[Bug 1726124] Re: DNS domain search paths not updated when VPN started
I'm not sure I understand what you mean. In a typical configuration you never send "foo" to the nameservice, there's always a search domain and those lookups are always tried first (because the default value for the ndots is 1). This is handled by the libc resolver linked into every program, it's not handled by a central service. I don't have any idea how systemd-resolve works. But, my understanding of how it used to work with dnsmasq using split tunneling was that the nameservice mapped domains to DNS servers, and the resolver would only forward requests to the DNS server that matched the domain for the host being requested. If you have a VPN interface that adds "mycorp.com" to the search domain that appears in /etc/resolv.conf search, so it contains "mycorp.com localdomain" for example. Then when someone tries to resolve "myhost", the libc resolver sees that there are no dots here and so it starts appending search paths to the hostname, in order, and sending them to the DNS service to look up. So first it will send "myhost.mycorp.com" to the resolver. The resolver sees that the hostname ends in "mycorp.com" and it knows that the VPN DNS servers "own" that domain, so it forwards that request to those servers for lookup. If that doesn't match, then the libc resolver will try to look up "myhost.localdomain". That does NOT match the VPN domain, so it will not try to forward that to the DNS servers for the VPN connection and instead use a different resolver. I don't think there's any information leakage here. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1726124 Title: DNS domain search paths not updated when VPN started To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1726124/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1720363] Re: keyboard layout indicator sometimes doesn't appear on session start
Update: The bug is in the mate-settings-daemon. Although it is running, it very often fails to display the indicator. The only workaround for me right now is to kill it, which causes it to reload itself. Repeat until the keyboard indicator is displayed. killall mate-settings-daemon -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1720363 Title: keyboard layout indicator sometimes doesn't appear on session start To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mate/+bug/1720363/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1726192] [NEW] 17.10 Login To Wayland Fails Unless User Logs Into Unity First
Public bug reported: After upgrading from 17.04 to 17.10, it's not possible to log into the default 'Ubuntu' session unless I log into Unity first. If I log into Unity, immediately log out, then log into Ubuntu, it logs in without issue. [Bug 1726124] Re: DNS domain search paths not updated when VPN started
Right, so it seems like NM checks the never-default setting, and doesn't push them as resolve domains =/ I will test things out to be sure. Specifically: $ nmcli c show YOUR_VNP_CONNECTION_NAME | grep never-default ipv4.never-default: yes ipv6.never-default: yes And if it is never-default, it doesn't push search domains out, only routing domains. I believe this might be actually correctly intended configuration of the openvpn and network-manager and resolved. Since all traffic is not routed to the VPN connection, its domain names should not be used for resolution. E.g. resolving "foo.company.example.net" should work and should end up being resolved via nameserver on the vpn, and not leak DNS resolution to public DNS server, and one should be able to connect to that host. But resovling "foo" should be failing. I understand this is a change of behaviour, thus does seem like a regression. I will consult on what is correct behaviour and how to best fix it. ** Tags added: regression-release -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1726124 Title: DNS domain search paths not updated when VPN started To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1726124/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1726159] Re: PCIe BUS Error causing really slow laptop performance
** Description changed: - I recently bought the following laptop: + I recently bought the following laptop: Asus VivoBook X542UQ-DM148T - 15.6" (i7-7500U/8GB/256GB/GT 940MX 2GB) It came pre-installed with Win10 and I did a fresh install of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. The screen was flickering for some reason and installing Ubuntu 17.04 fixed the issue. The real problem is that when I'm booting the laptop, the following error is being shown on my screen: [ 12.866073] pcieport :00:1c.5: can't find device of ID00e5 [ 12.898481] pcieport :00:1c.5: AER: Multiple Corrected error received: id=00e5 [ 12.898488] pcieport :00:1c.5: PCIe Bus Error: severity=Corrected, type=Physical Layer, id=00e5(Receiver ID) [ 12.898491] pcieport :00:1c.5: device [8086:9d15] error status/mask=2041/2000 [ 12.898492] pcieport :00:1c.5:[ 0] Receiver Error (First) [ 12.898493] pcieport :00:1c.5:[ 6] Bad TLP I know that this error can be hid with one of the following kernel boot arguments: pci=nomsi / pci=noaer / pcie_aspm=off / pci=nommconf. The weird thing is that the above output is only being shown when the laptop is on AC Power (charging). When the laptop is not connected to AC (battery-mode), it has performance issues (slow boot and slow application launching). I was trying all day long to fix the problem. I removed everything that had to do with power-saving, reinstalled, re- - tweaked for performance but had no luck. While diagnosing, I had the - idea to benchmark the "M2 SATA-3 SSD" that my laptop had. The results - are: + tweaked for performance, tried different kernels but had no luck. While + diagnosing, I had the idea to benchmark the "M2 SATA-3 SSD" that my + laptop had. The results are: * On AC Power: 522MB/s (READ) | 416MB/s (WRITE) * On Battery Power: 32MB/s (READ) | 31MB/s (WRITE) This explains everyting. That's why I'm having a slow boot and slow application launching! Commands "lspci" and "dmesg" say that the error comes from the following device: 00:1c.5 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Sunrise Point-LP PCI Express Root Port #6 (rev f1) I will attach lspci and dmesg output on a tar.gz file. [Bug 1726116] Re: Thunderbird "unread email" counter doesn't immediately update after emails have been opened
** Description changed: BEHAVIOR - With Thunderbird in the Ubuntu Dock favorites, a counter will appear in the top-right showing the number of unread emails or new email notifications. After reading some of those emails, the counter in the top-right doesn't immediately go down. After about three or four minutes, it updates. + With Thunderbird in the Ubuntu Dock favorites, a counter will appear in the top-right showing the number of (I believe) a combination of unread emails and/or new email notifications. After opening some of those emails, the counter in the top-right doesn't always change. It looks like any unread emails that were present upon opening Thunderbird don't alter the counter when they're opened, but new emails received after Thunderbird is opened will alter the counter number when opened. EXPECTED BEHAVIOR - For the counter to more responsively reflect the updated amount of unread emails. + For the counter number to be affected when emails are opened, regardless whether they were received after Thunderbird opened or not. (Could just be my ignorance as to whether the counter is alerting me of new email notifications or total unread emails.) Re: [Bug 1706097] Re: gvfsd-mtp crashed with SIGSEGV
I have an android coolpad that works great when plugged in. no problems at all. The crash my 17.10 suffered was internal and didnt affect anything going on I was doing (Chromium browsing, transfering files from pc to usb and android etc), an error message just popped up out of the blue and i agreed to report it. Sounds like you may be having a hardware conflict somewhere. The only other problem ive had since install was gparted not wanting to work at all.
