[Bug 781042] Re: Critically improved Dutch translation available upstream

2011-06-25 Thread Benjamin Kerensa
@Lionel Le Folgoc:

Is there some defect or bug in the translation? If its just a improved
translation should it not be appropriately sent to the Translations Team
versus a bug report?

The following link provides information on when a bug report should be filed
regarding a translation and based by the original reporters summary it seems
this was filed erroneously:

[Bug 802026] [NEW] Booting results in flickering screen

2011-06-25 Thread John Morris
Public bug reported:

Brand New Alienware M17xR3 with Intel i915 IGP, and NVIDIA GT 460M
video.

New, Clean installation of Kubuntu 11.04. When booting up, and BEFORE
Xorg starts, the video mode switches and the video on the screen
flickers and switches rapidly between colors as it flickers. No text or
graphics are visible on the screen after that, just the flickering.

Disabling modeset for intel (kernel command line parameter
i915.modeset=0) stops the flickering and I get to a desktop. When doing
this, screen resolution is wrong and vgaswitcheroo is disabled, but at
least the computer is functional.

[Bug 802026] Re: Booting results in flickering screen

2011-06-25 Thread John Morris
The bug report was filed with a clean install (using the alternate CD,
because the regular/live CD has flickering video and I cant finish the
installation) After the install four commands were issued before the
apport bug report:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get openssh-server
sudo apt-get yakuake

So the latest software and bug fixes have been applied as of 25/06/2011.

[Bug 802027] [NEW] New release available: version 0.95.1 - debian source provided

2011-06-25 Thread Francesco Fumanti
Public bug reported:

A new version of Onboard is available. Please, have a look at the
changelog below for the changes since version 0.94.0 available in the
Ubuntu repositories.

The new version offers among others a new design and a facility to
define what theme it should use for its appearance as system default. So
I patched the source package to make Ambiance, the theme specially
designed for Unity in Ubuntu Natty the system default.

[Bug 802028] [NEW] Shift with Numeric Keypad works as in MS Windows implemented partially

2011-06-25 Thread Max Vlasov
Public bug reported:

I usually use Control-Insert, Shift-Insert as the keys for clipboard
operations, but Insert in my case is on numeric keypad (Num Lock Off).
If I use it as by default, Ctrl-Insert works, Shift-Insert enters 0. If
I activate Shift with Numeric Keypad works as in MS Windows option,
both key sequences don't work. (On Windows Insert key on the numeric
keypad always works for Ctrl-Ins,Shift-Ins clipboard command)

Note: I suppose it has something to do with standard controls (edit,
memo) used in general applications (for example Places-Search for files
field, entering name of a new folder, gedit). In application with its
own controls (Firefox, LibreOffice Write), Control-(Numeric)Insert,
Shift-(Numeric)Insert work correctly. So I supposedly should choose
gtk package, but there's no with exactly this name.

[Bug 802036] [NEW] remove command can fail for addons, contains possible infinite loop

2011-06-25 Thread Chris Lasher
Public bug reported:

The Ruby script addon-manager.rb contains an error in the code for the
remove command. This bug causes certain addons where the ~/.vim
directory is actually a symbolic link to another directory. This is the
case for the Vim R plugin, distributed as a Debian package here:

http://sites.google.com/site/jalvesaq/vimrplugin

Removal will fail because it attempts to invoke a rmdir on the
symbolically-linked ~/.vim file, which causes a Ruby exception.

Steps to reproduce the behavior:
1) Install vim-addon-manager
2) Install the Vim R plugin DEB package from
http://sites.google.com/site/jalvesaq/vimrplugin
3) Move the ~/.vim folder to another location, such as ~/vimbak
4) Create a temporary folder ~/tmpvim
5) Create a symbolic link with ln -s ~/tmpvim ~/.vim
6) Run vim-addons install r-plugin
7) Run vim-addons remove r-plugin
8) Observe an error message like the following

Info: removing installed addon 'r-plugin' from /home/chris/.vim
/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/fileutils.rb:264:in `rmdir': Not a directory -

from /usr/bin/vim-addons:264

The problem is that the while-loop on line 66 is written while paths.size,
which, in Ruby, will always evaluate to be true, because even the value 0 is
considered true in Ruby. See:

http://ruby-doc.org/docs/Newcomers/ruby.html#boolean

Were it not for a fluke exception-handling within the loop, and
exception raising in the case when the ~/.vim directory is a symbolic
link, this would actually result in an infinite-loop. The loop should be
changed to while paths.size 0.

This bug affects the upstream Debian package of vim-addon-manager, too.

[Bug 629258] Re: Battery life estimation never comes around

2011-06-25 Thread Andy Eyre
This bug is still present in Natty. Sorry, I can't get LauchPad to add
natty/upower as a new target for this bug - maybe somebody more au fait
with launchpad can do that.

