[Bug 864784] Re: Enableing second monitor causes crash.

2012-01-05 Thread Omer Akram
** Description changed:

+ SRU TEST CASE:
+ 1. start nvidia-settings
+ 2. turn on secondary monitor with twin view
+ 3. the screen comes up scrambled or unity crashes
+ 4. now install Unity from oneiric-proposed
+ 5. see there are not artifacts on the screen.
+
+ =Original Report=
+
I upgraded to 11.10 and am no longer able to use my external monitor
with my laptop while using Unity. It was fine with 11.04.

I have the latest NVIDIA driver installed via jockey.
I tried both drivers listed, both act the same.

  Repo:
I use the Nvidia-Settings manager tool to turn on my secondary monitor with
twinview. (As usual)
The screens come up but the graphics are scrambled up. If i'm lucky Unity
will crash and I'll be left with a blank screen with just my wallpaper left.

  Unity 2d works as expected.

[Bug 864037] Re: workspace switcher zoom failure with multiple monitors

2012-01-05 Thread Omer Akram
** Description changed:

+ SRU TEST CASE:
+ 1. connect an external display to your system
+ 2. click workspace switcher
+ 3. notice all the graphical problems on the screen
+ 4. now install Unity from oneiric-proposed

When my laptop is not connected to an external monitor and I click the
Workspace Switcher, the "zoom out" effect to show all workspaces works
properly. When I connect a monitor to my DisplayPort output and click
  Workspace Switcher, the laptop's built-in monitor shows a messed-up
background (see attachment) and the external monitor shows no
  background.

[Bug 793394] Re: iinet users default to "Server for Australia".

2012-01-05 Thread Kiwinote
Hi John! Choosing which mirror to use isn't something that's handled by
software-center. I would reassign the bug if I knew where it belongs,
but as it's something that can't be fixed in software-center I'll mark
the software-center task as invalid.

[Bug 890441] Re: nautilus memory leak

2012-01-05 Thread dino99
Unity is not installed nor compiz (totaly purged)

Looking at .gtk-bookmarks show an issue with dir/subdir names if thet contain
"é": translated with % + uppercase letters.
Had Vidéos & Téléchargement dirs , both was malformed into .gtk-bookmarks. Now
i've replaced "é" by "e" to avoid this issue. But need to fix it anyway; i'm
using fr_FR-UTF8 as page code.

This temporary workaround dont remove the gtk-crital errors into
.xsession-errors, get the same but far less numerous.
Nautilus service at early gnome-classic session (without effect) is using ~10
Mib; if the filebrowser is opened then the ram used grows to 14; opening
firefox browser then nautilus use around 20 Mib.

I've taken time to observe how that going on: ram crunching seems have
stopped (good news) and the early errors logged to xsession-errors dont
have new error added. That said, since i've renamed the faulty dirs
names, i get this new error:

** CRITICAL **: enchant_dict_check: assertion `g_utf8_validate(word,
len, NULL)' failed

About your request above "gtk3 dbg package", i've looked at synaptic
archive list about "gtk3" and dont find -dbg package except for
canberra; which one(s) do you need ?

AS a result this nautilus issue seems to be a "language" issue as
special letters as "é" are not understood by the system directories.
(this system is fully non-stop updated)

[Bug 861694] Re: Ubuntu 11.10 install on Macbook has no right click

2012-01-05 Thread uMac
And another one is right click drag which is used for example in 3D
software for moving scene around. Right click on mac is with two fingers
but if you drag after clicking it becomes scrolling instead of right
click dragging. Scrolling should happen only if there was no click
before otherwise it should be right click dragging.

  Hi

  Description: Ubuntu 11.04
  Release: 11.04
  unity:

  What Happened:
  1) I clicked on the workspace switcher to reveal the workspaces.
  2) I right-clicked on a icon in the unity launcher, such as right clicking on
the applications icon to then reveal the application sections.
  3) Unity then, correctly, brought me to the current selected workspace.
However the quicklist then freezes and doesn't respond to clicks or movement.
The user then has to click on the actual launcher to then hide this frozen
quicklist.

  What I Expected to happen:
I expected for the quicklists to work after right-clicking on an icon in the
launcher while choosing a workspace.

Hope this bug can be fixed soon :)

  Andy

[Bug 744310] Re: Fingerprint Validity reader devices [138a:0005] VFS301 and [138a:0008] VFS300 not recognized.

2012-01-05 Thread PauLoX
Hi Andrej and thanks for your work.

I tried last code from vfs301 and libfprint with fprint-demo and it
works well.

