Ok, that's valuable information. If the internal mic says Conexant, it's definitely on the internal sound card. But if that is, it surprises me that the models tried above do not work. Thanks David, you mentioning my BIOS forgetting to mark the internal mic gave me an idea. Upon further research, people with Windows 7 have also been experiencing this bug also with the default install; I reinstalled Windows 7 and used the default sound card drivers instead of the official Conexant drivers and that's why I think my mic worked in Windows 7. If you have 'Fast Boot' enabled in the BIOS Ubuntu will not recognize the microphone. Hi, The problem here is that according to BIOS, you don't have an internal mic on your internal sound card. It might be that the microphone is connected to the webcam in this case, looking at the way things are presented here: http://us.toshiba.com/computers/laptops/satellite/L740/L745D-S4220RD/ that might be the case here. If so, trying different models will not help. Could you attach the output of lsusb -v to help us determine that? If it is, there's not much sign of it the lsusb -v output either. Maybe it's using some proprietary protocol for the audio stuff. Either way, it seems non-trivial to resolve the problem. If you dual-boot windows, you might be able to figure out that way whether the internal mic is connected to the built-in sound card or the webcam, but even if you do, I'm not sure how to proceed in supporting this device, especially not if it's webcam connected.
