[Bug 970128] Re: ieee80211 phy0: Atheros AR9280 Rev:2 fails to scan networks

2012-04-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Neil Wilson, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel
available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream
developers to examine the issue. Refer to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This
can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag
located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-
upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 970128] Re: ieee80211 phy0: Atheros AR9280 Rev:2 fails to scan networks

2012-04-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Neil Wilson, thank you for testing the mainline kernel. Could you please answer
the following questions:
+ Does your computer have this problem connecting to other/any WiFi devices or
just the Apple Airport?
+ Regarding your Bug Description:
Wireless kill switch is erratic and often disables the wireless completely.
Are you referring to a wireless hard switch on the computer that if you toggle
is buggy and often disables the wireless?

[Bug 970128] Re: ieee80211 phy0: Atheros AR9280 Rev:2 fails to scan networks

2012-04-01 Thread Neil Wilson
I've had constant problems with this wireless adapter on several APs.
With the Apple Airport it is intermittent whether it picks it up on the
scan and it never authenticates. With other APs (the previous netgear I
had) there was intermittent disconnects for no good reason, and it never
worked with Oneiric's kernel.

Are you referring to a wireless hard switch on the computer that if you
toggle is buggy and often disables the wireless?

Yep. The wireless on/off button on the keyboard. Switch it off and back
on and you rarely see any APs on the scan - almost like the driver has
given up the ghost.

[Bug 970128] Re: ieee80211 phy0: Atheros AR9280 Rev:2 fails to scan networks

2012-04-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Neil Wilson, ok. As this is two different issues, this bug will only focus on
the first one regarding:
I've had constant problems with this wireless adapter on several APs. With the
Apple Airport it is intermittent whether it picks it up on the scan and it
never authenticates. With other APs (the previous netgear I had) there was
intermittent disconnects for no good reason, and it never worked with Oneiric's
kernel.

Regarding the hard switch causing wireless to be disabled, your welcome to file
a new bug via the Terminal and subscribe me to it:
ubuntu-bug linux

As well, the issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it would be
nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the
software by following the instructions at
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/docs/lkml/reporting-bugs.html . If you
have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the
link), so we can add a bugwatch that will inform us about its status.
Thanks in advance.
