It's fixed in linux-image-2.6.20-16.28 :-) Metapackage linux-image- generic depended on older linux-image-2.6.20-15 (with which it didn't work) so it didn't get updated automagically (and i didn't notice the new version until a few minutes ago). -- [Feisty] Sound card (HDA) no more detected after switching from -8 to -9 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/88400 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 88400] Re: [Feisty] Sound card (HDA) no more detected after switching from -8 to -9
The top of this launchpad page states that a fix for this has been released. Has it made it into the repository? I lost sound on my M Audio Delta 1010 when I upgraded from Edgy to Feisty a few days ago. I am fully up to date as far as I know and I am still not getting any sound. Using the System->SoundPreferences window shows that my Delta 1010 is recognized, When I set Sound Playback to Autodetect and press the test button. a "Testing click OK to finish" window comes up, but there is no sound. When I specify ALSA instead of Autodetect I get the followind message after pressing test: audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink: Could not open resource for writing. my user is included in the audio group. I've tried adding the line: options snd-hda-intel model=3stack to the end of the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base file as suggested above, but this was not effective. Is inclusion of the fix in the repository still pending? Is this issue addressed more fully in another thread? -- [Feisty] Sound card (HDA) no more detected after switching from -8 to -9 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/88400 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Enable feisty-updates in your /etc/apt/sources.list Once the fix makes it into that repository, your next update will include the fix. It's easiest to just wait now. [Bug 88400] Re: [Feisty] Sound card (HDA) no more detected after switching from -8 to -9
Nearly same problem as above, on a Samsung Q35 (with snd_hda_intel) Upgraded to feisty sat 7 of April 2007. (this give a -14). Sound "worked" very strangely : could see/hear films on various soft (vlc, mplayer) and hear flash audio. BUT if I try to touch to sound controler, sound shuts off one for all and quite cleanly (no crack or strange sounds). A simple # modprobe -r snd_hda_intel # modprobe snd_hda_intel could get the sound back. Other strange behavior : - moving the time cursor while seeing a video cuts the sound also.. - gnome mixer applet seems messed totally up with sliders, - gnome-sound-propertie test core dumps when sound is muted. I solved the problem by adding to the end of the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa- base : ... options snd-hda-intel model=3stack ... I tried with "auto" instead of "3stack", and this didn't solve my problem, and as far as I can tell, didn't change anything to my problems. -- [Feisty] Sound card (HDA) no more detected after switching from -8 to -9 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/88400 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 88400] Re: [Feisty] Sound card (HDA) no more detected after switching from -8 to -9
I am not sure if this is related, but many bugs were marked as duplicates of this one, so I am posting it here. My I82801DBICH4 does not work properly as well. More accurately, it works just fine on a fresh boot, however, after hibernate, or even soft-reboot (!) it breaks and no sound is produced. Following the guide at DebuggingSoundProblems, I generated all the files and tried to find differences. The only difference is different order of lines in lsmod and, of course, different dmesg. It is worth posting it here? Maybe fixed upstream: http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/ChangeLog-2.6.20.4 --- commit 0a67204c5d11aca00fafc3ebe95be9a72447f70c Author: Takashi Iwai <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Sun Mar 18 18:19:29 2007 -0400 hda-intel - Fix codec probe with ATI controllers [ALSA] hda-intel - Fix codec probe with ATI contorllers ATI controllers may have up to 4 codecs while ICH up to 3. Thus the earlier fix to change AZX_MAX_CODECS to 3 cause a regression on some devices that have the audio codec at bit#3. Now max codecs is defined according to the driver type, either 3 or 4. Currently 4 is set only to ATI chips. Other might need the same change, too. [Bug 88400] Re: [Feisty] Sound card (HDA) no more detected after switching from -8 to -9
Manually removing the snd_hda_intel module, then modprobing it with the model=3stack option returned my audio levels to normal. I think the addition of the new model entries in patch_realtek.c may have caused problems, at least on my system. Wish I had the expertise to perhaps provide a more permanent fix. (note, my sound card is a Realtek ALC861 on a Toshiba Satellite A105-S4384) Hopefully this helps the reporter as well. (I found information about the model= option here: http://alsa.opensrc.org/Hda -- [Feisty] Sound card (HDA) no more detected after switching from -8 to -9 https://launchpad.net/bugs/88400 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
