I know.  So do all of the other people who are abandoning Ubuntu for 
alternatives like Linux Mint.

That assumes you can determine which one you want from all of the 
thumbnails.  Please actually try the use-case I described in my previous 
comment.  Open 25 gvim windows, all on different files and then try to 
pick a specific one from the "spread".

Thumbnails only works when you have a couple of large windows in which 
you can make out the contents of the thumbnail.  It does not work for a 
couple of dozen windows all with text in them -- whether that's editor 
windows or terminal windows.

So to be clear, the design of Unity is that when I want to unminimize a 
single window, all windows of the same application are unminimized?

If I have 25 gvim windows open but all minimized, I have to unminimize 
all 25 of them and then cycle through all 25 of them to find the one I 
am actually interested in?

How can this be considered "improvement" in any way?
