[Bug 1725976] [NEW] Sometimes need to login 2 times after resume from suspend

2017-10-22 Thread Prashant Soni
Public bug reported:

I'm on Xubuntu 17.10
About 50% of resume from suspend requires me to login 2 times instead of just
once.

I press shift to resume from suspend. The login prompt comes - I login.
Sometimes, I get logged in. Other times, the login prompt comes again.

login manager : lightdm
Been using 17.10 pre-releases (and taking daily updates) since about 20 days.
The problem has been around since day one.

+ I've recently installed Ubuntu 17.10 (Gnome shell). After a while I saw
an OSD notification with the message "printer added", and thought that
must be because of the new driverless printers feature in the kernel. I
have a brother printer in the network, and I tested it and it worked.
The thing is that the message repeats itself, approximately every two
minutes, and it's really distracting. I saw a question about this on
  AskUbuntu (https://askubuntu.com/questions/918462/ubuntu-17-04-printer-
added-notifications-under-gnome), and a solution, but it seemed like no
one had filed a bug report.

2017-10-22 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit

[Bug 1726120] [NEW] Xscreensaver - photopile: red frame around pictures during slideshow after dist-upgrade

2017-10-22 Thread B Jannelli
Public bug reported:

Hi,

After upgrading from Xubuntu 17.04 to 17.10, a visual bug appears with
xscreensaver's effect named photopile.

A red pixel frame appears around all slideshow's pictures. It is about
one pixel thick.

I'm using the same pictures which are in the same folder and I don't
change anything in photopile setup.

I don't see any other graphic propblem using my system.

Thank you for your attention about this little minor bug.

[Bug 1507803] Re: ttf-mscorefonts-installer is trying to force me to agree eula

2017-10-22 Thread Paulo Silva
for my surprise, after 2 years, this problem persists... i really wonder
why... :(

do anyone know how can we create an empty .deb named ttf-mscorefonts-
installer in a kind of "infinite" version? (so we wouldn’t be disturbed
with that crap again) - the .deb from version still works, but it is
painfully slow to install...

[Bug 1726124] Re: DNS domain search paths not updated when VPN started

2017-10-22 Thread Paul Smith
I'm not sure I understand what you mean. In a typical configuration you
never send "foo" to the nameservice, there's always a search domain and
those lookups are always tried first (because the default value for the
ndots is 1). This is handled by the libc resolver linked into every
program, it's not handled by a central service.

I don't have any idea how systemd-resolve works. But, my understanding
of how it used to work with dnsmasq using split tunneling was that the
nameservice mapped domains to DNS servers, and the resolver would only
forward requests to the DNS server that matched the domain for the host
being requested.

If you have a VPN interface that adds "mycorp.com" to the search domain
that appears in /etc/resolv.conf search, so it contains "mycorp.com
localdomain" for example. Then when someone tries to resolve "myhost",
the libc resolver sees that there are no dots here and so it starts
appending search paths to the hostname, in order, and sending them to
the DNS service to look up. So first it will send "myhost.mycorp.com"
to the resolver. The resolver sees that the hostname ends in
"mycorp.com" and it knows that the VPN DNS servers "own" that domain, so
it forwards that request to those servers for lookup.

If that doesn't match, then the libc resolver will try to look up
"myhost.localdomain". That does NOT match the VPN domain, so it will
not try to forward that to the DNS servers for the VPN connection and
instead use a different resolver.

I don't think there's any information leakage here.

[Bug 1712089] Re: Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 keyUnable to init server: Could not connect: Connection refused

2017-10-22 Thread Mark
According to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1274451 there
are no plans for Wayland to support running graphical applications as
root so that bug has been closed as WONTFIX. The correct fix is for
Synaptic, and other graphical apps needing root, to be rewritten to run
the GUI as a normal user and to use "polkit" for the parts where they
need root access.

