2009-12-19 Thread Anton Danilchenko
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client

I use SVN repostitory folder in UBUNTU-ONE shared directory.

I use it at home and at work. But If I commit changes to my svn folder
on work, I see conflist folder on my home. And in last time I see

[Bug 498445] [NEW] Nautilus exits on folder rename

2009-12-19 Thread Peter Wolf
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Ubuntu 9.10

When I open a folder with a large number of items (eg pictures) and
straight away create a new folder;then try and rename it;when i press
Enter the Nautilus window just exits without renaming the new folder.I
expect the new folder to be renamed and Nautilus not to exit. This bug
happens very frequently and should be easily reproducible.

By the way the links in your Ubuntu guidelines should open a new tab as I tried
clicking on one to do a better report and my message disappeared so here I am
typing it again.

[Bug 498443] [NEW] kernel panic with high network traffic

2009-12-19 Thread etrombly
Public bug reported:

My media server locks and needs to be hard reset after high network
traffic, this is usually triggered by rtorrent or another machine
connected by sshfs. This was previously occuring on 9.04 with a wired
connection so I had downgraded to 8.10 and everything was fine. I
recently upgraded to 9.10 with a wireless connection (broadcom) hoping
this issue had gone away, but it is still occuring. I switched to a
terminal and ran rtorrent and was able to get a picture of the kernel
message, it is attached (sorry for the blurriness but it should still be
readable). May be related to bug

[Bug 498446] [NEW] Installing software from the Software Center

2009-12-19 Thread Ian Tyrrell
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: software-center

When installing new software using the software center, two copies of
the new package appear on the in progress screen. This is confusing as I
was not sure what extactly was happening. It also looks untidy.

It would seem that there is only one request and just the information on
the screen is duplicated. Annoying but not urgent.

[Bug 465054] Re: Do not require a password every time to mount internal disks

2009-12-19 Thread Doug McMahon
While it could be suggested that careful editing the appropriate line
/usr/share/polkit-1/actions/org.freedesktop.devicekit.disks.policy could
achieve the same result in karmic, the lucid 'fix' seems better and
cleaner .

Not to mention that injudicious editing of the files in actions can lead
to unintended results and shouldn't be encouraged

The patch for lucid ( creation of a file in
/var/lib/polkit-1/localauthority/10-vendor.d 0) seems to also work in
karmic, have done so here with the intended correct result and with no
apparent ill effects ( though could stand to be corrected by those who
know better if need be.

Re: [Bug 467976] Re: Ubuntone fails to resume update after temporary disruption of internet connection (ADSL)

2009-12-19 Thread Ernst
Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I just tested by pulling out the telephone jack
while Ubuntuone was updating a file, but it resumed automatically after I
reconnected the line. Not sure if there has been an update somewhere that
cured the problem, or whether the problem initially was related to that a
lot of files had to be updated, or to my unfamiliarity with Ubuntuone
(have had no such problems with Dropbox though). I then had to manually
set Ubuntuone to connect after a disruption in the connection. Ubuntuone
still doesn't automatically start with a connection on startup (Ubuntuone
is loaded on startup and connect on start is set to automatically) even
when there is a connection. I then just manually set Ubuntuone to connect
and after that it seems to be OK.

Cheers,

Ernst

[Bug 444449] Re: Firefox slow google reader

2009-12-19 Thread Pierre Poissinger
I don't think you can compare the 'slowness' of ff+reader under XP vs
the cpu hogging under 9.10...

Btw - ffox 3.5.4 was usable under 9.04 with reader... only under 9.10
it's started to CPU hog (not ff actually, Xorg) - I guess something is
'broken' or 'pretty sub optimal' there...

[Bug 461789] Re: HP Pavilion TX2690 - No thermal sensors detected

2009-12-19 Thread Pietro Battiston
OK, what I wrote above is partly false.

I had forgot that under Jaunty, to make sensors work I had run
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/HPdv5z#CPU%20Temperature .

However:
- the linked procedure stopped fixing the issue in Karmic (sensor don't work,
and if I get a dump of the DSDT table and decompile it I see it's still the
original - maybe something changed in update-initramfs)
- I'm quite certain that at least in Intrepid, the sensors did work (out of the
box). But I'm sure that at some time I updated the BIOS, so this may have some
influence on the whole thing.

Re: [Bug 371210] Re: After upgrade to version 9.04, Ubuntu uses only one processor.

2009-12-19 Thread Jaakko Manninen
I found a solution to this problem. Before, I needed to boot with options
noapic nolapic
which caused the machine to bring up one core only. Replacing the boot
options
as follows
noapic nolapic --> pci=assign-busses apicmaintimer idle=poll
reboot=cold,hard
fixed the problem on my machine. Since I got both cores running quite
recently
only, I think I will stay with the working configuration for a while before
upgrading to
the Ubuntu version 9.10

I can confirm that I still get this problem on 9.10. I have installed a
fresh system on new hardware (Acer Aspire 7530). But the camera is the
same (Canon PowerShot S5 IS).

[Bug 445829] Re: Text on "Games" menu is outside of window

2009-12-19 Thread Mike Teehan
There is definitely some sort of rendering bug in the netbook launcher.
After installing, the games menu was fine, but somewhere along the line
-- probably after installing a batch of games -- it became corrupted.

The problem manifests itself such: The first page or so renders
properly, but eventually a large vertical blank space separates the rows
and seems to push many of the bottom icons off the page. The last icons
before the void render properly, but if one is selected, the "selected
highlight" extends all the way down through the empty space. The icons
clip at the edge of the launcher window, but many items are past the end
of the list and inaccessible.

