[Bug 1306769] Re: pinlock snap decision potentially allows malicious app to gain access to user PIN and Passcode

2014-09-15 Thread Jamie Strandboge
I am going to mark this as incomplete. Antii says Currently the
pinlock dialog is implemented as snapdecision and thus any application
that is allowed to use the notifications can potentially trick the user
to provide his PIN code or Passcode to the application by invoking the
pinlock dialog. However, AppArmor policy explicitly disables the
snapdecisions interface and there is no code or described methodology
describing the problem so I can't determine if this is mere concern that
there might be a problem or that there is an actual problem.

Redirecting the output to a file will cause the same result as redirecting it

  de_CH.UTF-8... done
  de_DE.UTF-8... done
  de_LI.UTF-8... done

[Bug 1308154] Re: wxmaxima 13.04.2-2 fails to get some keyboard inputs

2014-09-15 Thread Romano Giannetti
I edited the description following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates --- could someone with a
bit more time than myself nominate it with the StableReleaseUpdate team?
Instructions in the wiki link above.

** Description changed:

+
With 13.04.2-2 (at the moment in proposed repos), wxmaxima does not do
something with some special inputs like Ctrl-C Ctrl-V [ ] and maybe some
other ones I did not try... Maybe the upgrading to libwx 3.0.0 by this
version of wxmaxima causes that ?
+
+ [impact]

It is a critical bug against wxmaxima's new proposed version since
brackets (e.g.) are essential to maxima language.

Previous version does work fine. (FYI the new one allows to copy/paste
with mouse middle button : this is definitely great, but...)
+
+ wxmaxima in Utopic (13.04.2-4) fixes the problem, and simply installing
+
http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/w/wxmaxima/wxmaxima_13.04.2-4_amd64.deb
on top of current Trusty version fixes it too.
+
+ [test case]
+
+ Open wxmaxima on a computer with a keyboard without direct [ or ] keys,
+ like Spanish keyboard.
+
+ Type : a[0]
+
+ Expected result: a[0]
+
+ Result: a0
+
+ --- brackets are not read by wxmaxima.
+
+ [Regression potential]
+
+ Very low.
+
+ 1. It works in Utopic.
+ 2. As it is, wxmaxima is completely useless unless you have a US keyboard.

[Bug 1369604] [NEW] Display not updated when shift-selecting with autorepeat

2014-09-15 Thread Patrick Smears
Public bug reported:

When using shift selection mode (i.e. shift-select-mode set to 't'), if I hold
down shift and an arrow key to select a long range (in any direction), the
display only updates to show the selection for the first keypress, and after
that does not update to reflect the selection until the arrow key is released.
This makes selecting by keyboard very hard as it's impossible to tell how much
has been selected.

Though this sounds like the behavior expected when 'redisplay-dont-
pause' is nil, that variable is set to 't' (and changing it has no
effect).

This does not happen with other text editors (e.g. gnome-text-editor),
and did not happen prior to upgrading (from Precise/emacs21).

The X server is Xming 7.5.0.62 on Windows .

[Bug 1362520] Re: Desktop preview frequently uses 100% CPU despite no apps running in UI

2014-09-15 Thread Will Cooke
Hi Chris,

This problem seems to have resolved itself! When I logged in to check
the logs etc everything is ticking along as normal.

I'll try and recreate, but if not I'll close this bug as invalid.

Cheers, Will

[Bug 1369457] Re: Can re-order and un-pin launcher items and launch apps while phone is locked

2014-09-15 Thread James Hunt
Ah thanks - didn't know about those options! Disabled both now :-)

The use case for launching apps from the lockscreen is that as a user, you
think oh I want to go to facebook,
click facebook, we start the app in the background so that once you enter
your passcode, it's sitting there ready.
Again, Design and Security have already talked about this feature and were
planning to leave it as is.
Please let's not have a title-editing fight over this.

The fact that I raised this bug demonstrates that I was not aware of
these discussions. Personally, I cannot see a huge benefit in allowing
this behaviour. Maybe if a particular app is very slow to start and/or
if a user has a particularly long pass-phrase this could be marginally
useful?

But to counter that, what if you have an app that sucks down huge
amounts of data on startup and a nefarious user starts the app without
your knowledge when you happen to put your phone down for a minute? That
would be more than a little annoying if 3G charges applied. It could be
argued that the risk of that scenario playing out is small, but
nevertheless the potential is there.

The use case for re-ordering apps is *likely to be* (Design hasn't actually
chimed in) that the person doing the
re-ordering is overwhelmingly likely to be the owner, rather than some
malicious attacker that just loves to re-order
 your icons.
Again, I personally don't see that feature as particularly compelling, hence
I've turned it off :)

If these features are perceived as generally useful are we planning on
introducing them to desktop Ubuntu?

Regardless of whether we decide to leave these features as enabled or
not, maybe we should ensure they form part of the initial setup wizard?