[Bug 1720363] Re: keyboard layout indicator sometimes doesn't appear on session start

2017-10-22 Thread Robert Tari
Update:

The bug is in the mate-settings-daemon. Although it is running, it very
often fails to display the indicator. The only workaround for me right
now is to kill it, which causes it to reload itself. Repeat until the
keyboard indicator is displayed.

killall mate-settings-daemon

[Bug 1726178] [NEW] Fatal error installing Ubuntu 17.10 from dvd

2017-10-22 Thread Eric Canon
Public bug reported:

Said bootloader failed. I aborted the install and it warned me I would
possibly need to install a boot loader manually. I have no idea how to
do that. I had the Ubuntu 16 version sucessfully installed and I thought
I would install the new version. When I booted from the download disc of
17.10 it did not see my previously installed Ubuntu 16 which was okay as
I did that yesterday and I lost no data.

[Bug 1726192] [NEW] 17.10 Login To Wayland Fails Unless User Logs Into Unity First

2017-10-22 Thread Rick Grundy
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from 17.04 to 17.10, it's not possible to log into the
default 'Ubuntu' session unless I log into Unity first. If I log into
Unity, immediately log out, then log into Ubuntu, it logs in without
issue.

If I don't log into Unity first, the login attempt to Ubuntu briefly
shows a black screen, then returns immediately to the login prompt.

>From suspend or hibernate, I can continue using the Wayland session
without issue through poweroff. If I reboot or shutdown, the first login
needs to be Unity, then I can log out and back to the Ubuntu session
normally.

Attached is some output from syslog showing gnome-session related
errors. I'm not sure if they show the specific error, but they do appear
at the time a first Ubuntu login is attempted.

[Bug 405294] Re: A2DP Bluetooth audio skips terribly ["Skipping NNN us (= MMM bytes) in audio stream"]

2017-10-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
> FYI this problem sits high on the Pulseaudio bug list, but...

For Ubuntu users yes this is the "hottest" bug in the pulseaudio
package:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bugs?orderby=-heat=0

However, upstream have been mostly silent on this bug since January
2015:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=88827

Any solution here will likely come from upstream so if you continue to
experience this bug in Ubuntu 17.10 (and soon 18.04) please comment on
the above link.

[Bug 1726124] Re: DNS domain search paths not updated when VPN started

2017-10-22 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Right, so it seems like NM checks the never-default setting, and doesn't
push them as resolve domains =/ I will test things out to be sure.

Specifically:

$ nmcli c show YOUR_VNP_CONNECTION_NAME | grep never-default
ipv4.never-default: yes
ipv6.never-default: yes

And if it is never-default, it doesn't push search domains out, only
routing domains.

I believe this might be actually correctly intended configuration of the
openvpn and network-manager and resolved. Since all traffic is not
routed to the VPN connection, its domain names should not be used for
resolution. E.g. resolving "foo.company.example.net" should work and
should end up being resolved via nameserver on the vpn, and not leak DNS
resolution to public DNS server, and one should be able to connect to
that host. But resovling "foo" should be failing.

I understand this is a change of behaviour, thus does seem like a
regression. I will consult on what is correct behaviour and how to best
fix it.

[Bug 1726159] Re: PCIe BUS Error causing really slow laptop performance

2017-10-22 Thread George Mathioudakis
** Description changed:

- I recently bought the following laptop:
+ I recently bought the following laptop:
  Asus VivoBook X542UQ-DM148T - 15.6" (i7-7500U/8GB/256GB/GT 940MX 2GB)

It came pre-installed with Win10 and I did a fresh install of Ubuntu
16.04 LTS. The screen was flickering for some reason and installing
  Ubuntu 17.04 fixed the issue.

