[Bug 982962] Re: MacBook Air cannot be hibernated

2012-04-18 Thread Seth Forshee
A little research shows that disabling hibernation by default was
intentional [1]. For instructions on how to re-enable it, see [2].

Since testing shows that there's no kernel issue with hibernation on
this machine, I'm marking this invalid.

[Bug 982962] Re: MacBook Air cannot be hibernated

2012-04-18 Thread Tommy_CZ
yes, pm-hibernate works OK.
And I must say that I know why this option is greyed (although it is not
probably an intention) - when you hibernate it, it is really difficult to wake
it up. The whole process of turning-on Ubuntu on Macbook with EFI is hard to
understand and it is easy to get into another kernel -> reboot.
I must say, that I newer got working EFI and I would really appreciate any help
in this way, mr. Forshee :)
So results - pm-hibernate works, the option is greyed out.

Fwiw, checking a couple of my machines they both have the Hibernate
option greyed out. One of them is a MacBook Air 4,1, and it hibernates
fine using pm-hibernate.

2012-04-17 Thread Seth Forshee
Please open a terminal and run 'sudo pm-hibernate' to test whether or
not hibernation actually works. If it does work, this is a UI problem
and not a kernel issue.

Please try this first, and if it works ignore the canned requests for
testing above.

[Bug 982962] Re: MacBook Air cannot be hibernated

2012-04-16 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Tommy_CZ, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
Could you please report the results following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspendHibernateResume ? As well,
if you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that
would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine
the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-
testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon
next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and
deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not
boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 982962] Re: MacBook Air cannot be hibernated

2012-04-16 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.4kernel[1] (Not a kernel in the daily directory). Once you've tested
the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag(Only
that one tag, please leave the other tags). This can be done by clicking
on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the
bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.
