[Bug 785474] Re: system test program references Open Office in Ubuntu 11.04

2011-05-20 Thread Daniel Manrique
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

I have been unable to reproduce this bug. What I tried is:

1- Launch the System Testing application
2- On the Test Selection screen, I press Deselect all and then select User
Applications
3- When the tests start, I press Next to skip tests that aren't related to
*Office.
4- When I hit a test that says Now we will attempt to open... and refers to a
file type that can be handled by *Office (for instance, an .odt file) I press
Test

Upon doing this, my Natty system correctly launches LibreOffice and
displays the requested document.

In any case this doesn't look like a problem with System Testing, as all
it does is launch the user's preferred application by invoking

xdg-open /usr/share/checkbox/data/documents/OpenOffice_Text_Test.odt

So what I'd like to ask you is to run the command I posted above, from a
terminal window (press ctrl-alt-t to open a terminal window), and let us
know what happens. Ideally it should open the document with LibreOffice.

You can also check which application your system uses to open odt files
with this command:

xdg-mime query default application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.text

on Natty this should output

libreoffice-writer.desktop

If it outputs something different, please also let me know.

Thanks!

[Bug 745608] Re: [915GM] font corruption on Intel GMA900

I think so too.

It will probably turn out to be related to the 945G chip, or if I am
unlucky, to the revision of the chip.

But I have had these problems in the passed, and as the kernel got
updated they went away again . Soi I am sure it can be done.

[Bug 785833] [NEW] ubuntuone-syncdaemon crashes system, disables nautilus and makes banshee not see external music players

2011-05-20 Thread Jonas Obrist
Public bug reported:

When ubuntuone-syncdaemon is installed and active (autostart on boot,
syncs files) it has the following results for my system:

- The syncdaemon process uses 100% of CPU all the time, causing my laptop to
overheat after a while and thus crashes the system. It also renders the system
hardly usable since the CPU is used by the syncdaemon and does not have enough
resources for the apps I need (like unity...)
- Nautilus can not be started. Sometimes it does start after (literally) hours
but it's frozen and all I can do is force quit it. Starting Nautilus from
command line does not work either
- Banshee can not see external (USB) drives with music on them like my android
phone.

When completely uninstalling ubuntu one (there seems to be no way to
stop the syncdaemon), the system works perfect again.

Is there any alternative to uninstall ubuntuone? I would love to use it,
but not at the cost of rendering my system unsuable.

These problems only started to occur after the upgrade to 11.04, and on
previous versions ubuntu one worked flawlessly.

badhorse, ZaHACKieL and Daniel -- you mention using nVidia cards. I run

disappear after upgrading nVidia binary drivers to 270.41.06 using
ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates. Can you provide your Xorg.log after a crash
(/var/log/Xorg.0.log.old copied after logging in again), so that there
can be more certainty that you have the same bug as I did?

[Bug 785841] [NEW] Screen remains blank after waking up from screensaver

2011-05-20 Thread fstolze
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 11.04. Issue did not occur for 10.10 and earlier versions.

Occasionally, after waking up from screensaver, the screen remains
black. The mouse cursor is visible and can be moved around, it will even
change where a text input box might be, but the screen does not get
rendered. I can switch back and forth to text consoles, but can't seem
to get the GUI back without killing X.

Repeatedly happens for me on two machines:
- Dell Studio 1558
- HP Pavillion p6367c

Attached the apport file for the HP.

Removing of asus-laptop module gave me black screen with no backlight at
all. Loading it back does not change situation.

Amount of possible step for intel_backlight scares me:

[Bug 785848] [NEW] do-release-upgrade stalled on Setting up libgdu0 (2.32.1-0ubuntu4) on Maverick-Natty upgrade

2011-05-20 Thread Boris Dušek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-disk-utility

1. Install Maverick i386 desktop (happened 3 months ago)
2. Update it to latest software using apt-get update and apt-get
dist-upgrade. I did not restart to boot into the new kernel.
3. Run sudo do-release-upgrade over ssh to upgrade to Natty. Answer install
new version when promted what to do with the /etc/default/grub file

do-release-upgrade then ends up stalled on Setting up libgdu0
(2.32.1-0ubuntu4). In fact, it is then no longer possible to ping the
machine's IP. I can't report what is the status of the machine since
it's more than 200 km away.

I seem to not be the only one with exactly the same symptom:

[Bug 782075] Re: video crashing since upgrade to 11.04

2011-05-20 Thread Paul Low
Hi all,

Got fed up and reinstalled 11.04 Natty and guess what?... Yep, it kept
on crashing again. It didn't matter what application I used. Be it
VLC, Banshee, Totem whatever.

Got fed up with that so reinstalled 10.10 Maverick and guess what?...
Yep, working fine. I don't have the expertise to fix this problem so
I'm sticking with Maverick. Good luck folks.

