[Bug 900795] Re: Intel driver reports hung GPU und disables acceleration

2013-11-25 Thread Rüdiger Kupper
Christopher,
my original bug report was with the oneiric version of Ubuntu. Since then,
things have much approved with intel i915 graphics. They are, how ever, far
from good, even with the saucy release.

This is the network for a German school with approx. 700 users. We have
eight LTSP servers and all identical clients. Those clients are Pentium
IV machines with onboard intel graphics. They *all* suffer from the
intel graphics problems, which persist since I began my duty at this
school, which was with the jaunty release. Since then, intel graphics
have *never* worked, and they continue not to work until today (since
4,5 years!): Intel graphics on Ubuntu with remote X is a constant
source of concern.

To clarify my setting: I run Edubuntu 13.10 on a number of LTSP clients. This
means *the X client is remote* -- a thing that X was explicitly designed for.
Actually this is the only reason that there is X: Running low-power terminals
on a high-power server.
This should work like hell. But: It doesn't. Not at all.

- There is no hardware acceleration with my Intel clients with remote X
- graphics lock up at unpredictable times
- graphics reproducibly fail on certain applications
- I cannot even log in with Unity or the gnome-flashback-compiz session

In short: remote X does not work with intel clients in any other mode
but VGA mode. This mode makes my P-IV-clients react and look like
rubbish. And that's about the impression that my students get from
Ubuntu at my school. Sorry for telling you the truth: Ubuntu makes for a
very bad experience on distributed, older hardware. When I began my
career, I learned that this was Linux's original domain: low-power
hardware in distributed networks. Looks this is no longer true.

I will go and test the current release and current kernel and help
wherever I can. However, I cannot understand how a chipset that is
around for many years now and built onto a relevant number of mainboards
is still not working in Ubuntu -- the distribution that prides itself in
supporting the most hardware.

[Bug 1243904] Re: Internal keyboard doesn't work in 13.10

2013-11-25 Thread Dave Gilbert
Joonas: Thanks for doing that, technically by the ubuntu lp rules we
should have a separate bug for your separate failure on different
hardware - but I agree it's probably the same problem, so create the bug
anyway, and add a comment giving this bug number, and also add a comment
here giving the bug number of the new one you create.

[Bug 1254824] [NEW] qemu-sh4-static: segmentation fault during debootstrap second stage on amd64 but not i386

2013-11-25 Thread Ken Sharp
Public bug reported:

Host: Ubuntu Precise amd64
Guest: Debian Sid (ports) sh4

While running a debootstrap for a Debian Sid sh4 guest, the process
stops when attempting to run the second stage with a Segmentation Fault.

# qemu-debootstrap --no-check-gpg --arch=sh4 sid sh4
http://ftp.debian-ports.org/debian
I: Running command: debootstrap --arch sh4 --foreign --no-check-gpg sid sh4
http://ftp.debian-ports.org/debian
[...]
I: Running command: chroot sh4 /debootstrap/debootstrap --second-stage
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Running chroot sh4 starts a shell and running a command that requires
a fork successfully completes but then the whole thing stops responding
and has to be kill -9ed.

The exact same process on Precise i386 works fine (it fails much later
on but is probably unrelated).

[Bug 1254825] [NEW] Sync stressapptest 1.0.6-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2013-11-25 Thread Roy Jamison
Public bug reported:

Please sync stressapptest 1.0.6-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * Fix armhf support patch to look for arm instead of armv7l,
since configure is looking at the triplet, not uname output.
  * debian/patches/armv7.patch: Fix patch to apply to configure script.
  * debian/patches/armv7.patch: Look for armv7l instead of armv7a
to fix FTBFS on armel.

All Ubuntu changes have been fixed upstream

Changelog entries since current trusty version 1.0.4-2ubuntu1:

stressapptest (1.0.6-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * Merging upstream version 1.0.6. (Closes: #728696)
  * Fix armhf support patch. (Closes: #728695)

stressapptest (1.0.4-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * Adopt package. (Closes: #728288)
  * Update to debhelper 9.
  * Use dh-autoreconf.

