[Bug 856711] Re: 11.10 - Suspend fails on Asus 1215B

2013-01-28 Thread Sami Mäkinen
Christopher, why are you asking to file a new bug when my testing is
relevant to the bug discussed above please? I would think having
duplicates would make it more difficult to manage fixes?

BTW I noticed that I do not have the latest BIOS after all, so I will
update it and re-test in 12.04 with a few kernels including the raring
one. Will test with a full raring live environment as soon as I figure
out the easiest way to do that without replacing my working 12.04
installation or opening the computer.

Updated to that BIOS a long time ago, with no noticeable change from a

Short-term testing isn't of much value given the nature of the problem,
but I'll see what I can do about the Raring testing.

[Bug 856711] Re: 11.10 - Suspend fails on Asus 1215B

2012-12-21 Thread Ben
I built kernel 3.6.9 using the attached .config on December 8th and
suspend/resume has consistently worked for me ever since. That said, I
have noticed some X related issues that seem to be related to dual
monitors. If I have been using a 2nd monitor (plugged in via HDML -
haven't tried with VGA) and suspend, when I unsuspend without a second
monitor attached the display is unresponsive and I have to restart X or
plug in a second monitor to get X working again. The work around is to
use the Monitors application to disable the second monitor before
suspending the laptop.

Note - I hadn't tried any kernels between 3.5.4 and 3.6.9, it is
possible that the issue was fixed before 3.6.9.

The BIOS bug noted earlier in this report remains an issue, so if you
wish to reboot after using suspend/resume you have to remove the battery
and disconnect the power before rebooting or the system will hang after
the BIOS splash screen, this is an ASUS/BIOS issue, and not kernel/OS
related.

[Bug 856711] Re: 11.10 - Suspend fails on Asus 1215B

2012-08-10 Thread Ryan Fugger
I have to report that adding "radeon" to SUSPEND_MODULES doesn't
actually fix the problem completely -- I'm still getting crashes on
resume (requiring hard reset) about 20% of the time. My sense is the
longer it remains suspended, the more likely it is to crash. In my
initial testing, it worked fine, but I was only suspending for a few
seconds.

Christopher, please note that I have tried the "resume-trace" debugging
procedure, and it didn't work for me -- no magic number in dmesg output
after resuming. I suspect this is because you have to remove the
battery and power supply for the computer to restart properly after
crashing on resume, but it's certainly possible I did something wrong.

[Bug 856711] Re: 11.10 - Suspend fails on Asus 1215B

2012-08-07 Thread Ben
Sorry about the delay, I tried with kernel linux-
image-3.6.0-030600rc1-generic (the newest kernel available via
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds) today on ubuntu 11.10 and
the bug still exists, so the problem continues to exist upstream.

Suspend / resume failed on the second attempt. It appeared as though
the video failed to resume. I was using the radeon driver.

Sometimes the machine can appear to be properly suspended, however it
will become warm to the touch over time indicating that it is not
actually suspended. This only becomes apparent after 30+ minutes so it
isn't particularly easy to test for unless you're unusually patient.
The machine never resumes properly in such a case.

Regarding recent posts about unloading the radeon driver before
suspending, in the past I have tried that with both the radeon and fglrx
drivers as well as the brcmsmac or brcm80211 (depending on kernel
version) wifi drivers without any improvement.

Don't bother. I dont have a crypto disk set up and unfortunateliy I'm
experiencing the exact same problems. Tried with
/etc/pm/config.d/suspend_modules and /etc/pm/config.d/modules

It crashed pretty hard each time I tried to wake it up. Worse than
before. So there IS a change. But not the way I'd hoped.

Hoping for a solution.

[Bug 856711] Re: 11.10 - Suspend fails on Asus 1215B

2012-08-06 Thread Sami Mäkinen
Should the file be /etc/pm/config.d/suspend_modules or
/etc/pm/config.d/modules ?

Added /etc/pm/config.d/modules containing line SUSPEND_MODULES="wl
radeon" and rebooted for good measure, but still suspend failed on the
first attempt. Failed so hard I had to remove the battery to shut down -
I think usually just keeping the power button pressed for a few seconds
is enough.

Also tried adding in the full content from Choms' file, and copied also
to /etc/pm/config.d/suspend_modules, but still suspend is failing on the
first try.

I do have a crypt swap (and crypt root partition), so perhaps that's why
Ryan sees success but I don't, as Martin seems to be suggesting. If
everyone else is seeing success with adding radeon to the suspend
modules list, then I'll file a separate bug about suspending with a
crypto disk.

