[Bug 1008876] Re: plugin package broken

2012-06-28 Thread anatoly techtonik
Let me raise a point. Plugins are things that work automatically or with
a minimal manual intervention. Every plugin-enabled product has rules
reflected in official documentation how to work with plugins. If the
platform that distributes the product breaks this user level API - it
shoud provide users with an interface that doesn't make their experience
worse.

Requiring users a deep knowledge of the platform (not even Ubuntu, but
Debian) to use high level package written in cross-platform language -
is a very serious issue. And knowing a specific layout of Debian file
system is the deep knowledge.

The appropriate workaround against this is to enable installed plugins
automatically.

[Bug 1018419] Re: grub fails to boot OS images on second hard drive

2012-06-28 Thread Phillip Susi
It sounds like the drive may be dieing, or at least there is some
problem communicating with it. Please open the disk utility and check
the SMART status of the drive. You may also want to run the long self
test. If that all checks out, then try to repeat the ls (hd1,5) command
and see if it consistently fails the first time, then starts working.

[Bug 1018687] Re: [Ubuntu 12.04] GRUB can't load any OS after the installation

2012-06-28 Thread Phillip Susi
When reporting bugs, it is important to be specific. It doesn't work
is not a usable error description. You need to describe what you did,
and what happened. For instance, after choosing to boot Ubuntu, the
screen goes black and after waiting for several minutes, nothing
happens.

[Bug 1016661] Re: Onboard does not respect my keyboard layout

2012-06-28 Thread Francesco Fumanti
Moreover, I remember there was a time, where the order of the layouts in
Settings - Keyboard Layout was also of importance to have Onboard use
the correct layout. You might also try to see whether the order of the
layouts changes anything about the behaviour of the bug.

[Bug 977158] Re: unity video lens always re-thumbnails

2012-06-28 Thread Sebastien Bacher
** Changed in: unity-lens-video (Ubuntu Precise)
   Importance: Undecided = High

** Changed in: unity-lens-video (Ubuntu Precise)
   Status: New = In Progress

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ The video lens keeps trying to thumbnail videos and uses resources when it
should just ignore the one which it already tried and can't be thumbnailed
+
  [Test Case]
  1. Make sure to have a video file in the lens that is failing in creating the
thumbnail
  2. Open the video lens
-- Verify that the thumbnail is not available
+    - Verify that the thumbnail is not available
  3. Close and re-open the video lens
-- Verify that the lens doesn't try to re-load the thumbnail
+    - Verify that the lens doesn't try to re-load the thumbnail

  [Regression Potential]
  Video thumbnails broken.

  Original description:

  - The totem video thumbnailer times out after 30secs (or so)
  - Sometimes this isn't enough time to create a thumbnail
  - unity video lens will re-thumbnail these video files every time the lens is
opened (and fail every time)

Nautilus has the idea of a failed thumbnail, so that it won't keep
trying to thumbnail files that failed previosly. The video lens should
  do something similar.

[Bug 949823] Re: icedtea-netx should handle jnlp mime type

2012-06-28 Thread Sebastien Bacher
settings invalid for gvfs, I tracked that down this week and it was a
glib issue, see bug #901171 for the details but basically if there was
no default handler for the exact mimetype if would prefer the default
handler for a subtype to an handle for the exact type.

Said different if java source is a subclass of xml with no default
handler for java_source and firefox default for xml it would pick
firefox (the default for the subtype)

2012-06-28 Thread Till Kamppeter
Marcin, thank you. The update is OK. I forgot that in the SRU I did not

works now as the output of the update process says

Updating PPD files for gutenprint ...

When cursor is not moving, these 2 lines are added to dmesg per move:

size:15
/build/buildd/linux-3.2.0/drivers/hid/hid-logitech-dj.c:

[Bug 1018559] Re: authentication needed doesn't get focus when changing proxy settings

2012-06-28 Thread guntbert
Hi Sebastien,
I am using unity, but the dialog I get is not the (rather small) one used by
gksudo. That one gets the focus as it should. Here I see a dialog that seems
unique to gnome-control-center (why doesn't it use the gksudo mechanism anyway?)
I am attaching a screenshot of this dialog (strangely it has has *some* german
text, whereas my whole UI is in english). I didn't manage to show it without
focus :-)

ehcpdeveloper are you still seeing this issue? This is fixed in later

running into this crash -- I haven't had time to look into yet, and it
unfortunately doesn't look like I'll have time anytime soon; but if it's
still in use for a reason I'll *make* time to fix the bug.

2012-06-28 Thread Marcos Wasem
Too bad! I need guitrix madly! Anyway, as of today Rosegarden 12.04
is in KX Studio PPA, it worked for me without uninstalling anything.
Thanks for the tip anyway.

[Bug 1013199] Re: be2net driver used by HP BL460c bridge networking not working

2012-06-28 Thread Peter Matulis
@Stefan

I'm accompanying an affected user and we are focusing on a manual
method:

# ip link set dev eth0 down
# brctl addbr br0
# brctl addif br0 eth0
# ip link set dev eth0 up
# ip link set dev br0 up
# ip addr add 10.153.107.142/24 brd + dev br0
# ip route add default via 10.153.107.1

Observations using be2net:

1. Lucid cannot bring up eth0 nor br0.
2. Maverick, Natty, and Oneiric can bring up eth0 and br0 (Live CD; no updates).
3. Precise can bring up eth0 but not br0 (Live CD; no updates).