I have, however, examined tested my earlier patch (for upower on
10.10) against upower-0.9.9 that ships with Natty, and it checks out and
works fine.

Hence, I attach a .deb with the i386 binary of my patched upower, plus
the source.

If somebody wants to also compile for amd64 architecture and add to
their PPA (like they did with the earlier patch) to aid distribution,
then I'd be thankful - I don't have time for this.

I also see a lot of comments about upstream patches and the need to re-
enable the disabled code - this patch does exactly that - fixes the
broken estimation code and re-enables it. I don't have time to do it
myself, but if somebody wants to commit my patch back up to the ubuntu
upower project, then this bug would be fixed for everybody.

2011-06-25 Thread Oliver Joos
I confirm that patch from comment 64 works on a Samsung SF510. But a
right click is very hard to accomplish, also after applying the diff
from comment 94. Tweaking its coordinates did not help either. But I
found that right click gets easier if the pressed area is just big
enough e.g. by holding the finger nearly parallel to the surface of the
touchpad.

Thanks anyway! The patch finally allows that the touchpad is disabled
while typing.

[Bug 786367] Re: Slow I/O on USB devices

2011-06-25 Thread fgr
and I think the reporter wanted to report a problem with a usb connected
sd card reader.

From my side it affects _just_ the sd card reader (internal, I don't
have a usb card reader). The read/write performance from usb harddisks
is same good, as before the update.

and perhaps this is a dublicate from Bug #774385?

I reported this bug using the ubuntu-bug tool, and it added the

I did mention that there is a thread on the Ubuntu forums about this
that included screenshots, but I might as well attach them to this too.

[Bug 786367] Re: Slow I/O on USB devices

2011-06-25 Thread Alejandro Díaz-Caro
No, it is an internal card reader. Now it is working properly, I am not
sure what had changed (maybe an update). It is a bit odd since by times
all the computer works too slow, including the internet connection and
the I/O from discs/card reader/usb.

Anyway, I will install the LTS version of Ubuntu soon, which used to
work perfectly, so if there is any way I can collaborate with this bug
report until I do that fresh install, please let me know.

[Bug 783582] Re: [Aspire 3830TG, Conexant ID 506c, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2011-06-25 Thread physe
After rebooting no sound at all again.

EAPD on pin 0x1b resets when the pc is turned off, so i set it again
with HDA_Analizer. But it did not fix the sound even after restarting
the session. As I said above, on my system it apparently works
randomly...

Is there any way to force EAPD on that pin, instead of rerunning the
script every time?

adapter I am using for wireless is a D-Link H/W Version B2 F/W Version
T1.02 with a MAC of F07D68F89641 which delivers an 'N' version of
wireless Networking via my Huwai router as provided by my TalkTalk ISP.
Ordinarily I get around 54mbps on my router/Adapter otherwise - which is
good. Hugo Shepherd

[Bug 762987] Re: RT2870 WLAN Stick (D-Link DWA 140) not working. firmware does not support detected chipset

2011-06-25 Thread mrahk
The last few days I've followed the proceedings in this thread.
I experiences the same problems and I feel urged to participate in solving this
matter, so may I join this discussion?

I have aRT2870 based WLAN stick too. It identifies itself as: 148f:3070
Ralink Technology, Corp. RT2870/RT3070 Wireless Adapter. This adapter
stopped working after kernel 2.6.21-32 and the mean time I've tried to
get it to do its job with almost all kernels released but to no avail.
The most recent one I've tried is 2.6.38-02063808 and that's a failure
too for now. Of course I use my Ubuntu Server all the time so it's still
on kernel 2.6.21-32.

I tried all solutions suggested here, but so far none of them makes any
difference. That's why I want to help here and I'm willing to test
things if I'm requested too. I'm not quite sure where to start so first
I'll state the results of lsmod | grep rt:

xt_multiport2876 2
parport_pc 32228 0
x_tables 16544 8
xt_multiport,xt_limit,ipt_LOG,xt_recent,xt_state,xt_tcpudp,iptable_nat,ip_tables
rt2800usb 37372 0
rt2x00usb 11548 1 rt2800usb
rt2x00lib 29788 2 rt2800usb,rt2x00usb
led_class 4096 1 rt2x00lib
input_polldev 3716 1 rt2x00lib
mac80211 181140 2 rt2x00usb,rt2x00lib
rt2870sta 488948 1
cfg80211 93052 2 rt2x00lib,mac80211
crc_ccitt 1852 1 rt2800usb
agpgart35020 1 sis_agp
parport35340 3 parport_pc,ppdev,lp

Just for testing I've blocked rt2870sta in
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf but somehow it does load that driver
according to the output above.

I'll await your response for what to do next.

Thanks for making the effort to solve the problems with these types of
WLAN USB sticks.

[Bug 801706] Re: fusecompress should depend on the fuse-utils package

2011-06-25 Thread Paul Tagliamonte
Good to hear!

