[Bug 937296] Re: Re-activating wireless freezes laptop in Oneiric
But, wait, I just installed Linux Mint 12 Lisa KDE 4.7.4. version and... it happens the same thing. The bug also affects this another distro and DE. ** Tags removed: needs-upstream-testing oneiric ** Tags added: kernel-unable-to-test-upstream -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/937296 Title: Re-activating wireless freezes laptop in Oneiric To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/937296/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 937296] Re: Re-activating wireless freezes laptop in Oneiric
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: The step-by-step way to reproduce the bug: 1) Once deactivated the wireless network, then re-activating it causes the laptop to freeze. And in the next start (after removing battery and power wire, then plugging it again) there are not longer references nor options regarding the wireless network, nor even there is the activate wireless network option, only there is the wired connection options at the nm-applet (as seen in the attached photo). 2) So, to re-activate the wireless network, I have to run the sudo rfkill unblock all command, and to restart the laptop (or, another option for this it's to restart the laptop in Windows Vista then activating the wireless connection via HP Wireless Assistant). 3) Thus, the wireless network options do appear again at nm-applet, but yet deactivated the wireless connection; Then clicking the activate wireless connection at nm-applet it works without freezing the machine this time. The whole above procedure it's reproducible as it happens all the times I deactivate then reactivate the wireless network at the nm-applet. [Bug 937296] Re: Re-activating wireless freezes laptop in Oneiric
I have tried to test the latest upstream kernel as advised, by downloading the .deb package with the linux-image-3.3.0-030300-generic_3.3.0-030300.201203182135_amd64, then installing it. After restarting the machine the new kernel hangs up before entering the desktop, a black screen it's all shown, so I was unable to test this upstream kernel; Also, it didn't work to startx it in recovery mode. I'm writing this with the standard kernel installed in Oneiric. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/937296 Title: Re-activating wireless freezes laptop in Oneiric To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/937296/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 937296] Re: Re-activating wireless freezes laptop in Oneiric
Anything broken with the rfkill killswitches has to be an issue with the kernel driver; reassigning to linux. There's probably an issue with the soft killswitch handling in that hp-wifi killswitch. ** Package changed: network-manager (Ubuntu) = linux (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/937296 Title: Re-activating wireless freezes laptop in Oneiric To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/937296/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 937296] Re: Re-activating wireless freezes laptop in Oneiric
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.3 kernel[1] (Not a kernel in the daily directory). Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag(Only that one tag, please leave the other tags). This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'. Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as Confirmed. Thanks in advance.