Unfortunately I don't have enough space to test without my crypt disk,
and digging the SSD out is a painful operation.

Re: [Bug 856711] Re: 11.10 - Suspend fails on Asus 1215B

2012-08-05 Thread Ryan Fugger
I can confirm that adding "radeon" to my SUSPEND_MODULES seems to fix
this bug on 12.04. I have tested 8 or so suspend/resume cycles with
no problems, where before I could only get zero or one suspend/resume
cycles to work before it failed.

My /etc/pm/config.d/suspend_modules reads:

SUSPEND_MODULES="wl radeon"

Previously, the value had been simply "wl", which still seems to be
required for things to work correctly.

Presumably adding "fglrx" instead of "radeon" would help those using
that driver.

Note that this did not work with uswsusp. It seems to work both with
C6 enabled and disabled in the BIOS.

Thanks Choms!

[Bug 856711] Re: 11.10 - Suspend fails on Asus 1215B

2012-08-01 Thread Martin G
Thanks for the update. I'd like to update this report with the following info,
which I noticed when I tried to do the workaround suggested by Choms in comment
#109:
(uswsusp did not succeed the configuration, as it could not find a valid swap
partition)

# cat /etc/fstab |grep swap

# swap was on /dev/sdb5 during installation
#UUID=2310195d-fb73-41b2-9322-f4510f4233ea noneswapsw
   0 0
/dev/mapper/cryptswap1 none swap sw 0 0

Then:
# ls /dev/mapper/cryptswap1
ls: cannot access /dev/mapper/cryptswap1: No such file or directory

Is this partition mapped during suspend initialization, or is it really missing
(sometimes)?

I will try to figure out how to create a swap non-encrypted partition or
file, and then test the suggestion in #109.

[Bug 856711] Re: 11.10 - Suspend fails on Asus 1215B

2012-08-01 Thread Choms
Bugfix, imho, for the suspend problem (at least for me is working on
fedora, and it may also work on ubuntu, please test it and send
feedback):

afaik it seems to be a problem with gaphics driver when suspending, to
fix it just add "fglrx" or "radeon" or whatever driver you are using to
SUSPEND_MODULES line on /etc/pm/config.d/modules

This is my pm modules file, note I've added both open and privative

2012-08-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Ben, regarding your comment
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/856711/comments/105 :
>" Do you want me to do this on 11.10 or or 12.04?"

As you mentioned in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/856711/comments/84
, wifi does not work in 12.04, though the suspend problem no longer
exists.

Hence, as you reported the problem initially in 11.10, and
presumptuously assuming this is the Ubuntu you use primarily due to
working wifi, I recommend performing the requested test, and all future
suspend testing regarding this report using 11.10.

Sorry, didn't realise you were waiting on me. I'm in transit at the
moment, but will have time to play with the latest upstream kernel later
this week and will repeat my testing for the Suspend / Resume from the
link you sent. Do you want me to do this on 11.10 or or 12.04? I have
access to both on the machine.

Christopher has contacted me and informed me that this bug was marked
private in an attempt to get people to stop commenting with information
not directly helpful to the developers working on this bug.

*** IF YOU HAVE THIS BUG, PLEASE OPEN A NEW BUG REPORT WITH THE COMMAND

COMMENTING HERE. ***

It would have helped immensely if Christopher had just posted this
information here himself. It would help even more if there were
warnings to this effect built into Launchpad when posting a comment.

I am making this bug public again, since making it private does not
achieve what it was intended to achieve, and does plenty of harm.

I'll volunteer to stop commenting and ask everyone else to do the same
if we can just consider this minor debacle resolved :)

2012-05-31 Thread Martin G
So, let's slashdot the situation, or somehow make Asus take action by
other means.

I think we have a strong case. In Norway, if we can confirm that this is
a BIOS bug, I can deliver this laptop back to the shop where I bought it
and get a refund. I will probably have to fight for a couple of months,
and write some letters, but I am willing to do that.

But, the best would be if Asus could provide a BIOS update.

Asus, if you hear me: I will get a refund and tell the world that your
hardware is faulty. I will update every bug report and forum post and
tell my story (there are quite a few).

(Yes, suspend/resume IS a core feature for a laptop)

2012-05-30 Thread UrkoM
Testing this with Ubuntu 12.04.
Suspend/resume seems to work fine, at least most of the time, with C6 mode on
or off, makes no difference.

