[Bug 1567589] [NEW] New qjackctl version breaks OOTB use of pulseaudio-module-jack

2016-04-07 Thread Len Ovens
Public bug reported:

In the past, qjackctl was shipped with Enable D-bus interface enabled.
In the latest version, This option's meaning has changed :P to mean
enable dbus interface to qjackctl rather than the old meaning of use
jackdbus rather than jackd. The new version (April 6 2016) has a new
option "Enable JACK D-Bus interface" which does not seem to be selected
by default. As the ubuntu version of qjackctl already changes setting
from default (48k is default to 44.1k?) setting this option to selected
should be patched as well.

To be as clear as possible. The expected result of starting Jack with
qjackctl is that pulseaudio will automatically load module-jack-sink and
module-jack-source via the module-jackdbus-detect module. This no longer
happens. To restore this the default setting for qjackctl needs to
change to have "Enable JACK D-Bus interface" enabled.

ProblemType: Bug

[Bug 1567591] [NEW] [xenial] unity session does not start

2016-04-07 Thread Alexey Balmashnov
Public bug reported:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu Xenial Xerus (development branch)
Release:16.04

$ apt-cache policy unity
unity:
  Installed: 7.4.0+16.04.20160401.1-0ubuntu1

Yesterday did:
apt update
apt upgrade

A lot of packages were upgraded, have not seen any failures.

Rebooted system, everything seemed to be OK, until I tried to login...
Just got background color and nothing more. No dash, no top panel, no
window decorations.

Today repeated update hoping for better. Nothing changed.

If you have any bright ideas, please help.

FYI, the default actually comes from src:kexec-tools:

cat debian/kexec-tools.grub
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="$GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT crashkernel=384M-:128M"

which, in and of itself, seems odd as if you only install kexec-tools,
you've now reserved some system memory for kdump.

And if you remove/purge kexec-tools, crashkernel= seems to stick around
:)

Putting a unity-panel-service.conf in place as per pastebin works here
to alleviate the issue
(- 2 restarts with file got menus, removed the file & the restart had no

[Bug 1320402] Re: mdadm resyncs imsm raid in "Normal" state

2016-04-07 Thread Stefano Torresi
I am also experiencing this problem when dual booting with Windows 10
and Ubuntu 15.10 , which supposedly has the fix implemented in
/etc/init.d/mdadm-waitidle.

Whenever I reboot the system from one OS to another, even if the raid1
array appears to be in "normal" status in the bios POST, the array gets
re-verified by either mdadm or win intel rapid storage manager tool.

a little more detail on this topic: the references for the loaded project shows

gacutil shows where the packages are, so I'm not sure what's wrong yet.

[Bug 1566657] Re: [apt] implement --yes

2016-04-07 Thread David Kalnischkies
The apt(8) manpage doesn't list any options (okay, it mentions a selected few,
but it has no long list like the other manpages).
It lists only subcommands like 'install' or 'show' and refers the reader to the
manpage of apt-get or apt-cache or whatever for details because repeating the
very same options would not only be a big duplication, but also a freaking long
manpage nobody will ever read AND it will also be confusing because the
hundreds of options in such a manpage would apply each only to a selected few
of the subcommands.

So, yeah, the user will have to read the manpages of the underlying
applications he or she is pointed to be the apt manpages – but given the
potential alternative of lumping all manpages into a single big one,
that feels like a feature.

[Bug 1567589] Re: New qjackctl version breaks OOTB use of pulseaudio-module-jack

2016-04-07 Thread Len Ovens
In older versions of qjackctl, the ability to control qjackctl via dbus
was always on. So having both on would leave things the same as prior
versions. I think Rui added this as a setting for those running it on
minimal systems with no dbus.

[Bug 1532226] Re: A significant number of fresh boots or restarts result in no menus for most apps

2016-04-07 Thread Pilot6
Marco,

The bug has been mystically fixed for me after I added and removed the
~/.config/upstart/unity-panel-service.conf

I made exactly these steps.

1. Added the file from http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/15670770/

2. Made a reboot.

3. Tested the menus. They did not appear.

4. Removed the file.

5. Made a log off. The system logged in without asking a password as
usual. Still no menus.

6. Made a reboot.

7. Manus appeared and not the issue is fixed. The menus always appear
after startup without needing to restart unity or a log off.

That is very weird.

[Bug 1487679] Re: Breaking ordering cycle by deleting job nbd-client.service/start

2016-04-07 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
Hmm. The "2 3 4 5" change doesn't seem to be enough to break the
dependency cycle.