Can you tell me which specific app this affected and whether it matches
the pattern I suggested (i.e. has it's own minimise button and doesn't
 use the default one)

[Bug 471512] Re: Slow cifs ubuntu 9.10

2011-05-20 Thread zzarko
I have two machines at home. The speed with cifs before the upgrade from
10.10 to 11.04 was ~8MB/s (100Mbit card on the older server machine).
After upgrading the server machine, the speed remained the same. But,
after upgrading client machine, the speed dropped to about 500KB/s,
which is unusabe. If I mount from Nautilus with gvfs, I get ~5MB/s.

[Bug 189329] Re: Undesirable focus while closing or minimizing

2011-05-20 Thread mannheim
The bug really does exist, at least in 10.04. The screencast shows what
is happening. The animation for focus in the compiz animation plugin
is set to Dodge to make the behavior more apparent. When the rear
window is closed using its close button, the front window Dodges and
the back window gets focus before closing.

[Bug 189329] Re: Undesirable focus while closing or minimizing

2011-05-20 Thread mannheim
By contrast, this second screencast shows how it really should behave.
This is the good behavior which you get when you close the rear window
using the contextual menu in the task bar. The rear window is not give
focus. Instead it quietly disappears, using the correct close
animation, while remaining behind the front window.

[Bug 769812] Re: X120e crashes randomly (wireless?)

2011-05-20 Thread John Johansen
Please note that there are multiple different crash bugs, not all of
them are going to be related to the wireless driver. I know of at least
one fix for crashes that has gone into the fglrx driver (if you are
running the proprietary ati driver) and some fixes to the fusion radeon
driver that went in late to the 2.6.39 kernel.

I am going to build a natty test kernel with the latest bug fixes for
rtl8192ce and the radeon driver and will post here when I get it done

[Bug 768524] Re: Kernel Panic on boot because of vt6656_stage driver

2011-05-20 Thread Herton R. Krzesinski
I was able to look into this more in detail today, and so far seems the
issue is simple, just a missing channel update information that causes a
bad array access in the driver.

I did a fix and uploaded a x86_64 package with it at:
http://people.canonical.com/~herton/lp768524/

Can you try it and see if the problem is solved? You you need to do a
natty install for this, install a stock natty, reproduce the problem,
and then install the .deb linux-image with dpkg -i, reboot, see if the
problem still happens, and report here your results.

[Bug 783109] Re: epdfview crashed with SIGSEGV in __strlen_sse42()

2011-05-20 Thread Marcel Stimberg
I'll link a branch with backported changes from rev 357 and rev 359,
additional the cosmetic patch from rev 336 was also necessary in order
for the other two patches to apply cleanly. The changes in rev 354 I
mentioned in my previous comment were already in the Ubuntu package
(ubuntu_poppler-0.15.patch).

The branch/patch is meant as an SRU for natty, the patches do apply to
oneiric as well (same epdfview and poppler version) but I can't build

[Bug 785852] [NEW] Menu reordering does not work

2011-05-20 Thread Juho Vuori
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: indicator-application

gtk_menu_reorder_child does nothing on menus managed by application
indicator. This is further demonstrated by the two attached C++
programs. Both create a window and a application indicator menu with two
items in it and reorder the items. The other attaches the menu to the
application indicator icon and the other to a widget on screen. In the
first case, the menu gets wrongly rendered in the original ordering. In
the second case, the menu gets properly rendered with the two items
reordered.

The programs compile on ubuntu 11.04 with some necessary development
packages installed:

g++ `pkg-config gtkmm-2.4 appindicator-0.1 --cflags --libs` -o bugtest
bugtest.cpp
g++ `pkg-config gtkmm-2.4 appindicator-0.1 --cflags --libs` -o bugtest2

[Bug 785752] Re: package perl 5.10.1-17ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: short read on buffer copy for uruchomiony dpkg-deb podczas ./usr/bin/s2p

2011-05-20 Thread Ubuntu QA's Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. If this does resolve your bug please set its status to
Invalid. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 785668] Re: bonding inside a bridge does not update ARP correctly when bridged net accessed from within a VM

2011-05-20 Thread Serge Hallyn
Actually, I may be wrong about this being a kernel issue.

Are you always able to ping the remote host from the kvm host, even when
you can't do so from the VM?

In addition to kvmhost's /etc/modprove.d/bonding.conf, can you also
please provide the configuration info for the KVM vm? (If a libvirt
host, then the network-related (or just all) xml info, or else the 'ps
-ef | grep kvm' output). Also the network configuration insid the KVM
VM. In particular, if the KVM VM has a bridge, that one would need to
have stp turned on, but I doubt you have that.

