Can I mark this as confirmed again? I've provided the information
requested in comments #3 and #5.

[Bug 885464] Re: Windows randomly resize

2011-12-06 Thread Thucydides411
Here's a video of the bug on my computer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jf-QIcEINU

There are two videos I found on YouTube of what seem to be related issues.
First, a phantom orange box:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUVB33aIyv0&feature=related

And next, a jittering window:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jRzZmgInmU&feature=related

I would be very surprised if I'm the only one experiencing this window-
resizing bug. My hardware is not uncommon, and the bug is specific to
Unity running in Ubuntu 11.10. I've been using Gnome 3 with Ubuntu 11.10
now for about 3 weeks, and haven't experienced this bug since.
Yesterday, I decided to give Unity a try again, and the bug popped up
within minutes.

The bug is specific to your system I believe. There have been no other
such bug report neither have I seen the issue, could you make video of
the problem?

[Bug 885464] Re: Windows randomly resize

2011-12-05 Thread Thucydides411
The steps to reproduce the bug on my hardware are:

1. Start up computer, log in to Unity session.

2. Wait a random amount of time. Windows begin resizing. If one does not
touch the touchpad, the window will continue to switch between different
states indefinitely. Upon moving the mouse with the touchpad, the window
stops resizing.

This is not a hardware issue. It is a regression in Unity. This issue
does not occur in Gnome 3, nor in Ubuntu 11.04. In Windows, my machine
has no hardware-related issues. I included the orange-box issue, because
it seems to be related. Both issues appeared with the transition from
11.04 to 11.10 (though they are also present after a fresh install of
11.10), and both involve unexpected window behavior.

[Bug 885464] Re: Windows randomly resize

2011-12-02 Thread Omer Akram
the second issue that you reported is either bug 875557

I have updated the decription of this bug report to focus on one issue.
About problem 1 I believe it could be your hardware's fault as well as a
driver issue, my laptop touchpad does weird things where it would
automatically maximize the window and then unmaximize in the same
second. As Bilal said if you have a few steps to reproduce the issue
those will be helpful.

** Description changed:

Windows sometimes randomly resize themselves. Often, a maximized window
will go rapidly between maximized and unmaximized states - as much as a
few times per second. This happens both with windows that have focus and
windows that do not have focus. However, unfocused windows that randomly
resize themselves seem to take focus away from the current window.
- Another problem which is perhaps related is that the orange window
- frame, which Unity uses when placing a window in a corner or against the
- edge of the screen, randomly appears and does not go away until one
- grabs a different window and drags it to the edge of the screen. A
- screen grab of this happening is attached.

[Bug 885464] Re: Windows randomly resize

2011-12-01 Thread Bilal Akhtar
I agree about the orange box part of the issue, but I'm not able to
reproduce the random resize issue. Could you outline the exact steps on
how to reproduce that?

Also, you should have filed two separate bugs for these issues, so
please retitle and change the description of this bug to suit the
"orange box" issue, and file a new bug for the random resizing, complete
with steps.

Marking incomplete until then.
