[Bug 781042] Re: Critically improved Dutch translation available upstream

[Bug 802026] [NEW] Booting results in flickering screen
Public bug reported: Brand New Alienware M17xR3 with Intel i915 IGP, and NVIDIA GT 460M video. New, Clean installation of Kubuntu 11.04. When booting up, and BEFORE Xorg starts, the video mode switches and the video on the screen flickers and switches rapidly between colors as it flickers. No text or graphics are visible on the screen after that, just the flickering. Disabling modeset for intel (kernel command line parameter i915.modeset=0) stops the flickering and I get to a desktop. When doing this, screen resolution is wrong and vgaswitcheroo is disabled, but at least the computer is functional. [Bug 802028] [NEW] Shift with Numeric Keypad works as in MS Windows implemented partially
Public bug reported: I usually use Control-Insert, Shift-Insert as the keys for clipboard operations, but Insert in my case is on numeric keypad (Num Lock Off). If I use it as by default, Ctrl-Insert works, Shift-Insert enters 0. If I activate Shift with Numeric Keypad works as in MS Windows option, both key sequences don't work. (On Windows Insert key on the numeric keypad always works for Ctrl-Ins,Shift-Ins clipboard command) Note: I suppose it has something to do with standard controls (edit, memo) used in general applications (for example Places-Search for files field, entering name of a new folder, gedit). In application with its own controls (Firefox, LibreOffice Write), Control-(Numeric)Insert, Shift-(Numeric)Insert work correctly. So I supposedly should choose gtk package, but there's no with exactly this name. [Bug 802036] [NEW] remove command can fail for addons, contains possible infinite loop
Public bug reported: The Ruby script addon-manager.rb contains an error in the code for the remove command. This bug causes certain addons where the ~/.vim directory is actually a symbolic link to another directory. This is the case for the Vim R plugin, distributed as a Debian package here: http://sites.google.com/site/jalvesaq/vimrplugin Removal will fail because it attempts to invoke a rmdir on the symbolically-linked ~/.vim file, which causes a Ruby exception. Steps to reproduce the behavior: 1) Install vim-addon-manager 2) Install the Vim R plugin DEB package from http://sites.google.com/site/jalvesaq/vimrplugin 3) Move the ~/.vim folder to another location, such as ~/vimbak 4) Create a temporary folder ~/tmpvim 5) Create a symbolic link with ln -s ~/tmpvim ~/.vim 6) Run vim-addons install r-plugin 7) Run vim-addons remove r-plugin 8) Observe an error message like the following Info: removing installed addon 'r-plugin' from /home/chris/.vim /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/fileutils.rb:264:in `rmdir': Not a directory - /home/chris/.vim (Errno::ENOTDIR) from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/fileutils.rb:264:in `rmdir' from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/fileutils.rb:263:in `each' from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/fileutils.rb:263:in `rmdir' from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/vim/addon-manager.rb:68:in `remove' from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/set.rb:194:in `each' from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/set.rb:194:in `each_key' from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/set.rb:194:in `each' from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/vim/addon-manager.rb:80:in `remove' from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/vim/addon-manager.rb:75:in `each' from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/vim/addon-manager.rb:75:in `remove' from /usr/bin/vim-addons:264:in `send' from /usr/bin/vim-addons:264 The problem is that the while-loop on line 66 is written while paths.size, which, in Ruby, will always evaluate to be true, because even the value 0 is considered true in Ruby. See: http://ruby-doc.org/docs/Newcomers/ruby.html#boolean Were it not for a fluke exception-handling within the loop, and exception raising in the case when the ~/.vim directory is a symbolic link, this would actually result in an infinite-loop. The loop should be changed to while paths.size 0. This bug affects the upstream Debian package of vim-addon-manager, too. [Bug 629258] Re: Battery life estimation never comes around
This bug is still present in Natty. Sorry, I can't get LauchPad to add natty/upower as a new target for this bug - maybe somebody more au fait with launchpad can do that. I have, however, examined tested my earlier patch (for upower on 10.10) against upower-0.9.9 that ships with Natty, and it checks out and works fine. Hence, I attach a .deb with the i386 binary of my patched upower, plus the source. If somebody wants to also compile for amd64 architecture and add to their PPA (like they did with the earlier patch) to aid distribution, then I'd be thankful - I don't have time for this. I also see a lot of comments about upstream patches and the need to re- enable the disabled code - this patch does exactly that - fixes the broken estimation code and re-enables it. I don't have time to do it myself, but if somebody wants to commit my patch back up to the ubuntu upower project, then this bug would be fixed for everybody. ** Attachment added: dsc debian source file + auxillaries, original source not included https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/upower/+bug/629258/+attachment/2181519/+files/upower_0.9.9-4eyre1.tar.gz -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/629258 Title: Battery life estimation never comes around To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/devicekit-power/+bug/629258/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