[Bug 987153] Re: Xorg freeze

2012-06-28 Thread Raman Gupta
I'm on a desktop so I suspect the only time the power saving stuff kicks
in is when the monitors go to sleep... I'm guessing that for a laptop
the driver may try to manage the power consumption more aggressively,
and so cause this to happen more often.

[Bug 1018626] Re: xorg

2012-06-28 Thread Dave Lentz
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 966744] Re: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor)

2012-06-28 Thread C . Schöll
Seems totally arbitrary to me, but at least for me it worked:

I read at AskUbuntu http://askubuntu.com/a/133537/71437 about this being
related to the USC. In fact since removing it I did not have a single
dark resume and I used to have it everytime. As said, this seems
completely arbitrary.

[Bug 985144] Re: Multiple File Copy I/O Failure 12.04 Precise Pangolin

2012-06-28 Thread JrZabott
My problem has this particularity, all files with this problem were
create by deja dup, in a Perfect State NTFS external HD.

I can access, copy, or move any file, except the created by deju dup. And after
trying access (read in fact) one of this files the reading of the HD becomes
irresponsible. (same error above).
Tried all scans, fixes, windows fixes in this NTFS system, but the only problem
is: if I try to read one of these files, the problem start, else I do
everything i ever did with this unit, no problem. No badsector, in a bizarre
way, the extern drives becomes unreadable, in Windows, Ubuntu, text mode
linuxes, USB or Hard connected. This backup are really important to me
.
Plz help. =)

[Bug 873690] Re: No way to install tasks like LAMP.

2012-06-28 Thread Gary Lasker
Thanks Jo-Erland, I'll set this confirmed. I think it will make it
wishlist so that we track it directly for feature planning and
development since I believe we will need to add new functionality to
support it. In any case, it needs a bit of investigation.

Thanks again!

[Bug 1018873] [NEW] weird behavior after cancel on the Authenticate dialog (systemsettings/network/network proxy)

2012-06-28 Thread guntbert
Public bug reported:

(maybe related to #1018559)
When I click cancel on the authenticate dialog from system
settings/network/network proxy | apply system wide, the same dialog with
(maybe) some text changed is displayed over and over (up to 6 times) until it
finally stays closed. See the attached screenshots (note the text in german
although my UI is in english, that text sometimes is changing )

How to reproduce: Open SystemSettings / Network, select network proxy,
change the settings (e.g. from none to manual or vice versa), click
Apply systemwide, click cancel on the upcoming authentication dialog .

Changing the settings to automatic doesn't invoke the authentication
dialog, even when selecting Apply systemwide

[Bug 853681] Re: software center doesn't recognize package is loaded

2012-06-28 Thread Gary Lasker
P.S. Thanks for your comment about Ubuntu! For me as a developer one of
my favorite things about Ubuntu is that I get to interact directly with
real people who use it everyday, and it's a great feeling to help a
person solve a problem that they are having. I am also very appreciative
that folks take the time and trouble to report the bugs or other issues
they are having. You would not believe what a great help it is to us!

So, I thank you again. :)

Best regards,
Gary

[Bug 1018876] [NEW] today's update 1.5.7 pulse18 on Kubuntu12.04-64 stopped opening the only two win apps that i have, which have worked almost golden on pulse17

2012-06-28 Thread ev
Public bug reported:

1.
ev@kub-1204:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Release:12.04

Problem package is 1.5.7-0ubuntu3-pulse18.
Can't get the above package box to recognize this. (Sorry)

2.
I have just two windows apps. DesignCAD14 and Freeship+ 3.2.
These have been working with improving success on all recent previous wine
stable, and Beta 1.5x until today.
With 1.5.7, opening these apps throw an error msg. approximately: `no windows
file associated with this type of file`, etc.

3.
All *.exe fail to open.

4.
I did not have.dbg installed.
apport is not triggered.

5.
Tried to roll back to pulse17. This resulted in no error msgs, but the apps
fail to open after a bit of waiting.

6.
1.5.5 was already awesome guys...Deepest of gratitude, here...

[Bug 1018877] [NEW] Thunderbird munges new email that arrives while downloading old emails

2012-06-28 Thread Robert Schroll
Public bug reported:

I use IMAP to access my Gmail account, which has a fair number of emails
in it. When I set up Thunderbird on a new computer, it takes a while to
download all of those emails (presumably for its full-text search). If
a new email arrives during that time, there's a 50% chance it will get
munged up with an old email. That is, the text that Thunderbird thinks
is the email contains fragments of two emails. This text may not start
with an email header, so the display is typically rather messed up.

There is apparently no way to force Thunderbird to re-download the
email, short of archiving it, letting Thunderbird notice that it's gone,
and then adding it back to the inbox. Of course, now you have to
download it again, and there's that chance that it'll get screwed up
again. (This also destroys the order of emails in the inbox, if you
like to use sort by order instead of by (alleged) time.)

Note that this seems to only be an issue with the full text. I think
the headers are downloaded separately, so the email shows up fine in the
list of emails. It's just the display that's broken.