But if you suspend even just once, then you can't reboot. Or shutdown and start
again.
Something in the hard drive controller (I think), because the hard drive seems
to be off or undetected when I turn the laptop on again.

To be able to boot again, I need to remove power and battery. Then it
works.

I am in a tight spot, because we are planning to deploy 200 of these
netbooks with Ubuntu for my school. And our students really need suspend
to move between classes without problems. Can anyone help?

2012-04-30 Thread pantas
Nothing new in Ubuntu 12.04 so far i think.
Tried, one time standby works correctly and second time failed.
I tried different kernel and distros, C6 state enabled, disabled, with no
succes.
End up in hibernating or just shutdown and reboot, as i have a SSD, so its fast
enough.
But i'd like to rather have full suspend posiibilities. Anyone had succes in
trying ?

[Bug 856711] Re: 11.10 - Suspend fails on Asus 1215B

2012-04-15 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Ben, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Could
you please provide the information following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspendHibernateResume ? As well,
if you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that
would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine
the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-
testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon
next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and
deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not
boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.

** Description changed:

Suspend fails 20-50% of the time on an Asus 1215B running the amd64
version of 11.10. When it fails the screen is usually off entirely,
though sometimes the backlight is still on.

  Kernel 3.0.0.11 AMD64
fglrx-updates (2:8.881-0ubuntu3) - also tried with radeon driver, however it
made no difference
I have also tried it with the proprietary wifi driver, again it made no
difference.

This is similar to my experience on 11.04, which I have attempted to
sort out using the directions here
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspendHibernateResume and by
adding suspect modules (brcmsmac, mac80211, radeon) to a
SUSPEND_MODULES="" line in /etc/pm/config.d/modules but the problem
  continues.

2012-03-29 Thread dreamerchant
With Enabled С6 and disabled Express Gate (0503 BIOS) E-450 1215b I
tried today 12.04 beta 2 live from sd-card. Suspend works much better,
but on 13th suspend I got the debug screen (screenshot in attachment)
and only was able to reboot with SysRq-REISUB. After that windows 7
refused to boot, the cursor was blinking. So I rebooted again, booted
ubuntu from sd-card again and rebooted normally. After that windows 7
booted normally too.

I had similar results.

When I used the latest kernel config from 12.04 (Precise) I ended up
without wifi (no brcmsmac), though it worked on 12.04. When I used a
.config that I'd created for 3.2.2 brcmsmac compiled fine, however
suspend/resume failed on the first attempt. I had C6 disabled in the
BIOS which may have been a contributing factor.

Is it worth investigating more deeply with this kernel, anything else
you did?

Finally got it working with vanilla kernel 3.2.12 :
 http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v3.0/linux-3.2.12.tar.bz2
And keeping config file from my current ubuntu kernel, this is how i did it :

1- download the tar.bz file of the kernel
2-untar it to /usr/src/
sudo -s
   cd /usr/src/
   tar -jxvf /where_you_saved_the_kernel_file/linux-3.2.12.tar.bz2
3- make a symlink to the newly created directory name linux and get into it
  ln -s linux-3.2.12 ./linux && cd linux

4- make sure you avec all the necessary tools installed
  apt-get install kernel-package libncurses5-dev fakeroot wget bzip2
build-essential
5- Use your current kernel config file
   cp /boot/config-`uname -r` ./.config && make menuconfig
6 - Compile your kernel and make the corresponding debs
make-kpkg clean && time fakeroot make-kpkg --initrd
--append-to-version=-custom.1 kernel_image kernel_headers

7- install your new kernel debs located in /usr/src:
  cd /usr/src
dpkg -i *.deb (make sure you havent other debs here for this command)

Hope this helps !!

[Bug 856711] Re: 11.10 - Suspend fails on Asus 1215B

2012-03-20 Thread CxOrg
The final addition to /etc/pm/config.d/modules

adds:

SLEEP_MODULE="uswsusp"
S2RAM_OPTS="-f -a 2"
SUSPEND_MODULES="button uhci_hcd"

I'm thinking having the most recent kernel you can find could help as
the -a parameter makes use of kernel features.

I'm using 3.6.1

as in http://mib.pianetali.../kernels/3.1.6/ and the latest ATI driver
http://www2.ati.com/...-x86.x86_64.run

Seems pretty solid now even with lid close for suspend.

You may have to check with the Ubuntu community for the integration of
pm-utils and s2ram. It seems acpid and pm-utils also manage the lid
close and special keys part.

