2008-05-19 Thread ferd
Hi Yuriy,

As it turned out (k)ubuntu 8.04 improved my wireless networking
experience by leaps and bounds. I took the time to test the
reliability of wireless connections on my computers under 8.04 for the
last two months and I'm now very happy with the performance. I almost
always get stable long lasting connections.

Thanks very much to you and the team(s) behind behind the recent
improvements.

I believe you can close this bug for 8.04.

Bye,
Ferdinan

2008-03-22 Thread Yuriy Kozlov
Could you test on Hardy and attach your /var/log/syslog when it fails to
connect?
Could you also test on Ubuntu/Gnome, or just with gnome's
network-manager-applet to see if this problem is specific to knetworkmanager?

2008-03-22 Thread ferd
Hi Yuriy,

Thanks for the response. Yes, indeed, I do still have this problem.
I've never been able to connect to my wireless router(s) with my four
year old Toshiba Satellite 5200 Notebook. The notebook uses an Atheros
chipset based wireless card - I don't have access to my notebook at
the moment and can give you further details no later then next week.
I've tried two different routers, a US Robotics and a D-Link model -
I'll let you know about the specific models. Curiously, my office
notebook (a one year old Toshiba Satellite P100, which has a more
modern Atheros chip than the Satellite P5200) can connect and
maintain, although somewhat unrealiably, via WPA-PSK with my
router(s). Both notebooks and routers are configured with up-to-date
kubuntu OS/router firmware.

The Satellite P100 fairly regularly looses but can successfully
re-establish a wireless connection within a few seconds.

Please let me know if you need any further details.

Thanks,
Ferdinand

Do you still have this problem in gutsy or hardy with knetworkmanager
0.2 and network-manager 0.6.5 or 0.6.6?

I've used WPA+DHCP before and it didn't work with Feisty.
In Gutsy I no longer have this problem. I haven't tried a static IP, though.

2008-02-07 Thread Mauro Vale
Kdenetwork have a lot of problems.

Also if you try to configure WPA-PSK with a static IP, it is not
possible.

After you select Manual configuration it becomes impossible to configure
WPA, only WEP is allowed, and there is no way back.

If you use WPA + DHCP there is no problem

[Bug 86039] Re: knetworkmanager can't connect to dlink di-524 using wpa-psk

2007-04-16 Thread ferd
I have some additional info to my earlier post. I've tried it with the
router broadcasting the SSID (same as above but no hidden router ID).
Result: knetworkmanager detects the router and displays an entry under
"Wireless Networks"; clicking it brings up the log in menu and asks for
WPA Personal key - other key type option are disabled (greyed out).
After key entry progress unfortunately just hangs again at 28% until
some timeout occurs (I estimate after about two to five minutes).
Something goes wrong while a connection is trying to be established.

Seems I have the same problem with different hardware (Atheros wifi card
Toshiba Satellite 5200 notebook trying to connect to hidden WPA-PSK US
Robotics 8054 router - exact same router configuration works fine with
other OSs).

Sadly, I have never got it to work in over 18 months of patiently
awaiting a solution for (k)ubuntu.

Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions - thanks.

[Bug 86039] Re: knetworkmanager can't connect to dlink di-524 using wpa-psk

2007-04-06 Thread Sokraates
I just noticed some interesting details:

When I set my router to WPA Personal, knetworkmanager thinks it's WEP.

Using WPA-PSK, the "connect"-button will highlight after entering a few
characters. Usually it should only highlight after entering the correct
number of characters for the encryption. So maybe knetworkmanager does
not send the whole passwork, but just a part of it.

Same for me. It worked flawlessly in Dapper and Edgy but no longer in
Feisty. Changing the encryption on my router to WEP is the only
workaround I know.

Kubuntu Feisty Fawn, all updates till 03.04.2007.

2007-03-12 Thread Mark Manashirov
I'm having a similar problem on Feisty with a Compaq X1000 (ipw2100) and
a DLink AP (DI-614+). I made a post about it on the Forums http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=376055";>here
describing all the details. Basically it has no trouble associating with
the router but it times out during authentication (GROUP_HANDSHAKE).
WEP works.