If after a week he has not responded, you should file a bug. You should
be sure to attach the patch and tag it as such in the BTS!

That way, if this package needs a NMU or what have you, they can
consider including the patch.

Good luck!

[Bug 802052] [NEW] Ubuntu (and all variants) don't shows image preview in photo upload

- Put a button to zoom the thumbnails
- Show the preview for the multi-selection files window

  I finded some solutions:
  - Put a button to zoom the thumbnails
  - Show the preview for the multi-selection files window
  - Put a button to zoom the thumbnails, and other button to change the view
mode.

This bug is also happened in: Lubuntu 10.10/11.04 (I'm using it now),
  Xubuntu 10.04/10.10/11.04, Kubuntu 10.04/10.10/11.04, Ubuntu 8.10 to
11.04 according to my tests. On Nautilus, PCManFM, Thunar, Dolphin and

[Bug 315824] Re: Sound works for a while, then randomly stops working in 8.10

2011-06-25 Thread Vincent
Hi,
I have the same bug... or a similar one on Narval :
Sometimes, after the computer not running any sound and entering the sleep mode
(not the hibernate one), softwares keep running correctly but there is no more
sound.
I try the recommended process, but it doesn't work
  killall pulseaudio
  sudo alsa force-reload
  pulseaudio -D

I get the following lines about alsa force-reload :
lsof: WARNING: can't stat() fuse.gvfs-fuse-daemon file system /home/vnagy/.gvfs
  Output information may be incomplete.

and this one for pulseaudio -D :
E: main.c: Échec lors du démarrage du démon.
(deamon can't be launched)

I will try to get information on the bug with ubuntu-bug as it appears.

[Bug 802056] [NEW] [i965gm] Flash, VMWare, SDL apps etc. freeze after few seconds

2011-06-25 Thread Kolia Morev
Public bug reported:

This is a regression of Bug #275285. The problem was caused by 965GM not
working correctly with framebuffer compression (FBC).
In #275285 the solution was to disable FBC in xserver-xorg-video-intel code on
965GM by default
(http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-intel/commit/?id=d24010b7b3f2419beb40dc5ae1e8aeb3e04b5a93)
and add UMS option to enable it if needed. Since UMS were removed from Intel
drivers and replaced by KMS now there is no user configurable option for FBC
anymore. And disabling FBC by default was removed too along with UMS code
(http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-intel/commit/?id=b9b159c49854d8d9d2207946bb583537bb0d48d6).
KMS enables FBC for this chipset by default and there is no configurable
setting that I could find to disable it. The best solution that I could come up
with was to rebuild kernel with the attached patch.

Please suggest a better solution if you know one or incorporate this
patch into kernel.

It's idiotic, frankly, what about mountall *requires* plymouth to work?

[Bug 781042] Re: Critically improved Dutch translation available upstream

2011-06-25 Thread Lionel Le Folgoc
This documentation doesn't apply in this case, because Xfce translations
aren't redone in launchpad, we directly take the upstream ones. The
original reporter is already one of the Xfce translators, so no need to
send it to him. I told him to file the bugs this way. So it's fine as it
is, thanks.

(Sorry if I was a bit harsh, but I'm getting tired of this documentation
which is often wrong for various reasons, e.g. because it focuses on
main packages, and xfce is in universe... It should be explicitly added
to it: do not follow blindly this broken doc and ask more experienced
bug triagers, or the team responsible for this package set, e.g. ask
charlie-tca for xubuntu ;-))

[Bug 733349] Re: Minimize Application's Windows upon clicking it's Launcher Icon

2011-06-25 Thread Marco Biscaro
@seb128:
Softwares behaviour can't please all users who have different workflows

Agree, but they should provide options to try get closer to please these
users, at least.

The unity choices are often driven by design and confirmed or not by
user testing. Those commenting that quite some users showed in that bug
they don't agree the decision, it doesn't mean those use are
representative, those who know enough to use a bug tracker and care
enough to comment on it are quite technical users, their need might be
different from most of the non technical users.

Yes, but how many technical users participate of these user testing? I'm
sure that this kind of users is a representative part of Ubuntu
ecosystem.

You can also note that GNOME3 removed the minimize button from their wm
controls, you can read their rational on https://mail.gnome.org/archives
/gnome-shell-list/2011-February/msg00192.html

Sure, *but* the minimize button can be enabled again through gnome-
tweak-tool. This way, the non-technical users that don't use minimize at
all, have no unecessary buttons and more technical users that want this
button back, can enable it. I think it's clear that there is a
difference between the two decisions (from GNOME team and Canonical).

Anyway, I think that, unfortunately, the decision is already take.

@rohit-kumar-saraf: the unity trunk version doesn't include this
functionality (my branch, that is linked to this report has the new
functionality, but there is a known bug - related to bug #724045 - that
I'll not fix, since the new code won't be merged with trunk).
