[Bug 1707641] [NEW] Sunix 2D VGA controller causes kernel panic and crash on boot

2017-07-31 Thread Tommy Giesler
Public bug reported:

When using Sunix latest low power VGA or DVI controller (see link below)
on Ubuntu 16.04, 17.04 or 17.10 with Kernel 4.11 and later cause the
system to crash on boot (the system will not become reachable via
network too, so I cannot extract any logs).

By using a second graphics controller I was able to extract the attached
kernel message from the system.

The issue also occurs with the latest mainline kernel (tested up to
4.13-rc3).

Sunix changed their graphics chip at some point from Volari Z11 to
Silicon Motion SM750. With the older generation, which uses the Z11,
everything is working.

Links to the graphics controllers which were previously mentioned:

http://www.sunix.com/en/product_detail.php?cid=1&kid=2&gid=15&pid=1760
http://www.sunix.com/en/product_detail.php?cid=1&kid=2&gid=15&pid=1766

previous generation Sunix 2D VGA controller:
http://www.sunix.com.tw/product/vga0411.html

When using Fedora 26 Server, which also uses Kernel 4.11+, everything is
working, too. So I'm not sure, if this is actually an upstream issue.

[Bug 1707642] [NEW] Broken systemd unit for gnocchi-api

2017-07-31 Thread Daniele Venzano
Public bug reported:

gnocchi-api is a developer wrapper arount a test server.
The Gnocchi documentation (http://gnocchi.xyz/operating.html) suggests using
Apache WSGI to run it. The Ubuntu packages should contain the Apache
configuration like is done for Keystone and Cinder.

Anyway the systemd unit is broken because gnocchi-api is called with the
wrong options:

Jul 31 14:34:00 bfeb systemd[1]: Started OpenStack Gnocchi Api.
Jul 31 14:34:02 bfeb gnocchi-api[10203]: usage: gnocchi-api [-h] [--port PORT]

too quickly.
Jul 31 14:34:02 bfeb systemd[1]: Failed to start OpenStack Gnocchi Api.

This is Ubuntu Xenial with the Ocata cloud archive for openstack.

[Bug 1674304] Re: PRIME synchronization not working with xserver-1.19.x in Ubuntu

I even tried to manually load the module with modeset=1, yes.
Will have to try again, maybe there has been a change since I last tried that
fixes it. But I'm sceptical.

Can you please raise this issue upstream @

Also, given the number of memory-related errors you have in your Journal, I'm
curious about how much RAM your machine has.

Public bug reported:

I was investigating the use of a single high UID user (ie, 20)
and discovered that /var/log/lastlog grew to an enormously large sparse
file:

$ ls -lh /var/log/lastlog
-rw-rw-r-- 1 root utmp 544G Jul 27 12:35 /var/log/lastlog

The file is actually quite small though:
$ ls -lh --size /var/log/lastlog
56K -rw-rw-r-- 1 root utmp 544G Jul 27 12:35 /var/log/lastlog

On a standalone system, this is possibly not a problem since it is
highly unlikely that a system will have 2 billion users, but this is
confirmed to wreak havoc on rsync backups.

[Bug 1311316] Re: After locking screen there is no input field to type password for unlock

The lack of indicators might indicate a problem on the upstart user

propose a branch that will allow the system to lock if there are such
types of failures.

[Bug 1707178] Re: package winbind 2:4.3.11+dfsg-0ubuntu0.16.04.9 failed to install/upgrade: problèmes de dépendances - laissé non configuré

2017-07-31 Thread Andreas Hasenack
Thanks for filing this bug in Ubuntu.

For some reason, the samba daemon smbd failed to start:
jui 20 17:05:29 rock systemd[1]: Starting LSB: start Samba SMB/CIFS daemon .
jui 20 17:05:29 rock smbd[2942]: * Starting SMB/CIFS daemon smbd
jui 20 17:05:29 rock smbd[2942]:...fail!

The provided logs do not have enough information to diagnose the issue.

Could you please attach the following files to this bug:
- /etc/samba/smb.conf
- /var/log/samba/log* (all files that begin with "log" in the /var/log/samba/
directory)

Thanks!

[Bug 1311316] Re: After locking screen there is no input field to type password for unlock

2017-07-31 Thread Rael
Not sure if this is important, but I can notice the following: if I
switch to the second (or any other than me) logged user (Ctrl + Alt +
F8), it works normally. I can, then, in second Xorg session, select my
user from indicators and then log in.

And, I'm not sure if this is related, but appears that all the times
this happens, Unity dash launcher don't display icons for any
application (see attached screenshot).

[Bug 1707148] Re: package winbind 2:4.5.8+dfsg-0ubuntu0.17.04.4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2017-07-31 Thread Andreas Hasenack
Thanks for filing this bug in Ubuntu.

When configuring samba as an active directory controller, one has to
switch to the "samba-ad-dc" systemd job instead of the individual smbd,
nmbd and winbind jobs.

Could you please show the output of this command (you can redirect to a
file and attach that file if you prefer):

sudo systemctl status smbd.service nmbd.service winbind.service samba-
ad-dc.service

Also please attach all the files that begin with the text "log" from
/var/log/samba, i.e., /var/log/samba/log*

Thanks!

[Bug 1705369] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 boots to black screen when using Nvidia drivers (on a desktop with an Intel GPU)

2017-07-31 Thread Abdulrahman Amri
@vanvugt, the "nomodeset" is removed. After disabling the integrated
graphics, I did not need it.

I just enabled the integrated graphics and got the same behavior as before.
- Select ubuntu from menu
- 2 monitors go dark, and 1 monitor display a gray background with nothing in
it.
All my monitors are connected to my graphics card.

After I disabled the integrated graphics, Linux was able to boot again.

[Bug 1707656] [NEW] /var/run symlink in redis-server config causes systemd to not start redis-server on 17.04

2017-07-31 Thread László Károlyi
Public bug reported:

Hey guys,

as per reported in the summary, the /var/run symlink causes problems for
systemd when installing redis-server on 17.04.

I reported this bug earlier to systemd devs, and it just surfaced that
the problem is the /var/run symlink.

here the github issue, please have a read:
https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/6318

Systemd is also aiming to fix this issue on their behalf, but as per the
issue, specifying "ReadWriteDirectories=-/run/redis" in the ubuntu
package would fix this issue probably earlier.

Cheers,
László Károlyi

[Bug 1706499] [NEW] NMI Watchdog Soft Lockup CPU Frozen for 22s

2017-07-31 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Whenever switching from high to low, or low to high CPU loads I
encounter the attached lockup. This happens at least twice daily when
the server is left alone, more often when it actually does anything.

The CPU# changes with each crash, but seems to always be for 22s.

[Bug 1706990] Re: With samba installed on Kubuntu 17.04, nmbd.service causes a 10 second boot time regression

2017-07-31 Thread Andreas Hasenack
Thanks for filing this bug in Ubuntu.

Could you please share the following files:
- /etc/samba/smb.conf
- /var/log/samba/log* (all files in /var/log/samba that begin with "log")

Finally, please also share the output of this command (you may redirect
the output to a file and attach that file instead):