This is my configuration:
$ lsusb -s 001:004
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 138a:0008 Validity Sensors, Inc. VFS300 Fingerprint
Reader
$ uname -a
Linux oz 3.0.0-14-generic #23-Ubuntu SMP Mon Nov 21 20:28:43 UTC 2011 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
$ lsb_release -sd
Ubuntu 11.10

I attach a shell script to patch and compile libfprint with vfs301 and
test it with fprint-demo and it works for me.

I hope to see soon this patch in the libfprint git master and fprint
stable ppa.

[Bug 619890] Re: Segmentation fault on reinstalling amarok

2012-01-05 Thread Kiwinote
Hi!

Thanks for your bug report and sorry for the delayed response.
As you may be aware, during each cycle a lot of work goes into
software-center. However, over time we build up a long list of
bugs which are most likely no longer present in recent versions
of software-center.

In an attempt to clean up the bug list for software-center I am
expiring this bug because it meets one or more of the following
criteria:
- it would seem quite likely that this bug is no longer present
  in recent versions of software-center,
- the bug report does not contain sufficient information for us
to reproduce and/or fix the bug,
- the issue is most likely in an external piece of code and has
most likely been fixed since the bug was reported.

If you experience any problems in recent development versions
of software-center, please do continue to report new bugs.
Thanks again for your help!

[Bug 878934] Re: Menu selection is wrong in Java apps

2012-01-05 Thread Gerhard Radatz
I have this same bug and would like to provide this additional
information to track down the problem:

-) It did not happen with Ubuntu 11.04 Natty
-) It DOES happen with Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric, even with the same jvm (oracle 1.6)

-) It happens only if the Frame starts up in maximized mode, but not if the
frame starts in non-maximized mode.
-) If you toggle maximized state of the frame off, the offset problem will
disappear. Toggling it back on will not make it appear again.
-) To me it seems that the vertical offset is exactly the height of the global
menu / window title bar.
-) I currently have my Unity Launcher set to "hide never". This causes popup
elements of a java application to be horizontally misplaced: They are shifted
to the left by width(launcher) pixels. This horizontal misplacement also is
fixed as soon as the maximized state of the frame is changed for the first time.

So, there seems to be some window initialization issue here.

[Bug 803943] Re: compiz consuming a lot of cpu

2012-01-05 Thread Luke Hoersten
Daniel, makes sense. Based on the previous discussion I wasn't sure if
we'd determined whether or not this actually fixed all the known issues.
Merely confirming it does not.

An update: after leaving my computer running for over 24 hours, compiz
is sitting firmly at 60%+ CPU while doing nothing on the computer and
using the test PPA repos.

[Bug 890441] Re: nautilus memory leak

2012-01-05 Thread dino99
Latest packages installed: language-pack-fr, language-pack-en, language-
pack-gnome-fr & en 1.12.04+20111229

After having renamed the faulty names dirs and set a clean .gtk-
bookmarks, finally made a cold reboot. Get the usual errors logged into
xsession-errors attached. No more errors added then.

** Attachment added: "new log after names cleaning"

[Bug 639787] Re: Ubuntu logo is replaced by third party logo

distributors logo for this which seems a reasonable thing to do as we
don't want to hard code distro branding.

[Bug 638039] Re: software-center crashed with TypeError in _on_property_changed()

[Bug 912349] [NEW] installer hangs forever if Default-Release is set in apt.conf

2012-01-05 Thread Peter Hurley
Public bug reported:

When installing over an existing installation (necessary if an update
crashes half-way through :( ) and /etc/apt/apt.conf has the Default-
Release set (eg, to "natty"), then the installer will quietly hang at
"Saving installed packages".

I discovered what the problem was by:
1. booting from the install CD
2. selecting "Try Ubuntu" (rather than "Install Ubuntu")
3. opening a terminal
4. starting the installer with debug logging on; ie., ubiquity -d
5. this popped up a dialog indicating a system problem
6. looked at the intended report which complained that APT:Default-Release =
"natty" was not in the repository

I manually fixed it by temporarily mounting the root volume and deleting
the ./etc/apt/apt.conf file.

[Bug 890441] Re: nautilus memory leak

2012-01-05 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Those are useful informations, do you remember how you added this
bookmarks? The accents should be supported but maybe something did wrong
escaping or encoding when it wrote there.

In any case your issue is a valid bug but different from the leak (or at
least it seems so), could you open a new bug about it using "ubuntu-bug
nautilus" and adding those informations? I will look at getting that
issue resolutions

The gtk3 debug package is libgtk-3-0-dbg

[Bug 718250] Re: software-center crashed with SIGSEGV in g_atomic_int_exchange_and_add()

- the bug report does not contain sufficient information for us

- the issue is most likely in an external piece of code and has

[Bug 912364] [NEW] new generic 2.6.32-37 causes no ati driver to load

2012-01-05 Thread Darren Hussain
Public bug reported:

All graphics and compiz and crossfire work fine in release 2.6.32-36!

updated system to release 2.6.32-37 and graphics performance is
terrible. Have update many times before and no release has ever affected
my gpu's.

