[Bug 861775] Re: Xserver-xorg eats all memory and swap

2011-10-08 Thread EricDHH
With updates from october 8. the bug still exists. Xorg exhausts all
memory and swap, theirafter the kernel goes crazy and kills ubuntu one
and other services. There is nothing elso to do than login and start vlc
to take the full system down.

Will this showstopper go to the final release?

[Bug 395819] Re: Gnome-Do Preventing Suspend

2011-10-08 Thread Mario F.
Good point, Chris! Indeed, I've had an entry in my setup that pointed to
an NFS location. First I tried to unmount the NFS share before
suspending with no avail. After kicking the NFS entry out of the Files
and Folders plugin I am not able to reproduce the suspend issue. If I
add the NFS share the issue is back again.

[Bug 870316] Re: creating of new user not compatible with gdm

2011-10-08 Thread HrevilO
as already mentioned:
ls -la /home/username/ at a shell logged in with the new username shows no such
file (.ICEauthority).

I tried:
copying the file from another user (that actually works) and changing the
owner, group and permissions corresponding to the new user. Even using the new
file with iceauth show worked without problems.
but login with gdm was still not possible.

the new user was created by "users-admin" and i tried it a few times
with different usernames.

[Bug 796513] Re: Switching to application with multiple windows alternates the target windows

2011-10-08 Thread Xavier Guillot
Problems of focus improved a lot with last Compiz / Unity updates, but
one of them is still not fixed for me, when there are 2 windows of an
application running, one maximized in the background, another which
takes the foreground and is closed.

As explained in duplicate
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/813714

Ex: I run Gpodder, maximized, only one instance of the program, and
launch the update verification.

During this time, I go back to Firefox by clicking on its icon on Unity
dock, without minimizing Gpodder, and continue my surf.

Suddendly, Gpodder comes to the foreground with 2 windows : the first
one, the maximized program, and another one on first plan which tells me
there are updates available with options buttons (Cancel - Download) ;
this window, which is not maximized on screen, has well the focus.

I click on "Download", updates are downloading, so the second window of
Gpodder closes.

Logically, as it is the behavior in Unity, focus on the dock re-goes to
the last application which had it before the new window took it, ie
Firefox.

Problem : it is still the main Gpodder window maximized which appears in
front of my screen. But of course, global menu is the one of Firefox and
if I click on "close" button in order to close Gpodder, it's Firefow
which disappears.

Again, I have to click anywhere on Gpodder window to re-focus it, and
then close or click on Firefox icon.

This also occurs sometimes with Synaptic and widow of downloads, too.

I hope I'm clear, please see screenshot taken just after I clicked on
"Download" on dialog window of Gpodder and after this one closed, focus
is on Firefox (right arrow on dock), global menu is Firefox but on my
screen, the main program I see maximized on foreground is Gpodder...

[Bug 870188] Re: Multiple monitors - Strange crashes

2011-10-08 Thread RobinJ
"For X bugs we also like having log files collected from the point after
reproducing the issue." << That's going to be hard as most of the times I only
get a wallpaper with a cursor.
"Would you like to select one particular issue to focus on for this bug
report?" << Yes, the problem regarding the strange beheaviour of Xorg when
bootign with multiple monitors connected. (So not the BusyBox issues, I think
that might have been a problem with the CD, as I first booted Ubuntu from a
CD-RW, the times after that I booted it from a USB drive and I didn't get a
BusyBox anymore).

[Bug 395819] Re: Gnome-Do Preventing Suspend

2011-10-08 Thread Mario F.
Forgot to say that this seems to be not an NFS bug in my opinion. E.g. I
am able to play mp3 files with totem via NFS. While listening I can
suspend and resume without problems. Totem even continues playing at
that point of the song where it stopped. So it's not a problem in
general that an NFS share is in use.

I can confirm this issue in wesnoth 1:1.8.6-1 on Ubuntu Oneiric. I have
attached a screenshot demonstrating one dialog which shows translated
strings and one menu which show the squares. I am not sure what's
causing this, but I find it odd that it is possible to show the correct
characters in some places, but not all.

This checkbox no longer seems to exist in GTK3 (Nautilus 3.2.0), and the
the default is now easy to change in nautilus by right clicking and
going to the properties of a file.

This bug is therefore now resolved.

[Bug 870606] [NEW] launcher does not show when mouse hits TopLeft corner

2011-10-08 Thread ChrisLees
Public bug reported:

When using Unity 3D on Ubuntu 11.10, I've noticed the following
behaviour.

When the launcher is hidden and I move the mouse to the top-left (my
RevealMode setting for the launcher) it will not appear. It's not
sitting behind other windows or anything - it's just not showing at all.

It DOES show when I hold down the Super key. If I go into CCSM and
change the RevealMode to "Left", it works as it should.

However, I want to be able to use the top-left corner as the hot corner.

To reproduce:

1. Go into CCSM and change the Unity Plugin settings, so the "Reveal Mode"
setting is set to "TopLeft".
2. Maximise a window or move it so it overlaps with the launcher a little.
3. The launcher hides, and moving the mouse to the left or the top-left will
NOT reveal it. You would expect that moving the mouse to the top-left WOULD
reveal the launcher as this is the setting.

I have the latest updates and kernel 3.0.0-12-generic #19-Ubuntu SMP but the
problem still occurs.
When I safely remove the external USB HD, my PC freezes, can't do anything but
push reset button to restart it.

Description:Ubuntu oneiric (development branch)
Release:11.10

When booting I get this message:

Not sure has to do with this problem, /dev/sdf is the external USB HD I

[Bug 835174] Re: Touchpad scrolling broken

2011-10-08 Thread Brad Figg
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.

However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during
any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all.
Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request
further testing. This is such a request.

We have noted that there is a newer version of the development kernel
than the one you last tested when this issue was found. Please test
again with the newer kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still
exists or not.

If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to
Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from
Incomplete to Fix Released.

Thank you for your help, we really do appreciate it.

There's by the way no option for adjusting the delay in the Unity

[Bug 870618] [NEW] debchange: "precise" is the default distribution in oneiric

2011-10-08 Thread Paul Collins
Public bug reported:

devscripts 2.11.1ubuntu2 alters debchange's default for the distribution
field to "precise". I can't imagine that that majority of oneiric users
who invoke debchange won't be preparing uploads for oneiric, i.e. for
their PPAs.

>From my skim of the devscripts changelog, it looks like this update
usually waits until after release. Please consider reverting
debchange's default distribution to "oneiric" until then.

[Bug 870618] Re: debchange: "precise" is the default distribution in oneiric

2011-10-08 Thread Paul Collins
** Description changed:

devscripts 2.11.1ubuntu2 alters debchange's default for the distribution
- field to "precise". I can't imagine that that majority of oneiric users
- who invoke debchange won't be preparing uploads for oneiric, i.e. for
+ field to "precise". I would imagine that that majority of oneiric users
+ who invoke debchange will be preparing uploads to oneiric, i.e. for
  their PPAs.

From my skim of the devscripts changelog, it looks like this update
usually waits until after release. Please consider reverting
debchange's default distribution to "oneiric" until then.
