[Bug 1610944] Re: GNOME Online Accounts breaks if you log out (until you reboot)
I believe I encounter this issue with Ubuntu 17.10, which uses "gnome- session 3.26.1-0ubuntu5". The story, I installed Ubuntu 17.04 back in September 2017 and been using Online Accounts for three Gmail accounts. The email client Evolution was working fine. I then upgraded to Ubuntu 17.10 a couple of days ago. After upgrade, Evolution continued to work by using the configured accounts within Online Accounts. So far so good. I then realised that Thunderbird was installed during this OS upgrade too. So I uninstalled Thunderbird with "sudo apt purge thunderbird". After that I had this problem that Online Accounts stopped working. The symptom was that all online accounts showed that the login had expired, despite me having re-logged in a couple of times. I then found this bug report and I followed the instructions provided with https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-online- accounts/+bug/1610944/comments/3, which allowed me to get it working again. In the light of this, I believe this problem is still present with "gnome-session 3.26.1-0ubuntu5". -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1610944 Title: GNOME Online Accounts breaks if you log out (until you reboot) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-online-accounts/+bug/1610944/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1725523] Re: Installing gnome-shell-extensions will make Gnome Classic the default session at login time
** Description changed: + I performed a fresh install of Ubuntu 17.10 (fresh Ubuntu system + partition) but kept my home partition and home folder from Ubuntu Unity + 17.04. I've so far done minimal changes to my system besides from + installing some apps. + If you install gnome-shell-extensions then Gnome Classic will be enabled as a session that the user can choose at login-time. Not only that, but it will also become the session chosen by **default**. When the user logs out and back in its very likely that they miss that Gnome Classic was chosen. When the login is completed the user will be confused because they are presented with a Ubuntu 17.10 that looks ugly and doesn't work correctly. Gnome Classic shouldn't be enabled by installing gnome-shell-extensions, or shouldn't atleast become the session chosen by default upon logging in. What makes this bug serious is that most users, and especially novice ones, won't know what happened (and how easily fixable it is) because the default choice of session is so discrete in the login GUI. Kind regards, Arash ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 17.10 Package: ubuntu-release-upgrader-core 1:17.10.7 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.13.0-16.19-generic 4.13.4 Uname: Linux 4.13.0-16-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.7-0ubuntu3 Architecture: amd64 CrashDB: ubuntu CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Sat Oct 21 01:32:32 2017 InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-10-19 (1 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 17.10 "Artful Aardvark" - Release amd64 (20171018) PackageArchitecture: all SourcePackage: ubuntu-release-upgrader Symptom: release-upgrade UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1725523 Title: Installing gnome-shell-extensions will make Gnome Classic the default session at login time To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1725523/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1725536] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 Dock doesn't respect the color choice of the Gnome Shell theme
Claudio, thanks for your guidance. I immediately made the changes with gsettings from the terminal. But I think you wrote wrong key names so I'll write the correct schema and key names in gsettings commands that can be directly executed to change the colors: gsettings set org.gnome.shell.extensions.dash-to-dock custom-theme- running-dots-color "#5294e2" gsettings set org.gnome.shell.extensions.dash-to-dock custom-theme- running-dots-border-color "#5294e2" Also, we aren't stuck with the orange color in the alt+tab panel nor the Dock's window preview because both of these colors were changed for me when I installed the popular Arc Theme (see link in my bug report above). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1725536 Title: Ubuntu 17.10 Dock doesn't respect the color choice of the Gnome Shell theme To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock/+bug/1725536/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1726061] [NEW] Inspiron 5536 suspend issues after 17.10 upgrade
Public bug reported: On my Inspiron 5536, 17.10 seems to work fairly well, unless I try to suspend. Suspend shuts off the display but doesn't seem to actually shut off the CPU -- fans still run. When I move the mouse the display comes back on but upon entering my password sometimes the session crashes and I am dumped back to the login screen; sometimes the session is still there but wifi is either disabled (all wifi-related menu items gone) or visible (with question mark) but non-functional. In any case once I have suspended I cannot shut down or reboot any way other than the hard way, by holding the power button for several seconds. Doesn't seem to matter whether I am using X or Wayland. Suspend works mostly fine if I choose the 4.10 kernel from GRUB... although I am prompted for login more times than necessary on resume. [Bug 1726073] [NEW] Failed upgrade to Zesty - Could not calculate the upgrade