[Bug 1254447] Re: Upgrade to 13.30 crashes because of hidden file

How did you determine that it was the undo file causing the issue? I
tried to recreate this with apt-clone (which is used by the release
upgrader to save information about the system state) after having made a
vim undo file in my /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ folder. Running apt-clone
clone I was able to create a clone file and did not receive a crash with
the undo file. Do any of your other sources files have unicode in them?

2013-11-25 Thread Adam Gandelman
Can someone please capture how this bug affects the Ubunty python-
keystoneclient package and how to reproduce with whats in the archive
(saucy or trusty)? The original trace appears to implicate non-Ubuntu
stuff installed by devstack (pip installed python-keyring, devstack
installed python-keystoneclient). This looks more like a python-keyring
or devstack issue?

[Bug 1254832] [NEW] Missing options for ltsp-update-image

2013-11-25 Thread Roland Giesler
Public bug reported:

The source for this script shows the following options are recognised,
yet they are not all documented in the man page.

-a, --arch Architecture of this image. Default is arch of the host.
-b, --base Base of ltsp chroot. Default is /opt/ltsp if unspecified.
-d, --tftpbootdir Subdir within tftpdir where ltsp kernels are. Defaults
  to ltsp.
-e, --exclude-dirs Exclude those dirs from the image.
-f, --force Force recalculating ports for all chroots, update of all
kernels, fresh pxelinux.cfg files and restart nbd-server.
  -h, --help This message.
-i, --image-onlyUpdate image only and do not attempt to adjust ports or
  services.
-I, --ipappend Pass IPAPPEND value to bootloader.
-n, --no-comp Do not compress the image.
-o, --options Pass kernel command line options to all config files.
-O, --openbsd-inetd Use old inetd method instead of named NBD exports.
-p, --port Port you wish this nbd image to communicate on. Default
  is 2000.
-s, --skip-imageDo not generate an image, but perform other actions.
-S, --serverSpecify the NBD server IP.
-T, --timeout Add timeout to bootloader.

I'd add them, but don't have editing rights there. Could this be
corrected?

[Bug 1253997] Re: WiFi randomly disconnects

2013-11-25 Thread Massimo Cesaro
Update. I had to remove v3.12 trusty kernel. The system becomes quite unusable.
So far, only v3.11.0-12 is usable for more than 1 hour.
There is something definitely wrong in the rt3290 support.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-11-25 Thread Vladimir Rutsky
William,

I installed all packages from PPA mentioned in description (ppa:attente
/modifier-only-input-switch). Setting alt+shift and ctrl+shift works
as before, and also I'm able to set right alt (Alt R) as layout
switching shortcut (with gsettings set org.compiz.integrated show-hud
['Alt_L'])

But now layout switching is somehow slow: after pressing Alt R or
ctrl+shift I'm able to enter 3-4 characters in old layout before
layout actually switches. This is major issue for fast text entering
using two layouts.

[Bug 1228977] Re: n-cpu seems to crash when running with libvirt 1.0.6 from ubuntu cloud archive

2013-11-25 Thread Jeremy Stanley
Probably--I wasn't collecting logs, just confirming whether or not
gating is going to break if we reenable UCA. If nobody with nova
debugging experience or interest in using UCA/newer libvirt has time to
repeat that experiment, I can recreate it and find/attach the service
logs some time in the next few days.

The help output and the man page you're talking about refer to a very old LTSP

It doesn't work, but with

[Bug 1252900] Re: Directional network performance issues with Neutron + OpenvSwitch

2013-11-25 Thread Darragh O'Reilly
Hi Thiago,

from the tcpdump I see some packets are not being received and have to
be retransmitted. Also some packets are much greater than 1500 bytes,
but it seems only about 1500 are ACKed, which results in retransmissions
too.

Can you provide the output of 'ethtool -k ethX' where ethX is the one in
br-ex. And if any offload stuff is on, disable it and retest.

Can you tell us how your Neutron router is uplinked to the Internet? It
seems 189.8.93.65 is the gateway_ip for the neutron external subnet.
What kind of device is this? It's mac is 52:54:00:6a:5f:82, which seems
to have a vendor prefix used by KVM.

Darragh.

