Re: [Bug 482985] Re: openshot won't open in Ubuntu 9.10
Hi John, thanks für your mail. I did that what you mentioned. After clearing the system I installed openshot and went on these errors. a) python-mlt (the new one) is installating the mlt-things in directories called .../mlt/ These directory istn't set up in the installation by installing openshot or püython-mlt. I checked that by starting the interpreter and found the sys.path without those mlt-direcories: call python interpreter by typing python, then 'import sys' and sys.path should give you the information. To work around this you canset the PYTHONPATH Variable which is preloded the sys.path and is accessible from the shell. b) The Library ...so.2 is called, but on my system it is set up to so.3. So I hard linked it fromone toanother and every went fine. at least b) sould be fixed from this great guy Jonathan, because the libs will increase their numbers in future. For that I wrote it. Thanks for your mail, inbetween some others running on this, I found Question #95857 https://answers.launchpad.net/openshot/+question/95857on launchpad. Best Regards from Germany - CU in the net. Rupert 2010/1/15 John McDougall sysad...@mcdougallshome.net Andy, In comment #4 you give these instructions: --- Did you follow these instructions? 1) Remove OpenShot and MLT using Synaptic. 2) Then, look for the following files and delete them if you find them: - mlt.py - _mlt.so - mlt_wrap.o (they could be in /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/ or /usr/local, depending on your installation method) 3) Finally, re-install OpenShot and MLT using Synaptic (and the new experimental PPA) I did not find any of the above listed files, but in /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/ there was mlt.pyc . I deleted it then reinstalled and Openshot started up correctly! [Bug 497299] Re: upstart not starting init-scripts (event net-device-up IFACE=lo missing)
I have 32-bit ubuntu (I realise this isn't relevant, but I don't want people to get the idea it is a 64-bit problem). The killer on my own system was bind - when it didn't start all my custom services on the system were completely wrecked. I am surprised bind9 wasn't mentioned by anyone else... The system had been upgraded in place from jaunty to karmic and was apparently running well. After upgrading upstart, the system was wrecked at the next reboot. I was lucky that I could get to the machine to start the services manually - and VERY lucky someone had already posted this bug and the circumvention. I rolled back upstart and everything returned to normal. I locked the back-level version so it wouldn't get accidentally upgraded again! I've re-instated the (automatically deleted) /etc/network/interfaces loopback definition. Can anyone say whether it is safe for me to upgrade upstart to 0.6.3-11 again, or are there other problems with this version? -- upstart not starting init-scripts (event net-device-up IFACE=lo missing) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/497299 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 496765] Re: plymouth ask-for-password doesn't display --prompt argument
Tracked this down to the label.so module not being included by the initramfs hook. I've fixed this in bzr now, but the fix makes the initramfs 3MB larger due to all the support files it needs (libraries, a font, fontconfig). Scott, is the problem that led you to force-enable the framebuffer in debian/initramfs-tools/conf-hooks.d/plymouth still outstanding, and if so, can you give more info about what that problem was so we can reproduce it and get it resolved - and get meaningful boot chart data again for the kernel? ** Changed in: plymouth (Ubuntu Lucid) Status: Triaged = Fix Committed ** Changed in: plymouth (Ubuntu Lucid) Assignee: Alberto Milone (albertomilone) = Steve Langasek (vorlon) -- plymouth ask-for-password doesn't display --prompt argument https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/496765 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 508335] [NEW] Video doesn't move along with its window with Compiz enabled (ATI Radeon X200M)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: compiz Steps to reproduce: 1. Make sure Compiz is enabled 2. Open some video app(totem,miro,banshee..etc) and play something 3. [Bug 230670] Re: Can't mount DVD
If anyone is still reading this Thread, I just wanted to say that I had similar problems with Ubuntu 9.04 but the way I solved them was not by getting all frustrated and hateful, (although I did experience those emotions, it was not how I solved the problems :) When I could not find the answers I wanted in the Ubuntu Forums, I did broad searches using Yahoo and Google entering keywords of my problem in to the Search Engine. What I found was, there is a whole WORLD of people out there using Ubuntu and if you just look hard enough eventually you will find someone who has the answers for you. There are dozens and dozens of Web Designers who set up there OWN Ubuntu Forums on their Sites, and if I can't understand how one person explains it, I look around and I find the same problem with a different way of explaining the solution. Don't allow the Arrogant attitudes of some little teenage dweeb to turn you off of Ubuntu. There are thousands of people who put lots of time and effort into making sure Ubuntu is a Usable OS. And Sure there are lots of things they can do Better, and if you can think up one of