This machine (8049) is quite unstable. If one press power button in the BIOS setup menu or grub menu, it hangs. After vanessa removing RTC battery to reset BIOS setup, it works normally now. No more hangs when power button is pressed, and S3 does not cause system hangs... With 12.04, 201105-8049 hangs even if I do suspend in a text console after unloading ethernet/wifi/bluetooth drivers. LCD backlight is still on and does not respond to any SysRq magic. According to the record, it is certified with 11.10. So I installed 11.10 on it, but it still fails to suspend... Tested with a fresh installed 11.10 and an updated 11.10, both have same result as 12.04, LCD remains on and hangs. Also affects 11.04 with the 2.6.38-15 generic kernel. Did not affect 11.04 with the previous kernel.