Screenshots are attached to demonstrate the rendering errors.

As these many issues of usb-creator and not just one bug, perhaps we
should go through all the issues and created individual bugs for each.

[Bug 370943] Re: left mouse button inactive after wakeup

2009-12-19 Thread Michel Biezunski
I have the same problem on 9.10 after upgrade to 2.6.31-16 on amd64. I
can't log out (Ctrl-Alt-Backspace doesn't work). The only thing I can do
is to reboot after opening a new console (Ctrl-Alt-F1) and logging in as
root. This happens after a certain duration. When the computer is idle
for 1 hour or so it's fine, it's only during the night after a certain
time of inactivity that the problem appears.

Hello there,
I have upgraded yesterday my Ubuntu from 9.04 to 9.10 and I got the same
problem. The gdm screen shows rectangles instead normal characters.
I executed the commands suggested by Eduard but they didn't solve the problem.

Any help is appreciated.

[Bug 493130] Re: Quickly prevents creating a project with a "-" in the name

Thanks a lot for you patch, this will be a real gain :)

However, even applying successfully to latest trunk (rev 380), there are still
some issues with your patch:

Can you please fix this (without your patch, the project creation is correct).
Also, if you can use bzr to propose a merge, it would be really great (if you
don't know how to do or find it annoying, don't bother too much with that).

Thanks a lot :)

Dear Ubuntu,

The problem is: The latest version of libc6-dbg is "2.9-4ubuntu6", and
it depends on libc6. But the latest version of libc on Synaptic is

[Bug 287719] Re: SCIM prevents "quick find" by just typing in nautilus

2009-12-19 Thread Damian Frick
I can confirm this problem is still persistent with scim on karmic
(9.10). However I found a "workaround" on the interrnets:
http://forum.soft32.com/linux2/Nautilus-find-type-ftopict57901.html

You have to use scim-immodule instead of scim and it works. To switch use:
im-switch -c
This however is not a completely satisfying solution as there seem to be
problems with scim-immodule and it's use is not recommended (or so I've read),
though I've had no problems so far.

Hello,

I can't give you a hint. I simply add a new bluetooth-device and the
mouse works fine (except the disconnects...).

Re: [Bug 246141] Re: no support for realtek rtl8187se

2009-12-19 Thread mf
i have a new driver from realtek. It is not perfect and the bug is still
present but it is not quite as serious as the stock kernel module.

In short i have less timeouts on the newer driver.

You can get it by emailing realtek support and they will email the source to
you, or i can post it somewhere for you

[Bug 498463] [NEW] Import path weirdness

2009-12-19 Thread Michael Kuhn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: python2.6

I have an application that uses commands.py as a module, that is, I do
"import commands" internally.

On karmic this imports the local module, on lucid it imports the built-
in Python module, even though sys.path contains my local module
directory as the first element.

I am not sure where this is coming from, because karmic and lucid seem to use
the same Python version:
karmic: Python 2.6.4 (r264:75706, Dec 7 2009, 18:43:55) [GCC 4.4.1] on linux2
lucid: Python 2.6.4 (r264:75706, Dec 8 2009, 12:03:07) [GCC 4.4.2] on linux2

[Bug 497149] Re: Packages using DKMS should make use of /usr/lib/dkms/common.postinst

2009-12-19 Thread Lazhur
Can you please add some information how that above mentioned problems
will be handled? I see them as an important blocker for that bug and
will fix it after above mentioned problems are solved.

I see the idea behind it as an important benefit, but don't think that
the template mentioned in the bug report is the way to go (also with
some changes I saw Tuesday in the git repository). It is ok for me to
call `dpkg --print-architecture` and send that information to the dkms-
postinst script, but I don't feel comfortable by adding that
architecture mapping code . It should be quite easy and more future safe
to add it to the dkms-postinst script.

Issue is still present in 9.10. Even with backports turned on.
Basically what I think the problem is, is that Ubuntu is not properly
using the Wifi. Like it is not recognizing the inputs for the antenna
or for some form of booster. signal is 50% less on Ubuntu thant
windows.

[Bug 482255] Re: tuxonice userui is not working

2009-12-19 Thread SkullBurner
Now I have figured out how to apply the debdiff and here is my report:

In my karmic installation of pm-utils there is no 98-smart-kernel-video
file in /etc/pm/sleep.d. There are only two files: 10_grub-common and
10_unattended-upgrades-hibernate and a symlink named action_wpa. I have
downloaded pm-utils-1.2.5.zip from the pm-utils git repository and
copied all the files from the archives pm/sleep.d directory in my
/etc/pm/sleep.d directory and applied your patch for 98-smart-kernel-
video.

After that I have applied the debdiff and I have made new tuxonice-
userui package and installed it.

Now tuxonice-useui is showing but sometimes it is almost completely
faded out so that I can't see almost anything, only if I bring my LCD
screen in the distance of about 2 cm to my eyes I can see that status is
reported. Could it be somehow changed so that usplash screen remains in
full saturated white color when tuxonice is performing hibernate and
restore?

Thank you Whoopie!

[Bug 246141] Re: no support for realtek rtl8187se

2009-12-19 Thread mf
I contacted Realtek by email since nobody answered this bugtrack thread,
whats the point in encouraging people to post here if nobody answers?

Anyway, they were fairly helpful and emailed me this driver to compile
on Karmic, It works, i still get drop outs but it is not as bad as the
stock driver. This is a better driver. I have found that it helps a
lot to keep your connection alive by setting off a ping to somewhere
(your router) and leaving it pinging all the time as a sort of crude
keep alive.

i hope this helps
