Or if you still have other kernels installed even easier would be to
boot to a kernel with which you experienced the issue.

[Bug 1164988] [NEW] upgrade from 10.04 to 12.04 not possible

2013-04-05 Thread Helmut Gerlach
Public bug reported:

The system I try to upgrade is a biolinux6 system which is based on ubuntu
10.04 and where a script is provided to make a two-step upgrade to biolinux7 on
ubuntu 12.04. I had several trials for testing the upgrade via the script on
virtual machines without any problem.
Normally the script first upgrades the system to the new ubuntu version and in
the second step it installs the new packages for biolinux7.
What`s happened was, that after running the script first there was an update of
the packages for 10.04, after this the first restart
follows. Then I run the script again and it made a test to the python-version
after this result it starts the update-manager to start the upgrade. Normally
this works without any problems and the system should have to be restarted
again and running the script one time more. But here it stops with two times
the waring

Failed to read the mirror file

from the update-manager an information appears that some third-party sources
are set inactive which could be activated later.
Than it looks as if the new sources are installed. But instead of finishing
this and go on downloading the updated files the information appears that an
update was not possible because of the reason that there broken packages are
held. But this is the point I am not familiar with and don't now how to go on
solving this problem by myself.

[Bug 1164145] Re: 12.04 LTS - System freezes when user logs in

2013-04-05 Thread Joe Burgess
Franco,

huh so you get that system crash every time you run apport-collect?
That sounds like possibly another bug in apport-collect. We'll deal with
that one later. The way to test the latest mainline kernel is actually
pretty simple.

1) Head over to http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.9-rc5-raring/
and download the headers, image and image extra for your architecture (i386 for
32 bit, amd64 for 64 bit)
2) in a terminal we are now going to install those packages using dpkg.
Assuming you downloaded them to your Downloads folder run this command

sudo dpkg -i ~/Downloads/linux-*-3.9.*.deb

3) Reboot and select the new 3.9 kernel!

Once you do that, if you could do the apport-collect 1164145 and report
on whether it works or not that'd be great :)

[Bug 1164985] [NEW] [FFE] get vala-0.20 in raring

2013-04-05 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Public bug reported:

That's the current upstream stable serie and it could be useful for
people using Ubuntu as a developpement platform (we got some requests to
have the new version available in raring).

Some data points:
- the different vala series are co-installable so adding the current version
(0.20) shouldn't break anything
- the upload is targetted to universe
- we don't plan to rebuild any source in Ubuntu with it for raring, it's just
for developers who need it

[Bug 1077205] Re: update-manager should have a view that shows the changelogs together for all changes that that will be applied

2013-04-05 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
** Changed in: update-manager (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => In Progress

** Description changed:

Currently if a user wants to see the details in update-manager about the
updates that are to be applied, they have to click on each individual
package in the list. This is tedious and not scalable. Particularly
for folks tracking the devel series and doing daily testing, it would be
useful to have a way to get a view of all the changes at once.

This would need design work first to decide how to integrate it into the
- UI.
+ UI. See also bug 672236.

2013-04-05 Thread Phillip Susi
mdadm volumes can be shared between multiple linux installs no
differently than regular disk partitions. When installing to a
fakeraid, you must install grub to the raid device, which in your case
is /dev/mapper/pdc_chdhbbcagj, rather than an individual disk ( /dev/sda

[Bug 1163764] Re: BrowseAllow required in cups-browsed.conf for CUPS browsing

2013-04-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package cups-filters - 1.0.33-0ubuntu1

---
cups-filters (1.0.33-0ubuntu1) raring; urgency=low

  * New upstream bug fix release
 - cups-browsed: Added NULL check (Upstream bug #1106).

