[Bug 633552] Re: In systray, battery state stay as estimating...

2010-09-24 Thread Karl Lattimer
I tried matching the heuristics up with this properly, there are
conditions where there's no time remaining and only a percentage, gnome
power manager is supposed to take data of the percentage over time and
estimate the time remaining, so in theory the time remaining would
eventually be updated, hence why it says estimating.

The problem seems to be that some laptops don't make the estimation easy
somewhere deeper inside of the code.

I'll try and improve the situation somehow

[Bug 188039] Re: [needs-packaging] OpenProj

2010-09-24 Thread neuromancer
Any news here?
I started my search here: http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/8757
and as reported on brainstorm, this kind of request are bug with
needs-packaging tag, so after a while I've found this bug report.

Just a few considerations:
* It's a good program that give to users a functional and stable alternative
and replacement to analogous proprietary software used on other OS (see bug #1).
* The license of OpenProj is CPAL 1.0
(http://www.opensource.org/licenses/cpal_1.0) a license approved by the OSI.
* On the OpenProj site (http://openproj.org/openproj) there is a clear
indication of their support for GNU/Linux OS and they have also a DEB package.
* Furthermore the main screenshot is of OpenProj running under Ubuntu and, as
cited above in this bug report, there is also a quote of Mark Shuttleworth.

So it's strange that this isn't yet in Ubuntu repository.
bye

[Bug 639734] Re: Pressing buttons on quanta hardware is very hard and imprecise

2010-09-24 Thread Henrik Rydberg
Thanks for testing. Please try out the attached driver to see if that
works out better. For data reporting, it would be great if you would
like to try out the new evemu project, which makes emulation of devices
(and hopefully both reporting and fixing) easier. You find the project
at https://launchpad.net/utouch-evemu/ and the code at bzr branch lp
:utouch-evemu. Thanks!

[Bug 587546] Re: Pulseaudio fails after several seconds

2010-09-24 Thread Stefan Bader
...hm cross-posting via email may or may not work. Manually adding and
hoping LP does not think otherwise later...

This is updating a set of bugs, so things said may or may not be exactly
matching the bug report itself.

There is a set of bug reports which, reading feedback from reporters, do not
seem to be fixed by the patches which were thought to fix them. All of these
patches are part of some upstream stable release, so if a real fix is found, it
should be submitted there as well.
Quickly reading over the reports they all seem to be positional quirk fixes in
ALSA. In one of the reports David had a quick look and had the suspicion that
the code path of activating the fix may not be hit at all.
So while not fixing the bug all patches are not causing things to regress. Due
to automatic processes, these bugs will get changed by a bot to fixed when the
proposed kernel moves to updates and the bugs need to be re-opened then.

David, Daniel, maybe you can have a look at the test feedback and find
out why the quirks have no effect?

Thanks,
Stefan

[Bug 583983] Re: Sound capture (microphone) works on LiveCD, but don't work after installation

Thanks,
Stefan

It only has a short, fixed amount of space, the space that gets taken up
by the window controls in maximised cases. It should put as much of the
app name there as it can, ellided at the end.

[Bug 644459] Re: update-notifier not reporting updates available

2010-09-24 Thread Michael Vogt
Thanks for your bugreport.

I think you are hit by the problem that the logic behind update-notifier is no
longer easy to understand.
The rules are basicly:
- autoopen on security updates (there are none explictely on maverick yet)
- auto-open after 7 days *if* no other updates happend since

You can run update-notifier --debug-updates to get debug output about
why its not comming up.

[Bug 525571] Re: No locking when updating files in ~/.bazaar

2010-09-24 Thread Vincent Ladeuil
Dear ~ubuntu-sru, we'd like to get this into lucid-updates.
Per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/MicroReleaseExceptions, we
have an exception to take all of 2.1.3, conditional on running the tests during
the package build and on running the tests in 2.1.3.
Some of those will fail in 2.1.3, but they should be fixed in 2.1.4.
For now I propose we build the package, then check there are only the expected
failures in the package.

[Bug 523484] Re: ureadahead requires /var on root filesystem

2010-09-24 Thread Paul Tansom
To combine those last two comments, instead of using:

rm -rf /var/lib/ureadahead

I went for:

mv /var/lib/ureadahead /.ureadahead

which took an existing debugfs directory with it. That was the only
content of the directory at the time. Other than that it all seems to be
working fine, although I've not been aware of any performance
improvement over what I was getting with the error and ending of
ureadahead (but that's not the issue!).

