[Bug 801988] Re: [Acer W500] multitouch doesn't work
There are multiple things going on in this bug report. Sadly, I've been mixing them up and confusing people. Let me list the issues: 1. In Precise, the Acer W500 touchscreen works, but gestures would hang the X server. This is the original bug report. It should be fixed now with the latest xorg-server updates. 2. In comment #13, isi cannot get multitouch working with his Dell ST220T hardware. This is a separate issue. It can be tracked in a separate bug #736752. When I last came to this bug, I thought it was for enabling this hardware, and thus I moved the status to triaged and wish list importance. That was incorrect. Since the second issue is handled elsewhere and the first issue should be fixed, I am closing this bug as fix released. Please reopen only if you can reproduce the issue noted in the original bug report in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. ** Changed in: utouch (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged = Fix Released ** Changed in: utouch (Ubuntu) Importance: Wishlist = High -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/801988 Title: [Acer W500] multitouch doesn't work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/utouch/+bug/801988/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 801988] Re: [Acer W500] multitouch doesn't work
On 2012-03-12 Chase Douglas changed this bug's importance from Undecided to High. On 2012-03-13 he set it from High to Critical, and then he said he was going to revert this change because it had been a mistake. But instead of setting it back to High he set it to Wishlist (that's some difference, isn't it?). How can this blocker be just Wishlist? [Bug 801988] Re: [Acer W500] multitouch doesn't work
Hi Leo, Sorry for the confusion my bug status changes have caused. However, the uTouch project does not do hardware enablement anymore. We focus on making a multitouch software stack that works with all devices with working drivers. As such, this bug is for a wished for fix. It isn't a regression. Soon, I plan to transition most hardware bugs to the linux Ubuntu package where they really should be targetted. However, this is not a signal that anyone on the uTouch team or elsewhere will be working on the bugs. We basically need more people who are willing and able to contribute support for all the various hardware that is out there. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/801988 Title: [Acer W500] multitouch doesn't work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/utouch/+bug/801988/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 801988] Re: [Acer W500] multitouch doesn't work
No change for me on Dell st220t. The device still doesn't work without patch, And with the patch under Unity Precise, i still : - can't touch-click on windows title bar (so can't move windows with touch), - loose any clic (mouse and touch) as soon as i do a drag or flick (so i must restart lightdm in tty1).

[Bug 801988] Re: [Acer W500] multitouch doesn't work
I tried the mainline kernel on Oneiric but it didn't make the device show up in geisview. Also in Oneiric X started hanging when I tried to make gestures, seemed like some kind of input/keyboard grab. i can still switch to text vc and back, and kill the session with the SAK. I now upgraded to Precise beta. This time geisview shows the device but the hang bug is the same. I get some stuff in Xorg.0.log, here's the part that comes when the bug occurs. I'm also attaching the entire Xorg.0.log file for the session. [ 822.377] eGalax Inc. USB TouchController: not enough space for touch events (max 1 touchpoints). Dropping this event. [Bug 801988] Re: [Acer W500] multitouch doesn't work
There are a couple of commits in the upstream 3.0.18 kernel which might fix this. From the changelog: commit a92035b63540e2d47326540dc38625283143b770 Author: Marek Vasut Date: Wed Nov 23 10:54:32 2011 +0100 HID: multitouch: Add egalax ID for Acer Iconia W500 commit bb9ff21072043634f147c05ac65dbf8185d4af6d upstream. This patch adds USB ID for the touchpanel in Acer Iconia W500. The panel supports up to five fingers, therefore the need for a new addition of panel types. This is just a renaming of USB_DEVICE_ID_DWAV_EGALAX_MULTITOUCH{N} to USB_DEVICE_ID_DWAV_EGALAX_MULTITOUCH_{PID} to handle more eGalax devices. In addition to the 3.2.x kernel (which I'm assuming contains these patches) it has xserver 1.11 with all of the new X Input 2.2 framework backported from the upcoming xserver 1.12.
