2016-09-16 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your installation media (CD/DVD).
You can verify the integrity of the Ubuntu ISO files you downloaded by
following the instructions at

your installation with new media. In the event that is is not in fact
an error with your installation media please set the bug's status back
to New. Thanks and good luck!

[Bug 1527669] Re: Steam X error

2016-09-16 Thread JakeScully
The above hack causes problems (games looking for different libraries).
Reverted with:

  mv $HOME/.steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-
gnu/libstdc++.so.6{.bak,}

  mv $HOME/.steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/amd64/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-

Lanuch Steam with (much safer) :

  LD_PRELOAD='/usr/$LIB/libstdc++.so.6' DIAPLAY=:0 steam

[Bug 1624096] Re: yakkety: desktop and server ISOs wont boot under QEMU in UEFI mode

2016-09-16 Thread Laszlo Ersek (Red Hat)
Add all three of the following options to your QEMU command line:

-debugcon file:debug.log \
-global isa-debugcon.iobase=0x402 \
-serial stdio

In the OVMF debug log, you will see that your boot loader is launched:

And on the serial console, you will get the register dump for the crash:

[Bug 1624610] [NEW] Can't build a 32-bit GTK2 app on a 64-bit system

2016-09-16 Thread Iouri Kloubakov
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
Release:16.04

gcc-multilib:
  Installed: 4:5.3.1-1ubuntu1
  Candidate: 4:5.3.1-1ubuntu1

apt install build-essential gcc-multilib libgtk2.0-dev

The build fails because there is only 64-bit version of glibconfig.h is
installed:
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/glib-2.0/include/glibconfig.h

Running gcc -m32 gives an error:
/usr/include/glib-2.0/glib/gtypes.h:422:3: error:
'_GStaticAssertCompileTimeAssertion_0' declared as an array with a negative size
G_STATIC_ASSERT(sizeof (unsigned long long) == sizeof (guint64));
because guint64 is defined as (unsigned long) on a 64-bit platform.

Also, there is no 32-bit version of the "pkgconfig" files, so you can't use:
$(pkg-config --cflags gtk+-2.0) with, for example,
PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/lib32/pkgconfig.

[Bug 1610644] Re: lubuntu installer crashes when installing on macbook air

2016-09-16 Thread Phillip Susi
You seem to be trying to upgrade an existing installation that is in an
ext2 partition ( which you shouldn't be using ) and it is corrupt. You
should either fsck this partition to repair it before attempting to
reinstall, or better yet, have the installer format it using ext4
instead of the deprecated ext2 filesystem.

[Bug 1579278] Re: Keep powersave CPU frequency scaling governor for CPUs that support intel_pstate

2016-09-16 Thread Doug Smythies
What has been done here is incorrect.

The old "ondemand" script was modified so that if the intel_pstate
driver was being used, and therefore "ondemand" did not exist, it would
fall through to setting the "powersave" governor (refer to bug
#1314643). Note that "powersave" with the intel_pstate CPU frequency
scaling driver is NOT the same as "powersave" with the acpi-cpufreq CPU
frequency scaling driver.

The preferred governor with the intel_pstate driver is powersave. I'm
saying that this:

# more modern processors that support intel_pstate behave worse with
# ondemand/powersave and should use performance
if [ `cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu$FIRSTCPU/cpufreq/scaling_driver` =
intel_pstate ]; then
echo 'CPU supports intel_pstate, keeping "performance"'
exit 0
fi

is incorrect.

[Bug 1610744] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 - crash during installation

2016-09-16 Thread Phillip Susi
Your disk is currently partitioned to boot in bios mode, but you booted
the 16.04 installer in EFI mode. A warning message prompted you that
this could be a problem and recommended performing a bios mode install
instead, but you chose not to. You either need to perform the bios mode
install, or partition the disk using GPT and set up an EFI system
partition to install in EFI mode. This will be done for you if you
choose the "use entire disk" guided install option.

[Bug 1598300] Re: cups hang after a while

2016-09-16 Thread Till Kamppeter
What was in your /etc/cups/client.conf (now /etc/cups/client.conf_bak)?
If it pointed to a CUPS on a remote machine, all your CUPS access (from
applications/command line, not web interface) was directed to the remote
machine with a different CUPS setup. Now you are using always the CUPS
on your local machine.

Note that client.conf is deprecated but still working as originally
intended (and so often an admin's nightmare).

I do not think this is a duplicate of bug #1615248, as removing the
dangling symlinks does not fix this issue for me.