[Bug 768506] Re: CIFS VFS Server is slowing down shutdown

2011-05-20 Thread Mike Perrin
Ernst is correct; after further testing this turns out *not* to be a
wireless network issue for me. I am developing a background process that
mounts/unmounts shares as defined by users in a configuration file in
their home directory. My script interferes with umountcifs when user
logout occurs on shutdown or restart. If I have umountcifs installed and
I kill my script before shutting down the shutdown occurs normally. When
I tested with hardwire I either did not have my script running or it was
one of those lucky shots where the two second time delay in my infinite
loop occurred at just the right moment to allow umountcifs to do its
work. Now I just have to fix my code. My apologies for the red herring.

Ernst - Have you installed umountcifs to determine if it solves your
problem?

[Bug 306497] Re: gwibber uses a lot of memory

2011-05-20 Thread N.C. Weber
I've never noticed high memory use with Gwibber. My problem has been
with the high CPU usage. I have a dual core Atom N270 processor, and
Gwibber has one of the cores running constantly high ranging between 94%
and 107% (I didn't even know the graph could go over 100%). And this is
when the program is technically closed. I can't watch videos any more
because of the high CPU usage, and Thunderbird freezes periodically,
making reading mail a pain. In the end, I had to completely eliminate
Gwibber just to get some decent functionality back. I'm using Seesmic
Desktop (an Adobe AIR program) to check my feeds now, but I like the
convenience of Gwibber being connected into Ubuntu. I hope they can get
this sorted out.

[Bug 780932] Re: libreoffice printing ignores paper feeder setting

2011-05-20 Thread AZ
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: libreoffice

- When trying to print an A3 opendocument text file, I need the printer to
- switch to another paper feeder. Though setting the paper format to
- letter or anything supported by the default paper feeder or changing
- page orientation works fine, switching the paper feeder gets partly
- ignored, that is when I close and reopen the printer settings dialog it
- just disappeared and the printer uses the other paper feed but only
- prints A4 on A3.
+ My printer has different paper feeders and the appropiate one needs to be
selected for printing certain paper types.
+ Though, after selecting any non-default paper feeder, when reopening the
printer properties dialog (using file = print = settings ; ok ; settings),
the paper feeder setting is gone. Nevertheless, when not reopening the settings
dialog, the
+ last paper feeder setting is used for printing. The main issue arises, when
during this print (which uses the correct paper feeder), the wrong paper format
is selected which causes the print to be rendered invalid.
+ The invalid printing is rendered in the preview the same kind as it gets
printed, so I guess the paper format cannot be applied
+ due to libreoffice believing in the wrong paper feeder setting. (There are
PPD UIConstraints that exclude my paper format
+ and the default feeder to be combined.)

Meant to comment on this. I have had no issues whatsoever in a few
weeks' usage of 11.04 on the same system. All is well.

[Bug 776397] Re: GConf error: Failed to contact configuration server

2011-05-20 Thread PetaZeta
Same problem with my Natty 11.04 running on AMD64.
It does repeat itself every time I log in as a regular user.
Logging is OK, though, trying as the root user.

[Bug 785862] [NEW] GStreamer fails to play audio in DVB x-h264 stream

2011-05-20 Thread Peter Graversen
Public bug reported:

Having problems watching TV with totem/gnome-dvb-daemon: no sound on
Danish MPEG4 channels. MPEG2 channels are OK.

I isolated the problem to gstreamer that stops when decoding the audio stream:
GST_DEBUG=mpeg*:5 gst-launch-0.10 dvbbasebin inversion=AUTO bandwidth=8
frequency=71400 program-numbers=2030 ! decodebin name=decoder decoder. !
queue ! alsasink decoder. ! xvimagesink debug_audio.txt 21

Playing without audio works without problems:
GST_DEBUG=mpeg*:5 gst-launch-0.10 dvbbasebin inversion=AUTO bandwidth=8
frequency=71400 program-numbers=2030 ! decodebin name=decoder decoder. !
queue ! xvimagesink debug_no_audio.txt 21

Running the above commands work with and without audio on MPEG2
channels.

The output of the commands are attached. My debugging skills ends here.

[Bug 785599] Re: Buttons on information bar do not scale with font size

2011-05-20 Thread ngc2997
No problem, just take your time - this issue has been around for some
time, yet I chose to report it now as it still isn't fixed with Natty. I
was looking through bugs reported for gwibber, but couldn't find
anything on this particular issue; however, I might as well have missed
it. This is a rather cosmetic issue anyway. :)

[Bug 779753] Re: T400 laptop. Freezes or mouse stutters. Kworker process using too much CPU.

2011-05-20 Thread Wiggy
Jeffrey,

I see the exact same symptoms as yourself. With 2.6.39rc4 a few times it
froze completely, I waited about 3 minutes and then rebooted.

I'm unable to use Natty, it's too frustrating, I now have Maverick and
Natty installed on separate partitions, as stated earlier 2.6.34 is the
latest kernel that does not cause issues with Maverick.