I can get into ATI Catalyst Control Centre Admin but most of the options
are not listed, including crossfire. I cannot move a window without very
slow response and re-draw.

I have to keep loading release 2.6.32-36 as all works perfectly. Please
release 2.6.32-38 and maybe all will be well again.

Is this an X-server problem?
Why aren't the drivers loading fully?

[Bug 903236] Re: Touchpad incorrectly detected as PS/2 mouse on Dell Inspiron 15R N5110

2012-01-05 Thread ndkhoi168
Similar issue for me. Multi touch doesn't work anymore, event scrolling
on touchpad as well.

** Description changed:

This is likely a kernel problem, but I couldn't figure out which package
to file it against if it is. I know others have had this bug, but I
haven't seen it reported from this hardware.

I'm on a Dell Inspiron 15R (N5110) laptop. It says to specify the
manufacturer of the touchpad, but I can't find it. It said "Synaptics
touchpad" in a review, and from my googlings I've seen Alps mentioned.

In any case, it's not detected as a touchpad, but as a PS/2 mouse, and
thus two finger scrolling and other multitouch features don't work.
There's no touchpad tab in System > Administration > Mouse.

I've attached the output of these commands:

  $ cat /proc/bus/input/devices
- $ xinput --list
+ $ xinput --list
  $ cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log

I'm using Ubuntu 11.10. Here's the output of uname -a:

Linux morsan 3.0.0-14-generic #23-Ubuntu SMP Mon Nov 21 20:28:43 UTC

I have some detail I can add to this bug. This has stopped happening to
me after I changed the "Turn off after:" setting in System Settings ->
Screen. I still have have my settings configured to Lock the screen
after 10 minutes.

This leads me to believe that the bug is confined to code responsible
for turning the LCD off to save power.

Let me know if you need any extra detail.

[Bug 912320]

2012-01-05 Thread Ubuntu Foundation's Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/912320/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 890441] Re: nautilus memory leak

2012-01-05 Thread dino99
Stacktrace about nautilus again?

Additional comments since previous post:
- running a new app ( with wine) add the same errors at opening time, but no
more then.
- have looked at an other system with Oneiric i386: it has the same errors
logged and again into .gtk-boomarks "Vidéos" is translated "Vid%C3%A9os". So
Oneiric is concerned too for the same reasons. Renaning to "Video" and removing
.gtk-bookmarks solve the issue. This system was dist-upgraded from Natty
(xsession-error was quite empty with Natty)

[Bug 405294] Re: a2dp skips terribly

2012-01-05 Thread Michael Maddern
I also have the same problem. It works perfectly under Windows 7, and
well with Ubuntu 10.04. But in Ubuntu 11.10 bluetooth audio skips a lot.
It's not that noticeably affected by other bluetooth devices or WiFi. It
is affected (obviously) by the distance, anything more than about 1
metre and it skips a lot, with Windows it's still playing perfectly at
10 metres. I've tried all the suggestions here and anywhere else I can
find, and nothing fixes it.

[Bug 912007] Re: Apparmor profile denies access to /dev/dm-* for guests using LVM partitions storage

2012-01-05 Thread Serge Hallyn
For the record I've reproduced this.

Interestingly, /dev/dm-2 *is* in the allowed list. Following is the
syslog entry:

Jan 5 10:07:11 sergelap kernel: [ 5768.408495] type=1400
audit(1325779631.010:95): apparmor="DENIED" operation="open" parent=1606
profile="/usr/lib/libvirt/virt-aa-helper" name="/dev/dm-2" pid=13978
comm="virt-aa-helper" requested_mask="r" denied_mask="r" fsuid=0 ouid=0
Jan 5 10:07:11 sergelap kernel: [ 5768.682389] type=1400
audit(1325779631.286:96): apparmor="STATUS" operation="profile_load"
name="libvirt-defba839-e7fc-1290-17b4-d0e8c1e68296" pid=13985
comm="apparmor_parser"

So it is virt-aa-helper's profile which needs to be updated, not that of
the VMs. In particular:

/etc/apparmor.d/usr.lib.libvirt.virt-aa-helper

[Bug 912366] [NEW] [Oneiric] jockey.backend.BackendCrashError and no drivers

2012-01-05 Thread Master5597
Public bug reported:

I was trying to check for drivers and the jockey-gtk would never give me
any options, so I tried the text version. The basic error seems to be
that it doesn't think it was able to update the repositories. from my
basic at the look at the python it looks like it's not giving a return
back from updating the repositories and then throws the
BackendCrashError. all my repositories seem to be updating properly, am
I missing something? info below. when I was searching for related bugs
