I tried using Miketan63 procedure and got as far as step 4. Step four failed. I got the following message: "Cannot Initialize Device", "unable to open any device formatting cannot continue" That is it. I do not have a floppy icon in my Places> computer:/// file. I have been trying to get my floppy drive to work through three different upgrades of Ubuntu (9.04, 8.10, & 8.04) without any success. I would really like to get it working. If anyone can help or want more info on my computer let me know. Any time I try to install Ubuntu (and also Debian) in a computer running an analog monitor I am confined to resolution of 800 x 600. There are NO options. Do the same with an LCD screen and no problems. Help please, I have several people waiting on this. The bug exists. Before 8.10, once I put a floppy in, I could double-click and open it.