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

package cache, in a terminal ( Applications - Accessories - Terminal )

sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update

System Preferences Appearances is not a solution.
I like reading my mails at 18px, and I prefer other fonts sizes for other

I believe many users strongly disagree with this one font fits all

Highly misleading. It should be

   (b) all font settings should be left alone
(personally prefer this latter solution).

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: unity

I reported a problem with mutter, in
 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/638662, but i got a
crash of unity as well. So reporting with a gdb trace.

Just after today's update, I am no longer able to use the unity interface
to login. I only get a blank screen after logging in.
When I logged into gnome session and started mutter, no more X events were
handled neither the display got refreshed. I even tried to open some
programs from the console by typing xterm, firefox, gv etc. All these were
executed, but no change in the display screen. Only mouse pointer can be
 seen moving.

Later I tried to use gdb. But there is no crash of mutter whatever I tried.
When I started unity (unity -s or unity -p) from terminal after mutter was
started, I could see the mouse pointer change to I if I open a terminal or
back to default if I move it away. Then if i used the mouse to click at some
random places, it ends up in a crash of unity.

[Bug 582656] Re: Compiled _dirstate_helpers causes crash with specified file commands

2010-09-24 Thread Vincent Ladeuil
Dear ~ubuntu-sru, we'd like to get this into karmic-updates.
Per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/MicroReleaseExceptions, we
have an exception to take all of 2.0.6, conditional on running the tests during
the package build and on running the tests in 2.0.6.
Some of those will fail in 2.0.6, but they should be fixed in 2.0.7.
But unlike the 2.1 and 2.2 series, it may be harder to get there, we did some
changes in the test infrastructure that we considered too invasive to backport
so we may have to discuss whether it's better to rely on manual verification
than backporting a bigger patch (which may also require upgrading testtools
and/or subunit).
For now I propose we build the package, then check there are only the expected
failures in the package.

[Bug 646684] [NEW] oem-config should restart hostname depending services after setting a new hostname

2010-09-24 Thread Oliver Grawert
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

After oem-config changed the hostname to a new value processes like rsyslogd
and avahi-daemon still run with the old hostname assigned.
this results in non working avahi and in syslog writing entries with the old
hostname to the logfiles.
preferably these two (and probably other hostname dependant) services should be
restarted at the end of the oem-config run.

[Bug 646615] Re: installer crashed

2010-09-24 Thread Evan Dandrea
I'm afraid that's enough enough detail to fix this issue. Can you
please run the installer until it crashes, then run `apport-collect
646615`? This command will gather the logs from the installation
attempt and attach them to this bug report. If you run into difficulty,
please try to manually attach /var/log/syslog, /var/log/installer/debug,
and /var/log/partman from the live environment after an installation
attempt.

Thanks!

[Bug 646694] [NEW] autofs does not stop when the system is halted

2010-09-24 Thread Daniel Lezcano
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: autofs

Ubuntu version:

Description:Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Release:10.04

Package version:

Architecture: amd64
Source: autofs5
Version: 5.0.4-3.1ubuntu5
Depends: autofs5

When the system halts, a signal is delivered to all the processes but automount
does not receive it.

The sendsigs init script will build a list of processes to be omitted when
sending a signal.
The omitted processes are the one not killed by the upstart jobs and the ones
defined in the /lib/init/rw/sendsigs.omit.d/, /var/run/sendsigs.omit.

automount is not killed by upstart because the 'stop' action is not
defined in /etc/init/autofs.conf, then it will belongs to the omitted
processes list and therefore won't be killed.

In the normal use case, this is not visible because the shutdown will happens
normally.
In the container context (lxc.sourceforge.net), it appears there are some
remaining processes while the system is halted.

IMO, this is not the right behavior, the automount should receive a
SIGTERM at shutdown time, this signal is catched and the daemon will do
a proper shutdown. I was wondering if the autofs.conf script shouldn't
have:

stop on runlevel [!2345]

Then the upstart job will deliver the sigterm signal to the process, and the
automount will do its shutdown job normally.
