[Bug 308410] Re: Latest Xorg removes nvidia driver ... conflicting xserver-xorg-video-4

2008-12-19 Thread Alex
I think this is the bug I have. I ran the most recent updates for Intrepid and
it disabled something with xconfig. This is also causing me to be forced into
low-graphics mode on restart.
When trying to run NVIDIA Xserver settings I get the following error:
You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X
configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X
server.
I have tried reinstalling everything and the forums do not have a solid
solution yet either.

I had to unplugged it and then boot the laptop. Switch off, re-plug, reboot and

I attach lspci -vvv with the card now present.

As I will get some spare time in the next days I will try to reproduce
this one.

Re: [Bug 272825] Re: writer crashes after loading certain files

2008-12-19 Thread Jim Fuqua

Chris, I am sorry that I did not reply sooner. I just noticed your
email today.

I am running OpenOffice 1.2.4.1-1Ubuntu2.1 Thu Nov 20 09:02:58 UTC 2008

It crashed when I loaded the attached file today. When restarted it
crashed on trying to recover the same file.

I think it has something to do with the links. When I save a file like
this as a doc file I have the same problem both in OO and Word. OO has
no easy way that I know of to disable all links and fields in a document
at once, but it can be done in Word with ^Shift F9. Once this is done
to a document the crashing does not occur.

The problem may be some type of copy protection. All of the documents
were copied and pasted from the web. All are court cases from WestLaw.
All are contain many links.

Jim Fuqua

[Bug 309816] [NEW] Include logrotate configuration

2008-12-19 Thread Ryan Lovett
Public bug reported:

The dovecot package does not include a logrotate configuration. If
dovecot is configured to log to file rather than syslog its log file
will become unmanageable. There is a recommended configuration here:

http://wiki.dovecot.org/Logging

# dovecot SIGUSR1: Re-opens the log files.
/var/log/dovecot*.log {
  missingok
  notifempty
  delaycompress
  sharedscripts
  postrotate
/bin/kill -USR1 `cat /var/run/dovecot/master.pid 2/dev/null` 2 /dev/null

Works, thanks.

1) Can't filter by boolean fields.
2) Filter, but looks for all the fields.
I want to show all the records that city match with PIRIAPOLIS, but if
other record have the word PIRIAPOLIS in other field (not city) is shown.
Sometimes don't want this, want to restrict the search to a specific field.
Attach a capture.

[Bug 308410] Re: Latest Xorg removes nvidia driver ... conflicting xserver-xorg-video-4

2008-12-19 Thread Noel J. Bergman
No, based on https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg, I don't believe
that it is the same. This bug should be specific to Jaunty.

I believe that you are encountering the bug that cause me to open Bug
268389. You have updated the kernel, the nvidia driver isn't
available/loading, and so we default to a low-res solution instead of
switching to the nv driver as a fallback. If I'm correct, would you
mind posting the info that Bryce asked for in the bug?

Please open a separate bug if you don't find one that matches your
issue.

[Bug 309822] [NEW] /var/lib/locales/supported.d/be file needs some changes

2008-12-19 Thread booxter
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: language-pack-be-base

As for now (Intrepid) this file contains the following strings:
be_BY.UTF-8 UTF-8
be...@latin UTF-8

Belarusian Latin community needs some change for this file because somehow this
(abbreviated) form of locale name - be...@latin is a cause for some problems
(especially in Python programs, see: http://bugs.python.org/issue2178). We
should have the following contents in it:
be_BY.UTF-8 UTF-8
be_by.ut...@latin UTF-8

Programs functionality problems occur, among others, in gnochm, gajim. I
wish this little fix will be released ASAP.

[Bug 308302] Re: Please merge eclipse 3.2.2-6.1 (universe) from Debian unstable

2008-12-19 Thread Manny Vindiola
eclipse 3.2.2-6.1 FTBFS due to compiler options in source-
tree/baseLocation/plugins/icu4j-build-temp/build.xml for eclipseCore and
eclipseWrapper.

The problem arises due to three compiler options:
compiler=javac1.3
source=1.3
target=1.1

Package build-depends on default-jdk-builddep which for jaunty is
openjdk-6-jdk. It is well documented that for jdk 1.5+ if target=1.1
is specified then source=1.3 must also be specified. According to the
ant manual when the specified compiler is 1.3 or less the source option
is ignored.
http://ant.apache.org/manual/CoreTasks/javac.html#compilervalues

This produces a situation where the target is specified, source is
ignored and so we compilation explodes with error [javac] javac: target
release 1.1 conflicts with default source release 1.5

Since javac1.3 is an alias for modern the FTBFS can be fixed by changing
compiler=javac1.3 to compiler=modern.
However this is where I run into a problem I don't know how to solve. The
source-tree directory is not produced until debian/rules uncompress is
issued. After this source-tree/baseLocation/plugins/icu4j-build-temp/build.xml
is compiled, and moved before any patches are applied so I can't use the patch
system and I can just modify the src.

