Hi Omer, thanks for your response; however, since I posted this bug my Unity version has crashed and will only boot into a 'busy-box' screen telling me I have cpu panic. Thanks for that. Both versions give "Capabilities : " ; "Kernel driver in use: radeon" ; " Kernel modules: radeon". However, when I upgraded Karmic to V11.04 via the web I was told that my hardware did not support Unity and gave me Gnome desktop. How come one version of Natty lets me run Unity where- as the upgraded version wont and both disks on the same pc? Should be able to find out the same from "lspci -v", under the VGA section see "kernel driver in use" and "kernel modules". Running 'lspci' gives me , among other things, 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc R520 [Radeon X1800]; but when I run 'lsmod | grep video' all I get is the prompt. This doesn't sound much like a Firefox bug, I have changed to Unity which I suspect is closer to the mark. As to why it might work on one release and not another, I suspect it is down to the graphics driver that you had running in each. In the fresh install perhaps you ticked the option for installing third party drivers, which probably brought in the proprietary driver for your card, and therefore worked. On your existing install you may be using an open source driver, which may not fully support 3D and thus might not work. You could provide details of your hardware, by running Terminal and typing "lspci" and reading off the VGA entry. Then can determine what driver module you have loaded by typing "lsmod | grep video".