I'll continue posting at:
http://mandrivausers.org/index.php?/topic/109317-asus-1215b-laptop-

Re: [Bug 856711] Re: 11.10 - Suspend fails on Asus 1215B

2012-03-20 Thread pantas
I tried to build a custom kernel in Ubuntu Oneiric, followed this tutorial
http://blog.avirtualhome.com/2010/05/05/how-to-compile-a-ubuntu-lucid-kernel/
changing it to amd64 and oneiric; it worked out and after that in Ubuntu
i had to install "uswsusp" per apt-get following
CxOrg's advise.

Trying out "sudo s2ram -f -a 2" it worked 1 time out of 10. Also
disabled C6 cpu state in BIOS
Again no success
In Lucid and oneiric to make s2ram permanent you have to link s2ram to
pm-suspend

sudo ln -s /usr/sbin/s2ram /usr/sbin/pm-suspend
doing backups of pm-suspend before that

Any other suggestions ?

Current contents of my /etc/pm/config.d/modules

SLEEP_MODULE="uswsusp"
S2RAM_OPTS="-f -a 2"

Now sleeping with Fn + Zz keys and waking with short press of power
button seems reliable. Sleep from "lid close" or waking from any other
key will/can fail.

Some attention to /var/log/pm-suspend.log may reveal what is happening
in these different cases.

Correction to the above

The contents of modules file should be: S2RAM_OPTS="-f -a 2"

Try as root (su) in a terminal

s2ram -f -a 2

This is the one which worked for me. You may have to search for s2ram
and install it if it is not part of your distribution.

2012-03-19 Thread Martin G
Thanks to CxOrg in comment #75 and #76: I also tried to build a custom
kernel, but it never worked for me - failed just as much as before.

Now I have also put in place the suggested file in comment #76, but that
also failed - the laptop didn't even enter suspend mode this time (only
one try so far).

If you find something that work reliably, please keep us posted - I am
very keen to find a solution for this...!

[Bug 856711] Re: 11.10 - Suspend fails on Asus 1215B

2012-03-19 Thread CxOrg
The above seemed to work fine until I rebooted. Strange?? so back to
some research on what the real fix is.

pm-utils seems to be the mechanism behind suspend/resume from both disk
and ram. This is fine tuned for different laptop chipsets and kernel
modules for video/wireless etc by s2ram . A comprehensive guide for Suse
linux explains all you need to know -
http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Suspend_to_RAM and here http://old-
en.opensuse.org/Pm-utils

Testing to find the best parameters to use with the Asus 1215B and ATI
video driver.

To make it work with the keyboard and power saving system I added this
file /etc/pm/config.d/modules containing a single config line:

S2RAM_OPTS="-f -a 3"

set the permissions to 755

So far this works OK.

I'll have to test against some other kernel and use suspend to ram daily
to see if it breaks?

Again lets hope this helps with Ubuntu/Mint installations which may not
be exactly the same.

[Bug 856711] Re: 11.10 - Suspend fails on Asus 1215B

2012-03-18 Thread CxOrg
Having followed the link in post 64 I decided to give re-building my
current kernel a go.

This should apply to Ubuntu as much as the Mandriva 2011 install I'm
using.

Without changing anything in the .config for the re-build resulted in a
kernel which does suspend/resume again and again. No failures yet WOW!
after all this time of trying other solutions!! Everything appears to
work as normal. Network etc ...

This may work for you.

I'm using the latest kernel I can find for Mandriva through MIB
http://mib.pianetalinux.org/MIB/2011.0/32/projects/kernels/3.1.6/

You should find an equivalent for Ubuntu and install the kernel source.

The build process should be something like:

# cd /usr/src/linux-
# make mrproper (this cleans out cruft from prior builds including .config)
# cp /boot/config- .config (we'll use Mandriva's config as the
starting point)
# vi Makefile (change the EXTRAVERSION variable to something unique)
# make menuconfig (select your desired customizations and save)
# make all (this preps and builds the kernel and modules)
# make modules_install (you must do this before before make install)
# make install (the bootloader will get updated automagically)

Again check for the specifics to rebuild for Ubuntu. The compile process
can take a couple of hours!

Good Luck!

[Bug 856711] Re: 11.10 - Suspend fails on Asus 1215B

2012-03-07 Thread Ben
I tried 12.04 beta last night and found no improvement over 11.10 or
11.04 from a suspend/resume perspective.