There seem to be three options:
1) Untar, modify source for icu4j and retar
2) Make a small patch and apply it after untaring but before compiling
icu4j-temp
3) Your better suggestion?

is the GCal plug-in. Here's what I got:

[Bug 309836] [NEW] Forced to use acpi=off with 64 bits OS, not with 32bits

2008-12-19 Thread Cam
Public bug reported:

Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing difficulties with my laptop, a Samsung R710. I'm
currently using Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex, the amd64 OS. As far as I've
tested, I've had the same problem using the 64 bits versions of Fedora,
and an other linux OS I've forgotten. Let's describe it :

I've had no trouble using the 32 bit versions of Ubuntu. As my
computer was able to use a 64 bits OS (and as it has 4 GB of RAM), I
decided to switch to this version. But my laptop crashes a few seconds
after booting the kernel. If I erase quiet splash from my boot entry,
I don't even have the time to read the messages my screen displays
before my computer suddenly reboots.

Using the rescue page from doc.ubuntu-fr.org, I found that using
acpi=off was the only solution to this crash. But the real pity with
it is the management of energy. My laptop restarts as soon as i unplug
the AC/DC power adaptater.

So, I'd like to ask you. Will I always have to use this option to
use linux 64 ? It appears to be very strange, because everything was
allright with the 32 bits versions !

Thanks !

P.S. Here are some details about my hardware and system :

Linux cam-laptop 2.6.27-9-generic #1 SMP Thu Nov 20 22:15:32 UTC 2008 x86_64

[Bug 132256] Re: [Feature request] symlinks for hvmloader and qemu-dm

2008-12-19 Thread Todd Deshane
It probably is still a problem, since Ubuntu's upstream (Debian) doesn't
(I don't think) fix it either for some reason.

Manually making the symlinks or having the tools just be smart enough to
handle it is acceptable for most people anyway. That is why it was
considered a feature request and not a real bug.

[Bug 309830] [NEW] Firefox is looping opening tabs when trying to open .wml file

2008-12-19 Thread Ronald Portier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

I am testing an extremely simple wml file from Firefox. The source is:

?xml version=1.0?
!DOCTYPE wml PUBLIC -//WAPFORUM//DTD WML 1.3//EN
http://www.wapforum.org/DTD/wml13.dtd;

wml
  card id=card1 title=WML Tutorial
pHello World/p
  /card

  card id=card2 title=WML Tutorial
pWelcome to the world of WML/p
/card
/wml

I get I dialog box asking wether I want to store or open the file. I say
open with firefox and then it starts to open a new tab, opens
immediately another tab and so on. I can only stop this by logging of
(trying to kill firefox from the command line is interrupted by Firefox
stealing the focus from my terminal window).

I know wml is meant to be used from my phone. Just wanted to see wether
the page existed.

Ronald

[Bug 309838] [NEW] i965 Compiz low performance-flickering in jaunty

2008-12-19 Thread stetzen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Compiz used to work fine in Intrepid, but after upgrade to jaunty some
effects (for example, zoom animation for minimize/restore or fade
animation for open/close) become extremely slow (1 or 2 fps) and buggy
(i'm able to see a half-restored window, filled with random lines). The
change in performance cannot be observed with a benchmark plugin,
because the plugin slows down/freezes together with minimizing window.

[Bug 291606] Re: apt-cacher broken in intrepid

2008-12-19 Thread Brian Murray
Looking at the attachments in this bug report, I noticed that
regexp.patch was not flagged as a patch. A patch contains changes to
an Ubuntu package that will resolve a bug and this attachment is one!
Subsequently, I've checked the patch flag for it. In the future when
submitting patches please use the patch checkbox as there are some
Launchpad searches that use this feature. Thanks for your contribution
Mary Gardiner!

[Bug 118522] Re: Word wrap is too commonly changed to be in preferences, should be a menu

2008-12-19 Thread Karl Ostmo
Thanks, Dawid. I tried to reproduce the bug you mention, but for me it
did preserve the wrap settings on my machine after saving.

The sequence of events I tried was:
1) Load a file with long lines. Text wrapping was disabled in my Preferences,
so the initial state was NOWRAP.
2) Pressed CTRL+R. Wrapping state was changed to WRAP.
3) Made a change to the file. Saved with CTRL+S. Wrapping state remained as
WRAP.
4) Pressed CTRL+R again. Wrapping state was changed back to NOWRAP.
5) Made another change to the file. Saved with CTRL+S. Wrapping state
remained as NOWRAP.

Is this not what happens on your machine? If not, maybe you can provide
more details.

I suspect that this issue has been duplicated as bug 190585.

If so, a number of us have seen the hard drive activity on Intrepid.

[Bug 265029] Re: no mouse/keyboard when using evdev and autologin in gdm

2008-12-19 Thread Albert Damen
Fabien, the error message in your X log (EE) config/hal: couldn't
initialise context: (null) ((null)) looks similar to bug 264256. It
seems gdm may be started before hal for you as well. That would also
explain why a gdm restart works fine.

Can you please check the sequence numbers of the symlinks Sxxgdm and Syyhal in
/etc/rc2.d?
If the sequence number for gdm is lower then for hal, can you try if correcting
the sequence numbers solves your problem? On my Jaunty system gdm uses S30gdm
and hal uses S24hal.
