[Bug 988892] Re: Xorg crash
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 973096 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973096 This bug is in it's own league. Has anyone personally seen a bug through to its fixed conclusion on this website? There are so many different Bug Report (#'s) for the same issue. I also have a problem with duel monitors and I am just not seeing any progress. So I am wondering if these bugs get fixed in an update ie one day update manager will be the ubuntu bug messiah and magically fix the bug? Is that the way it works? Or do I have to be more proactive and look for and apply the bug fixes? Seriously considering going back to 11.10 where things worked. Never - Never - never (since i have been using ubuntu from version 8) have I ever lost work or time because of a nasty bug like this one. Is there a way you can pay for a working ubuntu 12.04? I also have this issue. I tried downgrading the nVidia drivers to 295.33 but I still have the problem. I manage to reproduce it systematically when playing Flash videos in Chrome either from Youtube or Vimeo, it's guaranteed to crash with an 11 signal, then back to LightDM login screen. I'm running an x86_64 version of Ubuntu 12.04 with a Quadro FX 3700 graphics card. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/988892 Title: Xorg crash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/988892/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have not seen the crash since updating my NVidia drivers from 'post release updates' version to another version (forget the version) listed in the 'Add Additional Drivers' settings applet. Re: [Bug 988892] Re: Xorg crash
I worked around this entire issue by uninstalling all nvidia drivers, and installing the nouveau driver. To my surprise, it supports dual monitors on my Quadro FX 570. While the accellerated animations are performing fabulous, Chromium won't render WebGL 3D (tells me that my card doesn't support it), whereas Firefox gives me approximately 0.5 FPS, and looks to be on software rendering. :-) I am not using this box for any 3D activities whatsoever, so I am happy for the moment. If I can find some time. As far as I know, all versions listed there are all versions installed using the package manager. Could you - just for the sake of completeness - try to figure out what version you are currently using? (i.e. the one that allegedly solved your problem?) [Bug 988892] Re: Xorg crash
Pelle, I had the same problem with my Quadro FX 570, Xorg just could not stay alive for more that 40 minutes, while my home PC with 9600GT runs well. Then I uninstalled Nvidia drivers, installed Nouveau and there has not been any problem since. So for now I would call it an unofficial workaround.

[Bug 988892] Re: Xorg crash
I'm having trouble installing the nouveau driver on my X and because of that my X is running with the nvidia driver. We see the problem with firefox and flash.