[Bug 1252266] Re: Corrupted low memory after resume from suspend after updating to saucy

2013-11-25 Thread Joseph Salisbury
I started a bisect between 3.11-rc2 and 3.11-rc3 The kernel bisect will
require testing of about 7-10 test kernels. This will be the first of
two bisects. We'll perform this bisect to identify the fix to allow
your system to suspend. Once we have that, we can then see if the
original bug was introduced in rc1 or rc2, then start the second bisect.

I built the first test kernel, up to the following commit:
c7dad2343f494359f6e45f62ff97055749b99670

The test kernel can be downloaded from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1252266

Can you test that kernel and report back if it has the bug or not. I
will build the next test kernel based on your test results.

Thanks in advance

Re: [Bug 1072010] Re: With every software upgrade - error setting up Citrix ICAClient

Hi tachyon,

I managed to solve my problem following the instructions in this thread:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2181903

I hope this helps you, too!

I still get an error message at some point every time I log on using the
Citrix client, but at least it is fully functional for my purposes.

Be sure to follow the instructions to the letter. I have done this three
times and one of the three times I deviated slightly from the
instructions and it did not work.

Good luck!

Best regards,
Ari Börde Kröyer

[Bug 1254839] [NEW] Difficulty setting the timezone since it's before setting the keyboard layout

2013-11-25 Thread Bruno Bigras
Public bug reported:

Since I choose French, the keyboard layout is in AZERTY (we use QWERTY
(fr-ca) where I live) at the time zone config step. I can only change
the keyboard layout after I set the timezone.

It's no big deal for me but grandma would be confused when she write
Montréal and see ,ontr!ql.

I would suggest putting the keyboard layout setting page before the time
zone one.

[Bug 1254832] Re: Missing options for ltsp-update-image

2013-11-25 Thread Roland Giesler
It may be old, but the manpage has version for each release. On 12.04
(which is the latest LTS version), the options exist in the source but
not in the manpage. Adding this in will save people losts of time at
least.

Therefor I don't think this should be invalid, at least not for the
12.04 manpage.

[Bug 1245147] Re: Ubuntu 13.10 does not boot from USB stick 3.0

2013-11-25 Thread Luigi R.
This is the output of the script concerning Ubuntu 13.10 installed on
the USB 3.0 as classical installation.

What look strange to me is that grub is not located at the first sector
of the /sdb device. Is that normal?

Why is not possible anymore to install the /boot partition in fat32?

Thanks

I really would love to use new kernel updates, and keep my computer and system
running linux incase any security breaches arise within the older kernels.

[Bug 1254851] [NEW] qpdfview renders black pages after poppler update

2013-11-25 Thread steve
Public bug reported:

qpdfview was working fine in 13.10, then I did an apt-get dist-upgrade
qpdfview only renders black pages now. Suspect poppler library upgrade is the
cause.

** Affects: systemd-shim (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1254133] Re: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 139

2013-11-25 Thread mmm
Hi, I guess it is connected to this issue (the automated wizard packed there
some files wich may be useful also here?, otherwise i will get to that machine
again next weekend):
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python2.7/+bug/1254135

which appeared few minutes lter. The result was that the distribution
did not boot into the graphics environment. I had to let the packages
configure from command line as the installation process did not finish
it properly. After the manual finish of installation I can use the
system again with graphical interface.

[Bug 578045] Re: Upgrading packaged Ubuntu application unreasonably involves upgrading entire OS

2013-11-25 Thread Rodney Dawes
This has nothing to do with software-center itself. The only way you are
going to make this better is to get the upstreams to do the requisite
packaging work and make the packages available as updates through
software-center by publishing them via the web site for managing one's
applications published to Ubuntu. It is easier to upgrade individual
applications on those proprietary OSes, because the developers are
taking the time to publish those packages through the Apple store, or
Google Play, or similar means.

The developers who put together the Ubuntu release every 6 months
understand the frustrations with this, but bug reports are not a channel
for dumping complaints. If there are specific applications that fall
into this category of not being up to date enough on the version of
Ubuntu you are using, as shipped in that version of Ubuntu, then you
should ask the developers of those applications to help by doing the
packaging work to get the app published through the Software Center; in
the same way that they are doing that work to publish their apps in the
Apple store.

** Package changed: software-center (Ubuntu) = ubuntu