[Bug 1608236] Re: Regression: S-video output does not work

2016-09-16 Thread Joseph Salisbury
I built the next test kernel, up to the following commit:
c708299477b8592ae6e019aeff18f3b5e833ccea

The test kernel can be downloaded from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1608236

Can you test that kernel and report back if it has the bug or not? I
will build the next test kernel based on your test results.

Thanks in advance

[Bug 1624463] [NEW] The default gamepad config is quite unusable

2016-09-16 Thread Alberto Salvia Novella
Public bug reported:

Using a generic PlayStation like game pad (Logitech Dual Action 2), the
automatic configuration has major usability drawbacks:

- The analog range is too short, making movement hard. In Super Smash
Bros, characters don't jump diagonally.

- C-buttons, instead of isolated as in the original console game pad,
are placed in the second analog. This makes pressing buttons by accident
a frequent issue. In Golden Eye camera movement prevents the game from
been playable, where in Road Rash you frequently discard weapons
permanently.

- Z-trigger and Left-trigger are placed both in the left triggers of the
game pad. But you usually need to press both simultaneously, where that
placement only allows pressing one button at a time.

The solution is this:

- Ignore the console's native analog range, and choose a wider one.

- Place C-buttons in the game pad triggers.

- Place the Z-trigger in the regular button's side, where pressing the
rest is usable.

After testing thoroughly various configurations with multiple games, the
following seems to be the one that responds better in any circumstance
(config file):

# The minimum absolute value of the SDL analog joystick axis to move the N64
controller axis value from 0. For X, Y axes.
AnalogDeadzone = "338,338"
# An absolute value of the SDL joystick axis >= AnalogPeak will saturate the
N64 controller axis value (at 80). For X, Y axes. For each axis, this must be
greater than the corresponding AnalogDeadzone value
AnalogPeak = "21200,21200"
# Digital button configuration mappings

[Bug 1553503] Re: multi monitors - black flashes or black screen when the mouse cursor leaves a monitor

2016-09-16 Thread Bruno
Hello,

4.4.0-38 worked perfectly to me.

Steps (for those as noob as me):

- Enable "Pre-released updates" at "Software & Updates" from "System
Settings".

- Open a terminal window and execute: "sudo apt update" and then "sudo
apt install linux-generic"

Restart.

That should do the trick.

Thank you Timo Aaltonen for you time and attention.

[Bug 1598300] Re: cups hang after a while

2016-09-16 Thread Till Kamppeter
I have done some tests and have found a solution. Please try it out.

Edit the file (with sudo):

/lib/systemd/system/cups.socket

adding a line

ListenStream=631

in the "[Socket]" section. The file should look like this then:

--
[Unit]
Description=CUPS Scheduler

[Socket]
ListenStream=/var/run/cups/cups.sock
ListenStream=631

[Install]
WantedBy=sockets.target
--

Now make sure that this does not produce any editor backup files, like
/lib/systemd/system/cups.socket~ or
/lib/systemd/system/cups.socket.backup. Remove such files now.

Now restart systemd with the command

sudo systemctl daemon-reload

Now systemd does not only restart CUPS via the domain socket but also
via port 631, meaning that it also gets started when trying to access
via the web interface (or any other application which accesses only via
port 631).

Please try it out.

If you do not want to wait everytime until CUPS stops by itself for
doing the tests, you can stop it with

sudo systemctl stop cups

[Bug 1624407] Re: Closing an application doesn’t actually close it, it merely requests all its windows to be closed

2016-09-16 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Given that, unlike X11, we have some control over Mir’s design and
implementation, maybe this is something that we could consider adding?
Or is that out of place?

[Bug 1599745] Re: libvirt block commit stuck at 100%

2016-09-16 Thread Alexandre
Strangely in the last weeks, the --quiesce stopped working out of the
blue (new version of qemu/libvirt/virsh?) and now I randomly get this on
a VM when backing all my VMs. Not sure if the two are related.

Both the original image and the snapshot get updated unless I abort the
snapshot stuck at 100%, in which it is the one being actively updated,
but I can never pivot back to the original file.

TL;DR: KVM backups are now almost impossible to manage.

[Bug 1609242] Re: Kernels 4.3-4.8 result in blackscreen - Intel Ivybridge

2016-09-16 Thread Joseph Salisbury
I built the next test kernel, up to the following commit:
5fcece80ecdac932a0acb71e3a239c39dd4af20f

The test kernel can be downloaded from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1609242

Can you test that kernel and report back if it has the bug or not? I
will build the next test kernel based on your test results.

