Good to know. Are you getting more than four contacts from that device?

I thought I was, but once I got over 4 fingers onthe screen, it was
really just touchpoints bouncing from one finger to the next.

That's the part of the ID for N-trig devices, yes? We can't add an
apport hook for this until we have a general solution for all devices
that we can use.

In addition to evtest, be prepared to collect some
samples from usbmon, so that we can confirm the thing is consistent with the
 older devices.

Rafi, is there a way to perform this and the task above in the general
case (so that apport hooks can push the info up to LP)?

In fact... I've just created a ticket for this.

Original context: bug #626769
Bug for this task: bug #635112

2010-09-09 Thread Rafi
bzr branch lp:~rafi-seas/+junk/ntrig_calib

Calibration should take less than 1 minute to run. If it doesn't improve the
first time, try once or twice more. If that still sucks, the windows ntrig
control panel has another calibration routine that actually gives a bit of
feedback (I don't really have a large enough sample space to decode the output
reliably). And if that says all is good and it still sucks, look for firmware
updates and complain to the manufacturers ;)

As Henrik says, some traces might be helpful. Considering this is a possibly
unknown model, please post the contents of the rdesc nodes

Rafi, this has been moved here:
 lp:~utouch-team/utouch/ntrig-calibration

Could you please do further development against the team branch, and not
one stored in your junk folder? Thanks ;-) I've merged your latest
there, btw. Also, this was announced as the official location for this
tool on the public mail list... don't want folks missing out an all your
latest and greatest changes!

Calibration should take less than 1 minute to run.

Fantastic. For those that want to do calibration in the future, I've put
together a small how-to on the wiki:
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Multitouch/Calibration/Ntrig

 If it doesn't
 improve the first time,

It did! All the dead spots are gone when I test with mtview!! It's like
having a whole new device. Thanks!

As Henrik says, some traces might be helpful.

Yup, provided that.

Also sorry if I missed it, but what firmware version is installed on

4.7.17.20.7

Thanks again!

Re: [Bug 626769] Re: Work around possible touch hardware issues in Lenovo T410s

2010-09-08 Thread Mohamed IKBEL Boulabiar
I watched the video. I understand more now.
it looks a small mapping problem in mtview rather than something in
the ntrig driver/fw !

The mtview supposes the window in fullscreen and doesn't detect if the
window is placed somewhere in the screen.

For unity, you have the bar on the Left which takes ~100px.
The topbar is also counted.
it's a small problem of mapping raw hw input to the output.

Duncan, try running the Gnome DE and you'll probably see that you'll
no more have the problem of unity pixels (misplaced pixels in right).

is this problem only found in the T410s ?
I tested on my hp tx2 and I haven't figured any problem or ghost contacts.

Why we lose ntrig as a mt driver just for one hardware failure case ?

I'll test several times to see if any problem occurs.
But I haven't noticed this problem before (I still have no problems
with the hp tx2).

Can you post some mtview screenshots to see how it exactly occurs on the
T410s ?