cups-filters (1.0.32-1) experimental; urgency=low

  * New upstream bug fix release
 - cups-browsed: Shared algorithm to generate local queues based on
browsed remote queue data between Bonjour and CUPS browsing, as the
simpler method used for CUPS browsing could overwrite local print
queues and had de-duplication problems, for example if the server
appears on two IPs in the network (connected by both ethernet and
   WLAN).
 - cups-browsed: CUPS broadcasting also broadcasted non-shared,
especially cups-browsed-generated printers. Switched to detection
of non-shared printers by the appropriate bit in the printer-type
   bit field IPP attribute.
 - cups-browsed: Made CUPS broadcasting work also without BrowseAllow
lines in cups-browsed.conf. In this case we accept all remote
   printers (LP: #1163764).
 - README: Updated documentation for cups-browsed.
 - Added more comments and examples to /etc/cups/cups-browsed.conf.
 - cups-browsed: Added support for "...:" extensions of
BrowsePoll addresses. Thanks to Tim Waugh from Red Hat
   (LP: #1159213).

  [ Till Kamppeter ]
  * Let cups-browsed overtake browsing-related directives from
/etc/cups/cupsd.conf into /etc/cups/cups-browsed.conf. Comment out
directives which introduce CUPS broadcasting/browsing so that users
use this deprecated method only if absolutely necessary. Add
comments to tell the user about how to use the added lines.
(LP: #1159213)

  [ Didier Raboud ]
  * Use the new fonts-freefont-ttf package name
  * Add simple cups-browsed init script (Closes: #700929)

[Bug 1161423] Re: Removing a webapp from the software center doesn't remove its shortcut from the dash

2013-04-05 Thread Rodney Dawes
Removed software-center from affects list as it has nothing to do with
this. Marked as incomplete as 2 people have stated it works as expected.

If you've got the .desktop file for the app in ~/.local/share/icons/
then it was not added there by a package. But was added by selecting to
add the integration when visiting the site in Firefox or Chromium.
Packages should not and cannot touch files in user directories, only
system files. You will need to remove any per-user configuration on your
own.

** No longer affects: software-center

[Bug 1159213] Re: cups server connection worked nicely under 12.10 but fails on 13.04

2013-04-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package cups-filters - 1.0.33-0ubuntu1

---
cups-filters (1.0.33-0ubuntu1) raring; urgency=low

  * New upstream bug fix release
 - cups-browsed: Added NULL check (Upstream bug #1106).

cups-filters (1.0.32-1) experimental; urgency=low

  * New upstream bug fix release
 - cups-browsed: Shared algorithm to generate local queues based on
browsed remote queue data between Bonjour and CUPS browsing, as the
simpler method used for CUPS browsing could overwrite local print
queues and had de-duplication problems, for example if the server
appears on two IPs in the network (connected by both ethernet and
   WLAN).
 - cups-browsed: CUPS broadcasting also broadcasted non-shared,
especially cups-browsed-generated printers. Switched to detection
of non-shared printers by the appropriate bit in the printer-type
   bit field IPP attribute.
 - cups-browsed: Made CUPS broadcasting work also without BrowseAllow
lines in cups-browsed.conf. In this case we accept all remote
   printers (LP: #1163764).
 - README: Updated documentation for cups-browsed.
 - Added more comments and examples to /etc/cups/cups-browsed.conf.
 - cups-browsed: Added support for "...:" extensions of
BrowsePoll addresses. Thanks to Tim Waugh from Red Hat
   (LP: #1159213).

  [ Till Kamppeter ]
  * Let cups-browsed overtake browsing-related directives from
/etc/cups/cupsd.conf into /etc/cups/cups-browsed.conf. Comment out
directives which introduce CUPS broadcasting/browsing so that users
use this deprecated method only if absolutely necessary. Add
comments to tell the user about how to use the added lines.
(LP: #1159213)

  [ Didier Raboud ]
  * Use the new fonts-freefont-ttf package name
  * Add simple cups-browsed init script (Closes: #700929)

2013-04-05 Thread Phillip Susi
I'm not sure why apport filed this under grub-installer since it appears
to have worked fine. The logs look like ubiquity was trying to do a
mass apt install rather than it's normal process of copying the live
system to the drive, and this failed due to broken/held packages.
Reassigning to ubiquity.

(Since you have an environment set up to build the python-pycurl package
from source, it occurred to me to wonder:) How difficult would it be for
you to try building the package (without the workaround patch) against
libssl instead of libgnutls? That might be a fairly-easy way to test the
hypothesis that libgnutls is the underlying source of the problem...