[Bug 1369615] [NEW] FFe - Update python-geoip to 1.3.2, Add python3 support

2014-09-15 Thread Scott Kitterman
Public bug reported:

state the reason why you feel it is necessary

The current package is 5 years out of date and has neither support for
IPv6 nor bindings for python3. I've just uploaded the current version
to Debian (due to the addition of python3-geoip, it will hit New there).

This is a low risk update as the changes to existing code are almost
entirely either white space or addition of if/defs for python3 support.
There is little chance of regression. It would be really nice to get
this into Utopic (and I want to backport to Trusty ASAP for a project
I'm working on). The update also switches from CDBS to dh, so progress
on that front too. I did drop the -dbg package as it's not in Debian
and it seems redundant since we have the -dbgsym packages in Ubuntu.

There is no upstream changelog. Package builds, installs, and works (I
experimented with the subset of tests for which we have data and they
pass).

If this gets approved before the update makes it out of Debian New, I'll
do a direct upload.

The reason for rtm being old is that we have a silo (line 14 in the

[Bug 1369457] Re: Can re-order and un-pin launcher items and launch apps while phone is locked

2014-09-15 Thread Michael Terry
Again, I'll let Design chime in properly, but my understanding is that
just because the phone UI is one way, doesn't necessarily imply we want
the desktop to act the same. There are some fundamentally different use
cases (phone is overwhelmingly owned and operated by one person, always
on you, etc).

But yeah, let's wait on Design.

Did you already request a backport, according to

The wiki says everyone could request a backport. Since Trusty is a LTS version
it would be more than suitable.

[Bug 1358343] Re: don't turn on screen on notifications if proximity sensor triggered

2014-09-15 Thread Ricardo Salveti
I'd like to avoid using the proximity sensor for anything in here, as
that might easily cause us a bunch of bad side effects (as anything on
top of the sensor would trigger this use case, not only inside the
pocket).

So I'd like to push for the swipe gesture instead, and if indeed not
possible, we can try hacking powerd to not turn on the screen in some
special cases.

[Bug 1369633] [NEW] 4k laptop eDP display not working on a dell precision m3800

2014-09-15 Thread Robert Hooker
Public bug reported:

Impact: Some new laptops with 4k screens are starting to use dp 1.2 only
feature of supporting 5.4ghz link rates over displayport which was not
turned on until 3.15 even though the plumbing for it was (mostly) there.
This should only make more devices work since it has to advertise
support for the feature in the dpcd. previously dp 1.2 screens which
needed 5.4ghz link rates were forced to use 2.7ghz instead, which would
not provide enough bandwidth for some high resolution/high bandwidth
screens. It only affects haswell for trusty, broadwell is handled
through i915_bdw module which already as this fix and the fix was
upstream in 3.15-rc1 so utopic is unaffected.

Fix: Allow the 5.4ghz link rate over displayport.

This has been tested on an affected OEM laptop with a 4K display that
requires 5.4ghz link rate to light up (without it the display never
turns on) as well as 2 other haswell machines to be sure it doesn't
regress.

[Bug 1369632] [NEW] After disconnecting and reconnecting device to MTP host it is not possible to delete a folder using MTP

2014-09-15 Thread Richard Huddie
Public bug reported:

ENVIRONMENT:
Device: ubuntu-rtm/14.09-proposed build 40
Desktop: Windows 8.1 / Ubuntu

SUMMARY:
After disconnecting and reconnecting device to MTP host it is not possible to
delete a folder using MTP

STEPS:
1) Connect Ubuntu device to host PC over USB
2) Copy some music content to the music folder on MTP device including some
folder structure
3) Eject the Ubuntu device's USB connection
4) Re-insert Ubuntu device USB
5) Browse to MTP Music folder on device
6) Try to delete some of the music folders that were just added

EXPECTED RESULT:

The content should be deleted successfully.

ACTUAL RESULT:

After a delay of about 30 seconds Ubuntu presents error:
libmtp error: could not delete object.
It is then not possible to copy any content to or from the device.

Windows also fails to delete the content with error stating that device
has been disconnected.

Note that it is possible to delete files when the device is re-
connected. It is when deleting a parent folder that the problem occurs.

[Bug 1351092] Re: Configuration of the Droid Sans Fallback font

2014-09-15 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
@Lukas: These issues are about to be fixed now. The solution, which is
about to be uploaded to both trusty and utopic, does not include a split
of the fonts-droid package. Consequently you should uninstall the fonts-
droid-cjk and fonts-droid-general packages from my PPA, to not confuse
your system. You should also remove the ~/.config/fontconfig/conf.d/65
-droid-sans-first.conf (from the bug #1334495 discussion) if you haven't
already.

I can confirm this is an issue with three bluetooth keyboards (Perix,

the distro's default 4.101-0 stack (Mint 17), and the latest 5.23