Reading the mint forum thread
(http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=72645&sid=249cfdc30aee6fa1a89c71bb437121e1&start=20#p443647)
that Martin G posted it seems that the "power issue" discussed was about
power consumption (heat, battery life), not suspend/resume, so
unfortunately I don't think it is relevant to this issue.

[Bug 856711] Re: 11.10 - Suspend fails on Asus 1215B

2012-03-07 Thread Sami Mäkinen
The problem sounds a lot like a concurrency issue, but at least booting with
SMP disabled did not help the problem in the slightest. Also it does not matter
whether you suspend with or without X, so I don't think it's the display driver
either.
As the problem seems to be present in all distros, I would hazard a guess that
the problem is in the Linux kernel itself, some device driver module. That this
one guy reports reliable sleeping with a custom kernel would support that guess.

I also tried without help the script for unbinding USB devices on sleep.

For me, I'm changing the slow HD to an SSD, and hope hibernating and
resuming will be much faster then. Of course still not as fast as
sleep/wakeup.

[Bug 856711] Re: 11.10 - Suspend fails on Asus 1215B

2012-03-06 Thread Martin G
I am thinking about returning my Asus Eee 1215B to the shop as it seems
this is a universal problem for all (?) distros.

Can someone suggest where the actual problem is? Is the BIOS flaky, or
is it the kernel?

This bug was filed September 2011, and it is really a show stopper for a
laptop.

I expect nothing from "customer care", so I'd rather search for a proper
description of what the real source of the problem is, and use that when
I have to contact the consumer council (since the shop obviously will
send the laptop to an Asus repair center, who will say there is nothing
wrong with the PC, and that Microsoft Windows works just fine, and blah
blah).

So, any suggestions on what the real source of the problem is, or how we
can probe for it?

-Martin

I'd like to correct an earlier post I made, unfortunately suspend/resume
does *not* work flawlessly in Mint 11. It seems to fail less frequently
than in 11.10 or 11.04, but it still fails often enough to be a major
irritant. Failure rates on Mint 12 seem to be identical to 11.10.

According to http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1375944 the same
problem is found on Asus P6T, and disabling Express Gate and changing
suspend mode to S3 in BIOS seems to have SOLVED the problem (on that
system).

I've checked the BIOS on my ASUS 1215B, but can't find any information
on Express Gate, nor suspend mode (S3).

I have, however, tried with C6 option both on and off, but have the
problem either way.

2012-01-06 Thread Martin G
I can confirm this bug on Asus 1215B with Ubuntu 11.10 oneiric.
I've tried kernel 3.0.0-14-generic and also kernel 3.1.0-030100-generic, both
x86_64.

The problem is the same as described here. For me, suspend to ram works
once or twice or even five times, but then it fails. One the failing
resume, the screen stays black, and it seems that the machine is
freezed. I have to remove the power cord and the battery to manage to
boot again.

Really annoying, and really a quite severe bug for a laptop.

I'd be happy to test any workarounds, or bleeding edge updates.

With C6 enabled the suspend/resume seems to fail almost every time for
me. Curiously it seems that the longer the system is suspended the less
likely it is to resume. With it disabled it fails 20-50% of the time.

I have tried to research what exactly C6 is, but haven't found any good
documentation on it. As a result I just leave it disabled. If anyone
else finds good documentation I would appreciate it if you could post a
link.

I will look into trying Mint 12 in the next week or so and will report
back on what I learn.

[Bug 856711] Re: 11.10 - Suspend fails on Asus 1215B

2011-11-15 Thread Joonas Koivunen
I read somewhere that disabling C6 state from BIOS might fix the
problem. (Perhaps linked from #54's link.)

After changing that setting the first suspend failed but I've now
completed over ten suspend/resume cycles. Everything (wlan, usb, fglrx)
seems to be working OK. I don't use the ethernet nic, so can't say for
it. eth0 iface is available in ifconfig output at least.

Could the C6 state somehow be the cause of this problem?

I've sent a Asus "customer technical question" or what ever it was
called in their "Support center" with a link to this bug. I doubt that
they care though.

Ben, thank you for your good analysis. Which wireless driver is used under mint

Is it the same as under ubuntu? Or is it a config or kernel thing?

[Bug 856711] Re: 11.10 - Suspend fails on Asus 1215B

2011-11-14 Thread Ben
With regards to getting to grub after a suspend/resume fail, this is
apparently a BIOS bug in the 1215B and, as you say, removing the battery
and AC is the only way to get past it. I've seen it mentioned elsewhere,
so this is not an isolated issue. I'm not 100% certain, but I believe I
have also run into the issue when a shutdown does not complete properly
(sometimes it hangs with the power still on but the OS otherwise
shutdown).

