I had the same issue, it's NOT a bug. You just need to disable the "Browse mode in LiveTv". -Launch MythTV Frontend -> Go to Utilities/Setup -> Setup ->TV Settings -> Playback -> keep selecting Next until you get to "On-screen Display" page -> 2nd from the bottom is a check box for "Always use Browse mode when changing channels in LiveTv." UNCHECK this box -> next and finish. Now you can use the UP/DOWN arrow keys and it'll change the channels automatically. All your channel names begin with "Adding Channel...", just like mentioned in the post above, because of how they were added. -Launch MythTV Backend Setup -> select 5.Channel Editor -> Delete Channels (yes to delete ALL channels) -> ->select 3. Video Sources -> (I use DataDirect to retrieve tv listing) Retrieve Lineups -> Channel Frequency (I changed it from default to us-cable as I have cable, not sure if it's needed) -> -> select finish -> exit ->say YES to run "mythfilldatabase"! The text "Adding Char" actually is just a truncated "Adding Channel NNN" - If you go into your channel preferences and rename all the "Adding Channel 1" to "chan1" etc, you will see that what is actually happening is the status of "changing channel" is being displayed. Inside the box, where I assume other useful information would normally go, is "Unk" - I guess meaning there's something about the channel information that's unknown. I wish I knew what Raxius means when s/he says "configured all channels properly (Channel Name and Callsign)" - what is "properly?" If I go manually set the channel name/callsign, then at least I can tell the text isn't "Adding Char," but it doesn't help any (set them to "call1" "chan1" for 5 or so channels to see what I mean). You just see it cycling through your channels while you continue to watch the same channel you want to surf away from. Like everyone else, if I type "32 [enter]" it'll go to channel 32, I just can't cycle through channels like I'd wish. (That's especially annoying because, eg, you might not have channels 36-38, but you don't know that until you type 36[enter] and nothing happens). This is certainly a MythTV-specific bug, and not an Ubuntu bug, but Google doesn't turn up any other forums where people are talking about this bug. I am having a similar issue. I can successfully change channels, however this seems to be a display issue. The program information when I'm changing the channel correctly shows the show information, but the channel number is not displayed, rather the "Adding Char" text appears where I think the channel number should be shown. This is a new mythtv .20 build on Gentoo with a kernel of 2.6.19-gentoor5. I think this is the real bug, not the issue of not changing until hitting enter.
