[Bug 285823] [NEW] Option not to auto-run wubi
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: usb-creator I have a usb drive that I always carry with me, and I want to give it two uses: -to use it as a live disk. -to carry personal data. But when I want to open some of my personal files from someone else's computer and put it my usb, wubi always tries to auto-run. This may be suspicious or even alarming to some people, having some program autorun when they just wanted to open a pdf file. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ktorrent Version 3.1.2 using ubuntu 8.10 beta ktorrent on startup uses about 60% cpu, which seems very high compared to the usage of the kde3 version on hardy. @Trond Thorbjørnsen - I was just about to recommend checking your X conf, because now, that kernel packages are patched, theres no reason for the static conf to not work. @Jose Hevia - the odd behaviour was caused by a missmatch between kernel and X driver versions. [Bug 285815] Re: Backlight keeps getting darker on MacBookPro
This is a continuation of the problem adressed with upstream commit 95bd4f1bf9a62f1551461841d64f6f1cdea6a92e, to this problem: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hal/+bug/226894 It is correct that MacBookPro3,1 and later are not listed to use the macbookpro addon. However, the light_sensor and keyboard_backlight devices are also driven by the same addon, and thus the newer macbooks should not be listed there either. Assuming that the gnome-power-manager still treats the listed but missing light sensor, the symptom described in this bug makes sense. The suggested fix is to remove MacBookPro3,1;MacBookPro3,2;MacBookPro4,1 completely from fdi/policy/10osvendor/10-macbookpro-utils.fdi, and instead implement keyboard_backlight and light_sensor through the mechanism outlined in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux- source-2.6.22/+bug/125918. -- Backlight keeps getting darker on MacBookPro https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/285815 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 272837] Re: Intrepid: in kile the Konsole tab does not work
It won't be shipped at any point. Konsole depends on too much from the KDE stack (in this case the KDE 3 stack) which makes deployment kind of difficult. For that matter, the only applications that are affected by the absence of it are KDevelop and Kile. We hope to have both ported to KDE 4 in time for Kubuntu 9.04, which will be a supported upgrade target from 8.04 (actually auto-updates from 8.04 to 8.10 are deactivated because of this kind of shortcomings). I have just upgraded from Hardy (where this worked perfectly) to Intrepid. On Intrepid, the whole thing builds but the libtool generated test binaries fail with error code 127. After much investigation I found that the main difference between Hardy and Intrepid was that Hardy uses libtool 1.5.26 and Intrepid uses libtool 2.2.4. [Bug 284845] Re: Kernel panic (2.6.24-21-generic) just after dist-upgrade wifi atheros AR5007EG
Hi Spike, Thanks for your answer. I read the thread above. It looks like the one in French I followed. However, I noticed that I didnt' install the very last version of the madwifi driver. The procedure I followed pointed me on a patched version of the driver: madwifi- hal-0.10.5.6-r3835-20080801.tar.gz. It worked well with the previous kernel version (2.6.24-19-generic), but not anymore with the new one (2.6.24-21-generic). I do not have clear evidence of the cause; it's just a feeling. Your comment gave me a hint: 1) uninstall my current madwifi dirver (madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6-r3835-20080801.tar.gz). 2) install the last one (dated on September 3rd: madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6-current.tar.gz). 3) test the new driver with both kernel versions. As this issue is quite sensitive for the stability of my laptop, I need to make a backup before the tests above. I will keep you informed. I use amd64 x2 and 2.6.27-2-generic Stefan Bader wrote on 2008-09-10: (permalink) @vnieto, noapictimer prevents the kernel from using the local apic timer. However this option is only used for 64bit kernels and only takes effect with multiple CPU (cores). So it is not a solution for the 32bit kernel also handled here. [Bug 285832] [NEW] There are two Shut Down buttons [intrepid]
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: human-icon-theme Problem: There are two Power buttons in Intrepid's System menu. One is gray, the other red - which looks like it should be more of a shutdown button rather than a logout button. (And this is what everyone is already used to.) [Bug 273708] Re: xorg hangs on startup (intel G45, compiz turned off)
desertoak, I just attached an URL to the upstream bug report I filed in the beginning of october. Since then Keith Packard have written a patch for this bug and Eric Anholt improved and merged that patch. The bug was in intel-agp.ko (a component inside the Linux kernel) and Eric's tree has been pulled into Daniel Airlie's DRM tree which is turn has been pulled by Linus Torvalds so it's very likely that this fix will be in the 2.6.28 kernel. That said, this still means that G45-based motherboards might not boot on intrepid final unless someone from the ubuntu kernel team decides to cherry pick this particular patch (see below). I'm not sure that's going to happen though because we're beyond the kernel freeze in the intrepid schedule (at least I've e-mailed them about it). I suspect that the only change you need to make G45 work nicely is this one: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/anholt/drm-intel.git;a=blobdiff;f=drivers/char/agp/intel-agp.c;h=f1fe7490131468b40c5817e232442026d9f8ff0d;hp=016fdf0623a4ce7b5f849efc8ab099a2c5026497;hb=2052746fc8397130c120f0194a89938b0b62b6cb;hpb=b34c87315b1a2822111fc8ef744ef504f9be2f85 Applying this change is indeed sufficient to fix my machine. -- xorg hangs on startup (intel G45, compiz turned off) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/273708 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 279065] Re: The live CD installer should detect the presence of OpenSolaris
Sorry for the multiple negatives. Actually I'm saying the exact opposite: I'm saying that I would expect a Unix-like OS to keep the hardware clock in UTC when no other operating systems are involved. At the risk of belabouring the point, Unix-like operating systems simply work better with the hardware clock in UTC; system administrators tend to find this out every six months when daylight savings time switches on or off, especially if some of their systems happen to go down during the relevant window. (Of course the use of NTP works around some of these issues.) It seems like OpenSolaris has made a serious mistake, but thanks for the information. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in synaptic. For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications have bug reporting functionality built in to them. It's been suggest that https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-meta/+bug/273318 is the same as this bug.