I played a bit to see what could break the cycle but I couldn't find it.
By completely removing /etc/init.d/nbd-client, all is fine.
By putting *just* this minimal header:

# Required-Start: $network

...and removing all the other ones, I'm still getting
> nbd-client.service: Job nbd-client.service/start deleted

[Bug 1567615] [NEW] Trusty update to v3.13.11-ckt38 stable release

2016-04-07 Thread Kamal Mostafa
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The v3.13.11-ckt38 upstream
stable
patch set is now available. It should be included in the Ubuntu
   kernel as well.

   git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/linux.git

TEST CASE: TBD

The following patches from the v3.13.11-ckt38 stable release
shall be applied:

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu Trusty)

[Bug 1567407] Re: [SRU] Update to bugfix release 1.10.14 in Trusty

2016-04-07 Thread Seth Arnold
Since wholesale package upgrades aren't something I've done often, it'd
be something that I'd have to approach with trial-and-error to reach the
finished product.

The short version is along the lines of:

apt-get source wireshark
download upstream wireshark tarball
verify new upstream wireshark tarball against signatures or hashes or by
phoning a developer if they skipped the signature..
rename the tarball to include ".orig" as appropriate
modify the version number in debian/changelog to match new tarball
apply the patches from debian/patches (hopefully quilt push -a)
remove patches that were upstreamed
port patches that were not
build
test

I hope this is a useful guide :)

Thanks

[Bug 1564058] Re: [MIR] liblouisutdml

2016-04-07 Thread Till Kamppeter
Availability:
- Currently in the Ubuntu Universe archive

Rationale:
- Use by the Braille embosser support which got recently added to cups-filters.
There it will be used alternatively to liblouis. In contrary to liblouis it
does not only translate the plain text content of the input files into Braille
but also format and layout information will be expressed in the Braille output.

Security:
- No known CVEs about this package; no SUID/GUID binaries, no binaries in
/usr/sbin/, no daemons or services. no ports opened at all, input and output
only via files and stdin/stdout. The executable file2brl is started as the "lp"
system user of CUPS, not by root.

Quality assurance:
- When the package is installed, the filters for the Braille embosser detect
the presence of file2brl automatically and use it then. - Manual conversion via
direct call of file2brl is also possible.
- Package installation does not ask debconf questions
- No recent bugs reported on this package
- Package is maintained in Debian and regularly updated there. Ubuntu
auto-syncs it.
- Package supports all Braille embossers, so it is a general accessibility
package and not a driver for some rare hardware models.
- Test suite is failing and overridden in debian/rules.
- debian/watch file is present.

UI
- Text mode/command line utility with man page, no GUI

Dependencies
- All build and runtime dependencies are already in Main

Standards compliance
- Claims Debian standards compliance 3.9.7 in debian/control
- Files in the binary packages follow FHS and Debian standards

Maintenance
- Package synced with Debian and regularly updated there. Ubuntu bug contatc is
currently the Ubuntu Printing Team, will probably get moved to accessibility
team.

I hope I'll be able to get the fix into Qt before Xenial release (or in
the worst case as an early SRU). So no need to add the workaround.

[Bug 1567581] [NEW] Surelock GA2 SP1: surelock02p05: Not seeing sgX devices for LUNs after upgrading to Ubuntu 16.04

2016-04-07 Thread bugproxy
Public bug reported:

Not seeing sgX device for LUNs after upgrading to Ubuntu 16.04 -17
kernel

This is probably caused by the following patch added on Ubuntu kernel
4.4.0-17:

- SAUCE: (noup) powerpc/pci: Assign fixed PHB number based on device-tree
properties".

That said, i would like to ask Canonical to revert the SAUCE patch
42a1e725ec14f0ce4d5e5b0fcf6d23260d0dcc08. It has a bad side effect.

[Bug 1567578] [NEW] libnl should be updated to support up to 63 VFs per single PF

2016-04-07 Thread Lorenzo Cavassa
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 14.04.4 and SRIOV settings.

As already documented in https://bugs.launchpad.net/mos/+bug/1501738
there is a bug in the default libnl library release installed on Ubuntu
14.04.4

The library release is the 3.2.21-1 and the bug is impacting on the
maximum VFs number that can be enabled (up to 30) even if the PF
supports up to 63 VFs in an Openstack SRIOV configuration

The workaround is to install a newer library release, the 3.2.24-2:

wget
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/libnl-3-200_3.2.24-2_amd64.deb
wget
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/libnl-genl-3-200_3.2.24-2_amd64.deb
wget
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/libnl-route-3-200_3.2.24-2_amd64.deb
dpkg -i libnl-3-200_3.2.24-2_amd64.deb
dpkg -i libnl-genl-3-200_3.2.24-2_amd64.deb

[Bug 1566468] Re: systemd-modules-load.service: Failing due to missing module 'ib_iser'

It's loading the first module, then dying. Pretty sure we want open-
iscsi.conf to continue existing, and in light of all the iscsi and
infiniband scaffolding being in the virtual image, it seems silly to
exclude the one module that glues them together.

[Bug 1561598] Re: Missing link to opencryptoki library by libopencryptoki0 package

2016-04-07 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
To compile against system library and headers, one needs a -dev package,
if available.