those ideas submit them in the Wishlist Category, and become part of the solution, instead of just storming off to return to Windows. :) One of the ways I used to solve a Dvd no mount problem was I first went to SystemSoftwareand checked all the little Boxes for adding all the repositories (except for the source code) cause I didn't think I needed that. But Especially Universe and Multiverse, then I downloaded every application available for Video which gave me all the Codecs I needed, I also downloaded windows Codecs and Downloaded Realplayer for Linux which gives you a bunch of Codecs too. These Applications by default will download lots of stuff you need to read different Dvd formats. I deal with all kinds of Video Formats including Pal Vcds and Dvds. After downloading all the Video Applications I could find for Linux I had no problem playing anything in the Dvd, AND I also was able to Stream Movies using Amarok, and Gxine, and Realplayer. You can also try Downloading Google Chrome for Linux and Moonlight (Which also works in Mozzilla Firefox) to Stream Videos. More and more people are making Apps for Ubuntu because Ubuntu is more secure, more stable, and most of the software is still FREE for Ubuntu. So Ubuntu is NOT going down hill, it is getting Better and Better with each Release. I also wish they would automatically configure Mplayer and the SMplayer to play Encrypted Dvds straight from the first Boot of Ubuntu. I mean you can walk into any Store and Buy a Dvd Player that will play the Dvds, and that Player is not breaking the Law anymore than Ubuntu would be. Hire some Lawyer to work it out, but give us what we need to use Ubuntu a little smoother. That would be nice. :) Make the illegal countries UNCHECK the Default Settings if it is illegal for them to use. Look at Lime Wire! Talk about illegal! Everything Lime Wire DOES is illegal! But they are still up and running. AND THEY make a Linux Version of Their Player TOO! :) So I think Ubuntu should be automatically Configured to Play Encrypted Dvds right from the first installation. Someone needs to work on that for us- PLEASE? :) -- Can't mount DVD https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/230670 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 501456] Re: 31 seconds boot time on 10.04 alpha 1
The 10 second boot target applies to a specific model of reference hardware. There is no guarantee of any particular boot time for other hardware, so this is not a bug. And in any case, the work on boot performance for 10.04 is still ongoing. You shouldn't expect to see a 10 second boot at this point in the cycle, and a bug report saying that we're not there yet is not useful - the specific changes needed to get the boot time down are being tracked already via the blueprint and individual bug reports. ** Changed in: plymouth (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- 31 seconds boot time on 10.04 alpha 1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/501456 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 507037] Re: movie player crashed system
Hi, I was watching a lecture (2h30min) in VLC on speed 1.7. Yes, this may be a problem with VLC but the system as a whole stopped/froze and I could not do anything but restart the computer by holding in the power button. After trying again, it seems that if I switch from VLC (while it is playing) to my internet browser (chrome) and then back again, it has a hard time keeping up with the video. I believe this is why my system crashed...whether it has something to do with my O.S., my computer, or VLC...i do not know, only that it prompted me to send the report. This is really all the detail I can supply. Good luck in the future. [Bug 504776] Re: NFS will not mount. init: statd pre-start process terminated with status 1
In my case the error message in consistent (bug #504224) , and also have no similarities with escapes to the recovery shell etc. The (bug 470776), where mountall forgot a previous network ready state, and for mountall in Lucid this is fixed. Unfortunately, this can not be applied or be tested in Karmic. In (bug #431248) everything hangs during boot, but some similarities exists. One comment was that the problem is not related to mountall, but to portmap or nfs-common. I changed my fstab stanza to 'shire.gigahome.net:/home/bekr/nfs /home/bekr/nfs nfs defaults 0 0' Consistently I see similar results as above: mount.nfs : rpc.statd not running. etc... It was also suggested (bug #413248) that network-manager may be involved, and since I use static addresses on my LAN (many servers) I removed network-manager, but the error messages are the still the same. The comment #8, in this (bug #413248) report is very similar to what I see. Then patches for nfs-utils and portmap package are discussed. I also edited /etc/default/nfs-common and enabled: # Do you want to start the statd daemon? NEED_STATD=yes This did not change the overall behavior. Interestingly though, I can still mount the share manually once the boot process finished. Here is the installed versions in Karmic: dpkg -l mountall nfs-utils nfs-common portmap ii mountall 1.0 filesystem mounting tool ii nfs-common1:1.2.0-2ubuntu8 NFS support files common to client and server ii portmap 6.0-10ubuntu2RPC port mapper No packages found matching nfs-utils. apt-cache show nfs-utils W: Unable to locate package nfs-utils E: No packages found I'm puzzled about this nfs-utils package though.
