[Bug 1266461] Re: El Torito boot image corrupted by truncation
The professionally mastered images I am working with are 4096 bytes in size consisting of 8 x 512-bytes sectors. The bug is that ISO master assumes all boot sectors are 2048 bytes (4 sectors) and has hard-coded the sector-count value: /** * writeElToritoBootCatalog() * Write the el torito boot catalog (validation entry and inital/default entry). * Returns the offset where the boot record sector number should * be written (7.3.1). * */ int writeElToritoBootCatalog(VolInfo* volInfo, bk_off_t* bootRecordSectorNumberOffset) ... /* sector count. i have yet to see a boot record with a sector count * that's not 4 */ write721ToByteArray(&(buffer[38]), 4); Here's the before and after results of simply cloning an 8-sector bootable image: $ geteltorito en_windows_7_professional_with_sp1_x64_dvd_u_676939.iso >/dev/null Booting catalog starts at sector: 22 Manufacturer of CD: Microsoft Corporation Image architecture: x86 Boot media type is: no emulation El Torito image starts at sector 734 and has 8 sector(s) of 512 Bytes Image has been written to stdout $ isomaster mangling opening 'en_windows_7_professional_with_sp1_x64_dvd_u_676939.2.iso' for writing writing blank at 0 writing terminator at 9800 sorting 9660 writing primary directory tree at C000 sorting joliet writing supplementary directory tree at C800 writing 9660 path tables at D000 writing joliet path tables at E000 writing files at F000 writing long NMs at F800 writing pvd at 8000 writing svd at 9000 freeing memory Quitting $ geteltorito en_windows_7_professional_with_sp1_x64_dvd_u_676939.2.iso >/dev/null Booting catalog starts at sector: 20 Manufacturer of CD: Edited with ISO Master Image architecture: x86 Boot media type is: no emulation El Torito image starts at sector 21 and has 4 sector(s) of 512 Bytes Image has been written to stdout I am working on a patch. ** Changed in: isomaster (Ubuntu) Status: New => In Progress ** Changed in: isomaster (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => High ** Changed in: isomaster (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => TJ (tj) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1266461 Title: El Torito boot image corrupted by truncation To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/isomaster/+bug/1266461/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 837196] Re: Cannot change bluetooth name
No, it actually means there is nothing to fix I just have missed the updates to the bug. It's invalid according to GNOME because there is a way to change the system hostname via System Information in the control panel: http://www.hadess.net/2011/06/pretty-oh-so-pretty.html As expressed above, there is also a way to change this in bluez itself, so there is effectively no bug in BlueZ -- as such I'll mark the Bluez task as Invalid (there is no bug there), and the gnome-bluetooth task as Won't Fix (we won't change how it is, and there is an alternative method recommended by GNOME already) ** Changed in: gnome-bluetooth (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Won't Fix ** Changed in: bluez (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/837196 Title: Cannot change bluetooth name To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-bluetooth/+bug/837196/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The fact that I found a work around involving changing which USB port I plugged a mouse into doesn't actually fix the underlying software bug. [Bug 1222021] Re: xfce4-power-manager does not inhibit systemd from handling buttons and lid events
Torsten, besides telling the power manager to "Lock screen when going for suspend/hibernate" in its settings, you have to install xscreensaver package, add "xscreensaver -nosplash" as an autostarted application in LXDE settings. (You can test, if autostart worked by running command "pidof xscreensaver" in terminal after logging in: it displays a number, if xscreensaver is running.) If you additionally want lxlock to be able to use xscreensaver (and to fix Bug #1205384) , you could do this in terminal (as superuser): sudo wget --output-document=/usr/local/bin/lxlock http://bug-attachment.xfce.org/attachment.cgi?id=5295 && sudo chmod a+x /usr/local/bin/lxlock If you later want to revert back to official lxlock, just delete the downloaded file /usr/local/bin/lxlock -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1222021 Title: xfce4-power-manager does not inhibit systemd from handling buttons and lid events To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xfce4-power-manager/+bug/1222021/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1262204] Re: tomact7 installation is confusing the user with home-directy. Tomcat is saying "directory will not be created"
Thank you for taking the time to file this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The message "Not creating home directory" is just a consequence of the package postinst using the --no-create-home option to adduser as /usr/share/tomcat7 is provided by packaging. I don't believe that there is any problem with doing this. Do you have a specific problem here apart from the misleading message? Assuming that you're reporting just the misleading message, the best way forward would be to verify that the message is also misleading in tomcat7 in Debian, and then to file a bug there, as Ubuntu is unlikely to diverge from Debian for such a trivial bug. ** Changed in: tomcat7 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1262204 Title: tomact7 installation is confusing the user with home-directy. [Bug 1265987] Re: package samba4 4.0.3+dfsg1-0.1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subproces installed post-installation script gaf een foutwaarde 255 terug