[Bug 1452202] Re: ubuntu preseed install fails to set a hostname

2016-09-16 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
This bug is still on my list, but there hasn't been progress for the
moment. The workaround I can think of to set hostname during the install
would be to preseed the value on the command-line (setting
netcfg/hostname=whatever along with priority=critical, etc.).

[Bug 1607687] Re: various packages show as installed, but files are not present

2016-09-16 Thread Phillip Susi
** Changed in: ubiquity (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => Triaged

** Changed in: ubiquity (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided => High

** Description changed:

- In addition to an earlier bug report
- (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1593398) I have
- found another package with missing files on a system that was installed
- per the Kubuntu 16.04 64-bit ISO.
+ It appears that Ubiquity removes various packages as the final step of
+ the installation. It appears to do this in two phases however: first it
+ deletes the files they contain, and then in the second phase it updates
+ the dpkg status database to indicate they are no longer installed. The
+ second phase is not performed if grub fails to install, leaving the
+ target system with packages marked as installed, but missing their
+ files. This should not happen.

- Package _dmraid_ was installed and I could display its file list with
- dpkg -L dmraid.

- Basically it is the same thing I have experienced with the Kubuntu 16.04
- "cifs-utils" package; files were missing; or must have been missing.
- Upon first install, and (back then) upon load of the live DVD.
-
- There have been no actions on my system that could have wiped out the
- files of those packages (in isolation of anything else). Most other
- things just work and I have not had complaints of any other missing
- files, save for this one and cifs-utils, apparently. I will likely soon
- need to reinstall Kubuntu, so I can check the Live DVD for that. (A
- VirtualBox image of course would equally be possible). But I will wait
- with further investigation myself until I have booted that Live DVD.
- Regards.
+ Packages this effects include dmraid, libgtkmm ( which in turn breaks
+ gparted, as it depends on that library ), and cifs-utils. There are
+ probably more.

[Bug 1624317] Re: systemd-resolved breaks VPN with split-horizon DNS

the exact symptom you are seeing, can you confirm?

[Bug 1619886] Re: keybard shortcuts stopped working for switching workspaces

2016-09-16 Thread Richard King
I got hit by this after running "apt update" this morning - I noticed
Unity was one of the packages updated.

I discovered a workaround on Ask Ubuntu:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/819585/workplace-switcher-stopped-
working-in-ubuntu-16-04 which led me to this bug. The work-around works
for me.

I also found that the "grid" features of unity no longer worked after
this morning's update: dragging a window to the left or right edge of
the screen no longer resized it to the "left-half" or "right-half" size
(i.e. the full height of the screen, and half the width, snapped to the
left or right edge). I enabled the "grid" setting in the "CompizConfig
settings manager", which restored the feature, however I was prompted to
decide about a number of keyboard shortcut conflicts. I mention this
here because the symptoms occurred at the same time as this bug, and in
the same area, therefore they might have the same root cause.

[Bug 1611738] Re: installaton unsuccessful , grup crashed

2016-09-16 Thread Phillip Susi
Your disk is currently partitioned to boot in bios mode, but you booted
the 16.04 installer in EFI mode. A warning message prompted you that
this could be a problem and recommended performing a bios mode install
instead, but you chose not to. You either need to perform the bios mode
install, or partition the disk using GPT and set up an EFI system
partition to install in EFI mode. This will be done for you if you
choose the "use entire disk" guided install option.

[Bug 1624320] Re: systemd-resolved appends 127.0.0.53 to resolv.conf alongside existing entries

2016-09-16 Thread Martin Pitt
The primary purpose of adding 127.0.0.53 to resolv.conf is for client
software that wants to do DNS resolution by itself instead of using NSS
-- most notable example is Google Chrome, and third-party software which
is statically linked (e. g. Go).

However, other software like NetworkManager or isc-dhcp also calls
resolvconf and adds name servers picked up by them -- as they don't talk
to resolved directly, resolved reads their DNS servers *from*
resolv.conf.

But, software which does its own DNS lookups like the above have to do
their own DNSSEC validation too -- you can't both chose to *not* use NSS
*and* rely on NSS to do DNSSEC for you..

So, this is indeed a wart, but not easily fixed, and also not that
important IMHO. Not using NSS is already broken to some degree, as you
also ignore things like nss-{winbind,docker,ldap} etc.
