For some reason you have no cups backends activated. Note that package updating keeps the current backend configuration, so you need to activate the backends manually. Pascal, That did the trick detected and test page printed. Many thanks to all of you! Is ther something about one of the upgrades that could have removed the USB back-end - it's not something that I knowingly did myself. See the other report (bug 92042) for more info about the problem. It was caused by an attempt to improve the configuration facility for the backend. Ooops - in too much of a rush. I have tried re-installing the printer - it is no longer detected. I deleted it because all jobs were marked stopped after about a minute, with no actual output. Sometimes deleting and reinstalling works not this time. Prior to this problem I had not printed anything for a week or so. The Device Manager ( from Control panel) shows Stylus CX6600 under USB Printer Interface.
