Re: [Bug 774263] Re: Could not install Samba4 during upgrade to 11.04

2011-05-12 Thread Rob Woodward
Hi Alden,

Yes, I had seen your posts, and I had tried a couple of times within a day
or so of doing the upgrade, un-installing and re-installing to no avail,
but, after the last post from the help desk, I ran another update in
Synaptic, then used a command line install (Only because they wanted to see
the output), which worked OK, no errors, I'm guessing one of the updates had
fixed the issue! I haven't had chance to test it by actually connecting a
windows machine to the samba mount, but, it did install without error!!

Thanks,

Rob.

2011-05-10 Thread Alden Bushman
Hi Rob,
I am kind of new to Ubuntu. I put in an error report. I do not know if
all my comments saying I removed and reinstalled Samba4 using Synaptic
and now it works - has been added to the discussion. If you have
reinstalled Samba4, and tried to connect to MS-Windows drives, and were
successful, then that is the test I used to verify everything was working.

Hi,

Not sure if there has been any updates, but I had no error messages this
time, although I usually use Synaptic, I assume I would still have seen the
error?

For me, the repo was showing 3.x, not 4.x. I think that is the problem
especially if it comes from third-party repos as they get shut off during
dist-upgrades. Otherwise, the trunk is not being updated with 4.x

Re: [Bug 774263] Re: Could not install Samba4 during upgrade to 11.04

2011-05-09 Thread Alden Bushman
HI,

I used the synaptic package manager to completely uninstall Samba4 after
my upgrade. It had been installed with the previous version of Ubuntu.
I was even geting Samba4 errors when re-installing gEDA and gResistor,
which slhould not have happened. I refreshed the synaptic package
manager, and reinstalled Samba4. Now I can communicate with the OS that
must not be named on my Network, and gEDA and gResistor install o.k.
Perhaps there was something wrong with SAMBA4 on the Ubuntu 11.04 update
package, or some incompatibility with the older build.

Thanks for your comments.

Hi,

Yes my upgrade to 11.04 completed successfully, however, everything to do
with Samba4 returns "Exiting with error code 1". I tried re-installing, but
to no avail. Since then, I have used completely removed Samba4, and
installed Samba (2.5 or 6?) from the repo's instead, this seems to have
installed OK. Just need on of those machines running the OS that must not
be named to test it!

Yes it did. Seems the repository did not have all the Samba4 files and y.x
was conflicting. I uninstalled Samba comoletely and it works fine.

Now, to figure out what happened with Samba.