Public bug reported: Trying to upgrade from 17.04 to 17.10, I am getting the message "Could not calculate the upgrade". I have seen the bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+bug/1069160 which seems similar, but refers to earlier releases (and is marked as invalid), so I am reporting a fresh bug. Bug 1069160 was resolved by a couple of people by removing xserver-xorg-video-nouveau, which I also have installed, but attempting to remove this will also remove xserver-xorg-video-all, and then makes a whole list of xserver-xorg-packages "no longer required", including the one for my graphics card - so I am reluctant to remove this package. I cannot work out whether I have unsupported packages which are preventing calculation of the upgrade (I had a look through the apt.log but couldn't work out where the error was). Thanks in advance for your help. I've attached the apt.log file, and will attach the main.log file in a comment. Attached are the gdb.txt and journalctl.txt files generated following the procedure given above. [Bug 1719797] Re: Firmware update seemingly not working
There seems to be two issues: 1. When clicking "update" on the firmware update, you do not get a notification to restart the machine. I do get a notification if I click the "Update All" button in the top-right corner. 2. After clicking "Update" but before the restart, the update re-appears in the list of updates. This gives me the impression that the update failed. I see two possible solutions: a) don't show the update after the update process has started. b) change the "update" button to a "restart to update" button that prompts to restart the machine on click. [Bug 1691676] Re: Mouse cursor (pointer) is missing during desktop zoom in gnome-shell
Adding this story so maybe it will be easier for others to find. When I upgraded to Ubuntu Artful Aardvark 17.10 the screen booted up in zoom mode and it scrolled whenever I moved the mouse. I figured out how to get the zoom to normal size, but the mouse cursor disappeared or was invisible. If I pressed any key (e.g. SHIFT), the cursor would flash and I could repeatedly press the key to navigate. I didn't realize the Universal Access Zoom was still on because the zoom was 1:1. Turning the zoom feature off entirely made the mouse appear as normal. [Bug 1726022] [NEW] ttf-mscorefonts-installer complains nightly in email because EULA not accepted
Public bug reported: If ttf-mscorefonts-installer is installed non-interactively, then the EULA isn't accepted. After that, cron.daily sends this email every single day: >/etc/cron.daily/update-notifier-common: >ttf-mscorefonts-installer: processing... Note how there's no indication here of any error or any other explanation for why this is running (and apparently not succeeding) every day. It's because the downloader for the package silently fails to download any fonts if the license hasn't been accepted. Note this stanza at the end of /usr/share/package-data-downloads/ttf- mscorefonts-installer: >Script: /usr/lib/msttcorefonts/update-ms-fonts >Should-Download: msttcorefonts/accepted-mscorefonts-eula On a system where the package was installed non-interactively, msttcorefonts/accepted-mscorefonts-eula is false. The code which silently refuses to download fonts if that setting is false is in /usr/lib/update-notifier/package-data-downloader: > if 'Should-Download' in para: > db = debconf.DebconfCommunicator('update-notifier') > try: > should = db.get(para['Should-Download']) > if should == "false": > # Do nothing with this file. > break > except: > pass > finally: > db.shutdown() Something at some level in this stack needs to produce some sort of visible error message so that the user knows what the hell is going on and can fix it. However, on the subject of fixing it, there's another problem... maybe I'm missing something, but I can't find any supported way of accepting this license once the package has been installed, because the code that prompts the user to accept the license is in /var/lib/dpkg/info/ttf- mscorefonts-installer.preinst, and as far as I can tell, dpkg- reconfigure doesn't rerun preinst files. I'm not sure there is a simple fix here; I think perhaps some thought needs to be put into significantly reworking how all this hangs together in the case where the package is installed non-interactively. In case you're curious, the reason why it's installed interactively in my case is because I used ansible to install it. My workaround for this issue was to add code to my ansible playbook to set the dpkg variable to accept the EULA before doing the package install. But it took me hours of digging through source code, scripts, etc., to get to the point where I was able to figure out what was going on and what the workaround should be. This is why I said above that at the very least there should be a visible, useful error message in the cron.daily output. [Bug 1714459] Re: Shell font is blurry under Wayland (panels, menus and login screen too)