No, it is an internal card reader. Now it is working properly, I am not sure what had changed (maybe an update). [Bug 762987] Re: RT2870 WLAN Stick (D-Link DWA 140) not working. firmware does not support detected chipset
The last few days I've followed the proceedings in this thread. I experiences the same problems and I feel urged to participate in solving this matter, so may I join this discussion? I have aRT2870 based WLAN stick too. It identifies itself as: 148f:3070 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT2870/RT3070 Wireless Adapter. This adapter stopped working after kernel 2.6.21-32 and the mean time I've tried to get it to do its job with almost all kernels released but to no avail. The most recent one I've tried is 2.6.38-02063808 and that's a failure too for now. Of course I use my Ubuntu Server all the time so it's still on kernel 2.6.21-32. I tried all solutions suggested here, but so far none of them makes any difference. That's why I want to help here and I'm willing to test things if I'm requested too. I'm not quite sure where to start so first I'll state the results of lsmod | grep rt: xt_multiport2876 2 parport_pc 32228 0 x_tables 16544 8 xt_multiport,xt_limit,ipt_LOG,xt_recent,xt_state,xt_tcpudp,iptable_nat,ip_tables rt2800usb 37372 0 rt2x00usb 11548 1 rt2800usb rt2x00lib 29788 2 rt2800usb,rt2x00usb led_class 4096 1 rt2x00lib input_polldev 3716 1 rt2x00lib mac80211 181140 2 rt2x00usb,rt2x00lib rt2870sta 488948 1 cfg80211 93052 2 rt2x00lib,mac80211 crc_ccitt 1852 1 rt2800usb agpgart35020 1 sis_agp parport35340 3 parport_pc,ppdev,lp Just for testing I've blocked rt2870sta in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf but somehow it does load that driver according to the output above. Good to hear! If after a week he has not responded, you should file a bug. You should be sure to attach the patch and tag it as such in the BTS! [Bug 802056] [NEW] [i965gm] Flash, VMWare, SDL apps etc. freeze after few seconds
Public bug reported: This is a regression of Bug #275285. The problem was caused by 965GM not working correctly with framebuffer compression (FBC). In #275285 the solution was to disable FBC in xserver-xorg-video-intel code on 965GM by default (http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-intel/commit/?id=d24010b7b3f2419beb40dc5ae1e8aeb3e04b5a93) and add UMS option to enable it if needed. Since UMS were removed from Intel drivers and replaced by KMS now there is no user configurable option for FBC anymore. And disabling FBC by default was removed too along with UMS code (http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-intel/commit/?id=b9b159c49854d8d9d2207946bb583537bb0d48d6). KMS enables FBC for this chipset by default and there is no configurable setting that I could find to disable it. The best solution that I could come up with was to rebuild kernel with the attached patch. Please suggest a better solution if you know one or incorporate this patch into kernel. This documentation doesn't apply in this case, because Xfce translations aren't redone in launchpad, we directly take the upstream ones. Re: [Bug 797458] Re: When applying changes the update stops about halfway through the timer bar and no updates are loaded
The Update via apt appeared to work. Everything has been updated. Thanks a lot! I've included the file you requested. If the update fails again I'll let you know. Thanks again, John On Mon, Jun 20, 2011 at 10:28 PM, RedSingularity redsingular...@gmx.comwrote: Try: sudo apt-get clean Then try updating again. [Bug 733349] Re: Minimize Application's Windows upon clicking it's Launcher Icon
@seb128: Softwares behaviour can't please all users who have different workflows Agree, but they should provide options to try get closer to please these users, at least. The unity choices are often driven by design and confirmed or not by user testing. Those commenting that quite some users showed in that bug they don't agree the decision, it doesn't mean those use are representative, those who know enough to use a bug tracker and care enough to comment on it are quite technical users, their need might be different from most of the non technical users. Yes, but how many technical users participate of these user testing? I'm sure that this kind of users is a representative part of Ubuntu ecosystem. You can also note that GNOME3 removed the minimize button from their wm controls, you can read their rational on https://mail.gnome.org/archives /gnome-shell-list/2011-February/msg00192.html Sure, *but* the minimize button can be enabled again through gnome- tweak-tool. This way, the non-technical users that don't use minimize at all, have no unecessary buttons and more technical users that want this button back, can enable it. I think it's clear that there is a difference between the two decisions (from GNOME team and Canonical). Anyway, I think that, unfortunately, the decision is already take. @rohit-kumar-saraf: the unity trunk version doesn't include this functionality (my branch, that is linked to this report has the new functionality, but there is a known bug - related to bug #724045 - that I'll not fix, since the new code won't be merged with trunk). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/733349 Title: Minimize Application's Windows upon clicking it's Launcher Icon To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/733349/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