[Bug 1098216] Re: Regression in brightness control on Lenovo Thinkpad X230 and X1 Carbon

2013-04-05 Thread Seth Forshee
Nathaniel: You did try to change the brightness before collecting dmesg,
and it did not change the brightness? I'm not seeing the errors I
expected, though I'm confident they should occur because they happen
when I load your ACPI tables into a debugger.

Maybe try poking some brightness values into the driver directly and see
if you get any new messages at the bottom of dmesg. To do this, you'll
first want to run 'cat /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/max_brightness'.
This should output something like 101; if you get something much lower
than that (like 15) then you still have acpi_osi="!Windows 2012" applied
somehow.

Valid brightness values are anything from 0 to the value you get from
the cat command. You set a value by running 'echo n >
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness' as root, where n is a valid
brightness value. Just be careful of going too low, you still want to be
able to read the screen!

[Bug 1165014] [NEW] libsdl1.2-dev:i386 cannot be installed on 64-bit systems

2013-04-05 Thread Colsta
Public bug reported:

Platform:
Ubuntu Precise 12.04.2 LTS 3.2.0-39-generic #62-Ubuntu SMP Thu Feb 28 00:28:53
UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Reference:
I also refer you to bug #1068374 which is very similar in behaviour.

Behaviour:
When I try to bring in libsdl1.2-dev:i386, apt wants to uninstall half my
system!

Expectation:
I would expect the library to be installed seamlessly along with the other i386
libraries I had already obtained.

Detail:
I was in the throes of installing Neverwinter Nights game natively under linux
using instructions found on "http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=113259";
and on
"http://social.bioware.com/forum/Neverwinter-Nights-1/NwN-1-Technical-Support-Self-help-for-all-versions-and-expansions/nwmouse-and-friends-64bit-linux-5212955-1.html";.

I wanted this package to cross-compile the nwmouse.so component to assist with
the installation of a hardware mouse within the game.

Additional:
Using the instructions for further information requested in bug #1068374 I've
already attached the output for further analysis.

Ok, this bug is even worse than previously thought, I can't open Libre
office because of this.

ls: error initializing month strings
/usr/bin/libreoffice: 49: cd: can't cd to lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 34
../lib/libreoffice/program
/usr/bin/libreoffice: 156: exec: /usr/bin/oosplash: not found

[Bug 1077205] Re: update-manager should have a view that shows the changelogs together for all changes that that will be applied

2013-04-05 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Thanks for the suggestion, Steve. Specification updated.

** Changed in: update-manager (Ubuntu)
   Status: In Progress => Triaged

- This would need design work first to decide how to integrate it into the
- UI. See also bug 672236.
+ : "The contents of the
+ “Technical description” pane should depend on how many updates are
+ selected in the list above: ... If more than one, the name and version
+ (but not the description) of each selected package, each followed by a
+ spinner which is replaced by the changelog for the update once it loads
+ (or “The list of changes is not available.” if it fails to load), and
+ each separated by a horizontal rule."
+
+ See also bug 672236.

[Bug 1165027] [NEW] Indicator-sound Hibernate/Suspend capabilities are inconsistent with unity dialogue

[Bug 982383] Re: Per-user language setting does not work

Hi Fabio!

I don't think you have the same problem as Rob. You probably have 'the
likewise problem', which you can read about in bug 1162836.

Since you use likewise-open, it would be valuable if you could add your
observations to that bug. Especially, can you please show us (at bug
1162836) the output of

  cat /etc/pam.d/common-session

[Bug 884181] Re: Running gdb causes "alignment check: 0000" error on 64-bit EC2 t1.micro instances

2013-04-05 Thread Cesar A. Longoria II
Well, for any running into this same issue with the unexplainable kernel
spew, I've found a way around it. It seems if a fork sleeps for >= 1
microsecond (0.01 seconds) immediately after creation, all proceeds
normally (this value may vary). Any less, and it vomits. This would
appear to have something to do with the EC2 hypervisor's inner workings,
at the hardware or kernel level methinks.