I still see significant blurriness in Wayland compared to Xorg. I currently have gnome-shell 3.26.1-0ubuntu4, and I still see the problem. However, in comment #11, this bug report says that a fix was released for 3.26.1-0ubuntu1 on 10/6/2017. I added the following settings in /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.xsettings.gschema.xml and recompiled the schema so it will apply system wide. Hinting = 'full' Antialiasing = 'rgba' Dconf confirms that the system using these default values, as configured above. When I log into a Wayland session, the desktop fonts respect these settings, but gnome-shell fonts look terrible. The fonts from the topbar, all dropdowns from the top bar, and right-click pop-ups from the dock are extreemly fuzzy. When I log into an Xorg session, gnome-shell fonts look great, very sharp, and clear. There is a significant difference between gnome-shell on Xorg and Wayland. I've attached the following screen-shots to help illustrate the difference: - Wayland on Ubuntu 17.10.png - Screenshot of Wayland + gnome-shell topbar, gnome-shell notifications, and Nautilus on Ubuntu 17.10 - Xorg on Ubuntu 17.10.png - Screenshot of Xorg + gnome-shell topbar, gnome-shell notifications, and Nautilus on Ubuntu 17.10 - Wayland vs Xorg on Ubuntu 17.10.png - Screenshot, zoomed in 1500%, showing font rendering differences between Wayland and Xorg Depending on your monitor and resolution, you may not see the difference between the two attached pictutes "Wayland on Ubuntu 17.10.png" and "Xorg on Ubuntu 17.10.png". Nevertheless the third image, " Wayland vs Xorg on Ubuntu 17.10.png", should help. In this image, you can actually see the sub-pixel font rendering, and you can see that grayscale is being used in Wayland (even though I have configured 'rgba'). I will aslo assume that my system setting of 'full' hinting is being ignored as well, by Wayland. 4.13.0-16-generic No LSB modules are available. [Bug 1713313] Re: Unable to launch pkexec'ed applications on Wayland session
Just a heads up, you do understand that this is a feature , not a bug ? https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1274451 That bug is 2 years old and marked as "Status: CLOSED WONTFIX" both with Fedora and upstream with Wayland See https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_debug_Wayland_problems#Graphical_applications_can.27t_be_run_as_root_from_terminal And https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/devel%40lists.fedoraproject.org/thread/A6VXI4WAGSIIWGOTAVNDBVS4VFYXITHA/#2YU2RBYCXQSCGHGP772W5LRXUMTSINHA XWayland bug report (from 2015) https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=91071 Bottom line: This is considered a part of wayland security and will not be resolved upstream. The upstream solution is to run graphical apps from the menu, not the command line. Up to Ubuntu how to "resolve" this "problem" but Fedora decided 2 years ago to work on the grahpical tools. xhost is a work around for now and will remain so as long as apps have xwayland support. ** Bug watch added: Red Hat Bugzilla #1274451 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1274451 ** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #91071 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=91071 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1713313 Title: Unable to launch pkexec'ed applications on Wayland session To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/1713313/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1725680] Re: DNS name resolution doesn't work on Artful
Yes, my wifi provides a DNS nameserver. It's adress is 192.168.44.1, and it is shown when I open System Settings --> WLAN and click on the properties of the connected network. When I manually add this DNS server to resolv.conf, DNS resolution will start working. What I'm currently using is some sort of a "public facility wifi", where anyone can connect freely to without any authentification (and without encryption). Unfortunately, this is the only network I can test ATM, so I don't know if if would be different on e.g. a WPA2-encrypted private wifi. Here is the output of the two commands: $ systemd-resolve --status Global DNSSEC NTA: 10.in-addr.arpa 16.172.in-addr.arpa 168.192.in-addr.arpa 17.172.in-addr.arpa 18.172.in-addr.arpa 19.172.in-addr.arpa 20.172.in-addr.arpa 21.172.in-addr.arpa 22.172.in-addr.arpa 23.172.in-addr.arpa 24.172.in-addr.arpa 25.172.in-addr.arpa 26.172.in-addr.arpa 27.172.in-addr.arpa 28.172.in-addr.arpa 29.172.in-addr.arpa 30.172.in-addr.arpa 31.172.in-addr.arpa corp d.f.ip6.arpa home internal intranet lan local private test Link 3 (wlp7s0) Current Scopes: DNS LLMNR/IPv4 LLMNR/IPv6 LLMNR setting: yes MulticastDNS setting: no DNSSEC setting: no DNSSEC supported: no DNS Servers: 192.168.44.1 DNS Domain: lan Link 2 (enp9s0) Current Scopes: none LLMNR setting: yes MulticastDNS setting: no DNSSEC setting: no DNSSEC supported: no -- $ sudo NetworkManager --print-config # NetworkManager configuration: /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf (lib: 10-dns-resolved.conf, 20-connectivity-ubuntu.conf) (run: 10-globally-managed-devices.conf) (etc: default-wifi-powersave-on.conf) [main] # rc-manager=symlink # auth-polkit=true # dhcp=dhclient dns=systemd-resolved plugins=ifupdown, keyfile [connectivity] uri=http://connectivity-check.ubuntu.com/ [ifupdown] managed=false [logging] # backend=journal # audit=true [device] wifi.scan-rand-mac-address=no [connection] wifi.powersave=3 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1725680 Title: DNS name resolution doesn't work on Artful To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1725680/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