Compiling and linking against the .so from the -dev package, will gain a
shared library dependeny on the sonamed library (e.g. .so.0 in this
case).

This is exactly the same how all -dev and runtime packages work on
Debian, Ubuntu, RHEL, Suse, etc. This is considered normal, you can find
further developer documentation at the Ubuntu Packaging guide, shared
libraries section - http://packaging.ubuntu.com/html/libraries.html

E.g. when building C apps/libraries that link with OpenSSL one installs
libssl-dev. The resulting/produced binaries gained a dependency on
libssl1.0.0 and only the runtime package needs to be installed on the
deployed systems.

Similarly, if one uses dlopen() one should dlopen() libraries with a
soname, e.g. "libfoo.so.0".

2016-04-07 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov

I'm not sure if that is the same as the required
/lib/s390-tools/zfcpdump/zfcpdump.rd or not.

/lib/s390-tools/zfcpdump/zfcpdump.image is not created yet, but we are
working with kernel team on it. The kernel for release has frozen
however, thus this will come in as an SRU unless we can get that in via
other means.

[Bug 1567557] [NEW] Performance degradation of "zfs clone" when under load

2016-04-07 Thread Stéphane Graber
Public bug reported:

I've been running some scale tests for LXD and what I've noticed is that
"zfs clone" gets slower and slower as the zfs filesystem is getting
busier.

It feels like "zfs clone" requires some kind of pool-wide lock or
something and so needs for all operations to complete before it can
clone a new filesystem.

A basic LXD scale test with btrfs vs zfs shows what I mean, see below
for the reports.

The test is run on a completely dedicated physical server with the pool
on a dedicated SSD, the exact same machine and SSD was used for the
btrfs test.

The zfs filesystem is configured with those settings:
 - relatime=on
 - sync=disabled
 - xattr=sa

So it shouldn't be related to pending sync() calls...

The workload in this case is ultimately 1024 containers running busybox as
their init system and udhcpc grabbing an IP.
The problem gets significantly worse if spawning busier containers, say a full
Ubuntu system.

[Bug 1512188] Re: Update request: skiboot 5.1.9 for OpenPower machines

2016-04-07 Thread Cédric Le Goater
I just installed a trusty on a OpenPOWER system (Habanero). Firmware is v1.8
and it is running a linux-image-generic-lts-xenial.

How do I pull the newer opal-prd to give it a try ?

[Bug 1567567] [NEW] fsck taking way too long 20 hours & still going

2016-04-07 Thread DD Park
Public bug reported:

Hi, I have a 24T file system ext4, ran fsck. It is running fsck for 20 hours so
far and looks like it will keep on going.
The system is not a slow machine at all, relatively new server.
I checked top and saw that CPU usage was not high. I seen similar problem like
this before but CPU usage
was high in the past.

I'm using ubuntu-14.04.4 lts. and running this on the 2nd extra copy of the
superblock. I didn't want to
do it with the main copy. I ran e2image -r -s on the main superblock but it
wouldn't create an image file.

I doubt that anything useful is happening and I don't know how to debug this
further so please advise
if I should keep it going else I'm likely to shut it down soon

[Bug 1567565] [NEW] Permission error saving a file

2016-04-07 Thread Alex D
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 15.10, using evince 3.16.1-0ubuntu1, I fill out a PDF form.
When I save the form, I get the message "Error renaming temporary file:
Permission denied", and the file is not saved. I don't have permissions
trouble in any other apps.

The problem happens only when I'm using a cryptsetup ext4 filesystem
that I mount in /mnt, and not for example in my home directory or in
/tmp. Although I launch evince from the terminal, there are no unusual
error messages printed there. However, journalctl shows a string of
error messages (see attached log).

[Bug 1567539] Re: Failure to dump with trusty+3.16 on ppc64el

2016-04-07 Thread Dave Chiluk
According to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ppc64el/Recommendations#Crash_Kernel_recommendations

it looks like the following should be used.
crashkernel=2G-4G:320M,4G-32G:512M,32G-64G:1024M,64G-128G:2048M,128G-:4096M

These should be made as defaults for crash on ppc64 at the very least.

[Bug 1567536] [NEW] Now Answer At All (Calculator Clears Input Field)

Just copy this into the calculator and press enter:

The calculator doesn't show any result but instead clears the input

without calculating it by hand, good luck with that. I tried to with
several calculators and got different results.

[Bug 1567539] [NEW] Failure to dump with trusty+3.16 on ppc64el

2016-04-07 Thread Dave Chiluk
Public bug reported:

# sudo apt-get install linux-crashdump

set USE_KDUMP=1 in /etc/default/kdump-tools
echo 1 | sudo tee /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq

It looks like there was insufficient memory devoted to the crash kernel.
The defaults were used, and the kernel had 256G of ram, and only 2.6G
were in use at the time of inducing the crash.