Thank you for your report. This looks like a local configuration problem, rather than a bug in Ubuntu. Specifically: ''WIMPAUWELSLAPTOP'' is not a valid NetBIOS name You can find pointers to get help for this sort of problem here: http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community Since we use this bug tracker to track bugs in Ubuntu, rather than configuration problems, I'm marking this bug as Invalid. This helps us to focus on fixing bugs in Ubuntu. If you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem, explain why you believe this is a bug rather than a problem specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New. ** Changed in: samba4 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1265987 Title: package samba4 4.0.3+dfsg1-0.1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subproces installed post-installation script gaf een foutwaarde 255 terug To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba4/+bug/1265987/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1111950] Re: Ubiquity should be able to install both grub-pc and grub-efi when needed
I also need these packages to be able to install concurrently. I need grub-efi installed because my laptop uses it to boot, but I often use a usb thumb drive on other systems to boot and use multisystem to create this. It is most convenient to do this on my laptop, but multisystem depends on grub-pc, which it uses on the thumb drive. To workaround this, I currently have to uninstall grub-efi, install grub-pc, then multisystem, then uninstall multisystem and install grub-efi again. It is bound to screw me up one of these days when I forget and try to boot with the wrong grub updated! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/950 Title: Ubiquity should be able to install both grub-pc and grub-efi when needed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/950/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1165104] Re: oneconf is only showing the pc you are on in raring and isn't sharing to other machines
Ok. Steps to test the patched oneconf in Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy: 1. If you haven't enabled software sync yet, do it first: open Ubuntu Software Center (USC) and choose "File > Sync Between Computers" in the menu (you'll be prompted for your Ubuntu One credentials if sync wasn't enabled yet). Then close USC. 2. Download the patched oneconf code from http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~brunonova/oneconf/lp1165104/tarball/275?start_revid=275 , then extract it (it's an archive; this link was not very easy to find). 3. Open a terminal inside the extracted oneconf source directory (the folder "lp1165104", containing several folders and files like "oneconf- service"). 4. Start the oneconf-service with the command "./oneconf-service --debug", and watch the debug messages. If it reports that oneconf is already running, execute "oneconf-query --stop" then run the previous command again. Keep an eye out for WARNING and ERROR messages, and messages like "credential not found". The "Error in loading other_hosts file" warning is perfectly fine if this is the first sync. 5. Wait for the sync to finish (wait for half a minute or so). Then open USC, go to the installed software "tab" (or "File > Sync Between Computers"). See if USC "says" something like "Last sync DATE/TIME" at the bottom (below the list of computers). If yes, then it seems the software list was successfully synced to the server. Then close USC. --- Repeat the previous steps in another computer(s) (you can use Virtualbox as another computer). --- 6. Now to see if the software list is synced between computers (through the server). Stop the oneconf-service ("oneconf-query --stop") in both computers. Then start it again ("./oneconf-service --debug") in one computer. After the sync finishes, do the same for the other computer. Then open USC in both computers and go to the installed software "tab". Check if all computers are listed and if, when you select another computer, if USC displays the differences between the computers (what is installed in both/what is only installed in one/what is only installed in the other). If yes, it works! If not, repeat this step one or two more times. Also, the synced data is stored in the directory "~/.cache/oneconf/RANDOM_NAME". The files "other_hosts" and "package_list_*" are of particular interest. If you want to clear the oneconf cache (and start from fresh), delete (or move) the RANDOM_NAME directory. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1165104 Title: oneconf is only showing the pc you are on in raring and isn't sharing to other machines To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+bug/1165104/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
