[Bug 795349] Re: [Dell Latitude E6420] gnome-mouse-properties does not provide Touchpad settings

2011-09-15 Thread Hans Hellén
As a workaround you can use external USB mouse and disable the touchpad (and
the trackstick) in
BIOS Settings
– POST Behavior
– – Mouse/Touchpad, by selecting Serial Mouse.

To enter BIOS Setup you might have to keep F12 pressed down...

[Bug 850713] Crash report cannot be processed

2011-09-15 Thread Apport retracing service
Thank you for your report!

However, processing it in order to get sufficient information for the
developers failed (it does not generate an useful symbolic stack trace). This
might be caused by some outdated packages which were installed on your system
at the time of the report:

outdated debug symbol package for strace: package version 4.5.20-2.3ubuntu1
dbgsym version 4.5.20-2ubuntu2
tzdata version 2011g-0ubuntu0.11.04 required, but 2011j-1 is available

Please upgrade your system to the latest package versions. If you still
encounter the crash, please file a new report.

Thank you for your understanding, and sorry for the inconvenience!

[Bug 814331] Re: [Oneiric] update-manager installs packages without authentication

2011-09-15 Thread Colin Law
Can somebody clarify what should happen here? In 11.04 whenever I used
update manager to install updates I was asked to authenticate. On 11.10
Beta (15th Sept 2011) I am not asked to authenticate. Comments above
suggest that this is correct for administrator users. This appears not
to be consistent with the fact that from the command line I have to use
sudo apt-get upgrade, and authenticate.

2011-09-15 Thread David Planella
I think it's important to provide this functionality again, and the fact
that we need a new string is secondary on this particular case, so
translations shouldn't be blocking the update.

+1 from the translations side

[Bug 850728] [NEW] g-p-m/indicator-power: mixes up first and second batteries

2011-09-15 Thread Paul Sladen
Public bug reported:

This is a ThinkPad X61 Tablet. To reproduce:

  1. Boot with both batteries inserted (main battery, and docking battery)
  2. Plug in AC power
  3. Remove docking battery
  4. Remove main battery
  5. Re-plug docking battery

Result:

Indicator-power only shows one battery, but with the time-to-charge
predictions from the other battery.

Ideally the time-to-charge should be specific to an individual battery
pack itself (based on serial number).

[Bug 850725] [NEW] Feature Freeze Exception for LP:770906

2011-09-15 Thread Florian Brandes
Public bug reported:

The bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/oneiric/+source/ihu/+bug/770906 is a
FTBFS bug for oneiric.

Since Debian released a new version of ihu, I felt it would make sense to try
the new release and see whether it fixes the bug. Since it persisted in the new
Debian package, I fixed the bug in it and tested it in Ubuntu oneiric.
The package should be included, since it does not introduce new features (see
Debian changelog and main changelog)

In order to have this package available in oneiric, it needs this patch
to build. This is why there should be an exception in the Feature
Freeze.

** Description changed:

  This is a follow-up to https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/841945.
  Remaining issues are...

  List of positioning issues:

the BFB, should start a few px to the left)
  - There is too much space between the individual icons in the search result
  - There is too much space below each category header
  - The desktop dash box is much too large (both height and width)

  --

  List of shape issues:
  - Category header icons are too large
  - The font size of category header titles is too large
  - The search result icons are too small
  - The search filter toggle boxes are too high
  - The search filter toggle boxes are too narrow
  - the search box is too short
  - the expand/collapse triangle is the wrong shape and size
  - the expand/collapse triangle is missing from the filter results category
headers
  - The the font size of the text underneath each icon in the search results is
too large
  - The size and shape of the arrow that points to the currently selected Dash
Lens is incorrect
+
+ One more for the dash background, colour tweak so the background is
+ darker

[Bug 850391] Re: Grub keyboard default to us after update

2011-09-15 Thread Maraschin
By the way, there was a problem in Alpha 2 installation which couldn't
set a combination of language/keyboard that wasn't expected. Like
English language (locale) with a Swedish or German keyboard. This was
resolved with Alpha 3 (alpha 1 was working as well). After I did a full
update (I did not reinstall the system), the problem got back.

I'm not sure if this will still be valid after I do login into the system,
since I can't enter the encryption password.
I did boot with the alpha 3 DVD and could mount the encrypted disc but I've no
idea where to try to look for a fix since /etc/default/keyboard is correctly
set.

At boot time, I did edit grub configuration to add:

set lang=sv_SE

but I still get the american keyboard.

2011-09-15 Thread Paul Sladen
Public bug reported:

If the Power Settings… dialogue is already open, but in the background
and covered by other windows, it is not raised when the user re-chooses
it from the drop down menu. To reproduce:

  1. Indicator-power - Power Settings…
  2. Open a maximised window (eg. Firefox) over this.
  3. Indicator-power - Power Settings…

What happens:

  4. Nothing

What should happen:

  4. The dialogue-box should be raised to the front of the window stack
and receive focus just as it would when selected the first time.

[Bug 847944] Re: UIFe: Alt-Tab: Update layout behavior to make previews larger and outline active preview

2011-09-15 Thread John Lea
** Description changed:

This change requires no string changes. It merely makes the previews in
the alt-tab spread mode larger and lays them out with increased space
efficiency. Further it outlines the active selection with an orange
outline to make it more obvious what the currently selected item is.
+
+ Note Regarding User Testing Findings:
+ - In the recently conducted user testing the new Alt-Tab functionality was
examined extensively (we specifically recruited existing users of either
Alt+Tab (or Apple+Tab on mac) as our test participants). One of the main
issues that was found with the implementation was that users had difficulty
seeing which window was selected. This patch fixes this serious issue, and
there for it is important that the patch lands in time for this new feature's
launch with Oneiric.

[Bug 850749] [NEW] Display unreadable after dimming

2011-09-15 Thread Han Pilmeyer
Public bug reported:

Once my laptop screen is dimmed I can not read it any more. Dimming
happens even when dim is not selected in the screen settings. It
also happens before logging in. There is nothing I can do to un-dim the
screen (i.e. moving the mouse, keyboard, but also using the
contrast/brightness keys). When the screen is not dimmed, it is possible
to adjust brightness etc using the contrast/brightness keys.

If the laptop is suspended/resumed the screen will be back to normal
until it decides to dim the screen again.

This is reproducible and can be repeated as many times as necessary.

[Bug 850751] [NEW] Intel hda sound card unavailable right after boot on mac mini

2011-09-15 Thread David Santinoli
Public bug reported:

The embedded HDA Intel sound card on Mac Mini is not always available when the
boot sequence enters rc.local: attempts to access the device there (e.g. via
aplay) often fail.
My current workaround is to wait for the PCM devices (/proc/asound/card0/pcm0p,
/proc/asound/card0/pcm0c) in a check-sleep-check loop before launching the
aplay command.
The card always comes up in the end, so it looks like the card driver needs
just a little more time to properly complete initialization.

Have just installed 11.04 alongside XP, everything fine except the
sound. In my sound options there are two hardware options, the primary
HDMI sound for which this bug has been submitted, and a 'SoundAudigy'
one. This is a fairly old computer and has been updated, so that may
have been the original sound. I tried using both but neither have
  worked.