3.0.0-8 is the latest mainline kernel I have tried, it booted fine but
did not improve the suspend/resume situation so I haven't been using it.

Curiously I have just discovered that suspend/resume works flawlessly
under Mint 11, which is based off of Natty (11.04). I have not looked
into what the specific differences are, but I haven't been able to get
suspend/resume to work consistently under Natty so Mint must have fixed
something. Mint 12 is in the release candidate stage and I am tempted
to try it to see if suspend/resume works properly under it too. I have
also tried Squeeze (current Debian stable) and found that suspend/resume
did not work consistently under it either.

I have ruled out that the problem is the wireless driver (I'm using
brcm80211). It also seems to fail at a consistent rate with either the
radeon or fglrx drivers so I don't think either of them are involved.

[Bug 856711] Re: 11.10 - Suspend fails on Asus 1215B

2011-11-14 Thread Joonas Koivunen
Tried to do pm-tracing (RTC "logging") but it does not seem to work at
all. If I enable it and suspend, the device will, after a failed
suspension resume and subsequent hard poweroff (power btn for say 5
seconds), fail to reach grub boot. BIOS logo et al is shown as usual but
no grub. If I wait long enough the bios will complain that it cannot
boot from the selected device.

Fix to resume booting is to remove AC power, remove battery, re-insert
battery. Sometimes at this stage the device will NOT respond to any
power button presses but will always after I re-insert AC power.

At no point was RTC clock changed, so perhaps the laptop does not even
start to resume? Also nothing was ever logged to console while doing pm-
suspend from VT.

[Bug 856711] Re: 11.10 - Suspend fails on Asus 1215B

2011-11-14 Thread Joonas Koivunen
Testing with linux-
image-3.0.4-030004-generic_3.0.4-030004.201108301138_amd64.deb:

Build/install ok, hangs with splash kernel parameter, without splash or
quiet it'd seem that another module causes the same kind of "BUG: unable
to handle kernel paging request at ...".

Couldn't catch any udevd messages like with 3.2.0 but now the system has
completly crashed.

First "BUG: ..." was for a modprobe, unable to determine what module,
the second which ultimately crashed the whole system was from X process.
(from kern.log, attached)

Does anyone else have more luck testing the mainline kernels?

2011-11-14 Thread Joonas Koivunen
I tried the latest mainline kernel but no luck.

Unable to boot current/latest mainline kernel: linux-
image-3.2.0-999-generic_3.2.0-999.20130405_amd64.deb as fglrx fails
to load:

"BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at 8800dee834f0"
followed by stacktraces and module listings listing fglrx as "fglrx(P)".
It'd seem that udevd timeouts with the modprobe request and when it
tries to cancel it the whole system locks up.

Also the bcmwl dkms failed to build against this kernel.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? It
will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This
can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag
located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-
upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

2011-10-08 Thread Brad Figg
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.

However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during
any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all.
Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request
further testing. This is such a request.

We have noted that there is a newer version of the development kernel
than the one you last tested when this issue was found. Please test
again with the newer kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still
exists or not.

If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to
Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from
Incomplete to Fix Released.

Thank you for your help, we really do appreciate it.

After upgrading all packages to their current versions, including the
kernel to linux-image-3.0.0-12-generic 3.0.0-12.19, I retested
suspend/resume and found that it still fails to work properly.

I tested twice with the BIOS in it's default settings, with CPU
Configuration option C6 enabled, and in both cases the system suspended
properly, but failed to resume with the screen and backlight remaining
off.

I tested twice with the BIOS CPU Configuration option C6 disabled. On
the first cold boot I was able to suspend/resume successfully once,
however it failed on the second suspend with the backlight and cpu fan
remaining on. On the second cold boot I was able to suspend/resume
successfully 4 times, however on the 5th suspend attempt the backlight
and cpu fan remained on.

2011-09-23 Thread Seth Forshee
Please go ahead and run apport-collect when your machine is running
normally then, as the information will still be useful.

[Bug 856711] Re: 11.10 - Suspend fails on Asus 1215B

2011-09-22 Thread Ben
As the system is left in an unaccessible state when suspend fails I am
unable to run the apport-collect command. I have attempted logging to
the RTC but that seems to only produce useful results for resume issues,
not suspend.

I would be happy to troubleshoot / test this further.