The real problem is that when I'm booting the laptop, the following
error is being shown on my screen:

  [ 12.866073] pcieport :00:1c.5: can't find device of ID00e5
[ 12.898481] pcieport :00:1c.5: AER: Multiple Corrected error received:
id=00e5
  [ 12.898488] pcieport :00:1c.5: PCIe Bus Error: severity=Corrected,
type=Physical Layer, id=00e5(Receiver ID)
  [ 12.898491] pcieport :00:1c.5: device [8086:9d15] error
status/mask=2041/2000
  [ 12.898492] pcieport :00:1c.5:[ 0] Receiver Error (First)
  [ 12.898493] pcieport :00:1c.5:[ 6] Bad TLP

I know that this error can be hid with one of the following kernel boot
arguments:
  pci=nomsi / pci=noaer / pcie_aspm=off / pci=nommconf.

The weird thing is that the above output is only being shown when the
laptop is on AC Power (charging). When the laptop is not connected to AC
(battery-mode), it has performance issues (slow boot and slow
application launching). I was trying all day long to fix the problem. I
removed everything that had to do with power-saving, reinstalled, re-
- tweaked for performance but had no luck. While diagnosing, I had the
- idea to benchmark the "M2 SATA-3 SSD" that my laptop had. The results
- are:
+ tweaked for performance, tried different kernels but had no luck. While
+ diagnosing, I had the idea to benchmark the "M2 SATA-3 SSD" that my
+ laptop had. The results are:

  * On AC Power: 522MB/s (READ) | 416MB/s (WRITE)
  * On Battery Power: 32MB/s (READ) | 31MB/s (WRITE)

This explains everyting. That's why I'm having a slow boot and slow
  application launching!

Commands "lspci" and "dmesg" say that the error comes from the following
device:
00:1c.5 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Sunrise Point-LP PCI Express Root Port
#6 (rev f1)

I will attach lspci and dmesg output on a tar.gz file.

I checked, and don't have any updates available -- everything is

However, I've since been unable to re-produce the issue on the PC that
was initially experiencing it, and can't produce the issue on any other
PC's. So... maybe problem solved?

[Bug 1726116] Re: Thunderbird "unread email" counter doesn't immediately update after emails have been opened

2017-10-22 Thread Jesse
** Description changed:

  BEHAVIOR
- With Thunderbird in the Ubuntu Dock favorites, a counter will appear in the
top-right showing the number of unread emails or new email notifications. After
reading some of those emails, the counter in the top-right doesn't immediately
go down. After about three or four minutes, it updates.
+ With Thunderbird in the Ubuntu Dock favorites, a counter will appear in the
top-right showing the number of (I believe) a combination of unread emails
and/or new email notifications. After opening some of those emails, the counter
in the top-right doesn't always change. It looks like any unread emails that
were present upon opening Thunderbird don't alter the counter when they're
opened, but new emails received after Thunderbird is opened will alter the
counter number when opened.

  EXPECTED BEHAVIOR
- For the counter to more responsively reflect the updated amount of unread
emails.
+ For the counter number to be affected when emails are opened, regardless
whether they were received after Thunderbird opened or not. (Could just be my
ignorance as to whether the counter is alerting me of new email notifications
or total unread emails.)

  BUG DISCOVERED USING
  Ubuntu 17.10
- Thunderbird 52.4.0
+ Thunderbird 52.4.0
  GNOME 3.26.1
  Nvidia 384.90 proprietary driver
  X.org 1.19.5
  Linux kernel 4.13.0-16-generic

Re: [Bug 1706097] Re: gvfsd-mtp crashed with SIGSEGV

2017-10-22 Thread michael deer
I have an android coolpad that works great when plugged in. no problems at
all. The crash my 17.10 suffered was internal and didnt affect anything
going on I was doing (Chromium browsing, transfering files from pc to usb
and android etc), an error message just popped up out of the blue and i
agreed to report it. Sounds like you may be having a hardware conflict
somewhere. The only other problem ive had since install was gparted not
wanting to work at all.

[Bug 1725649] Re: Fullscreen games loose "fullscreen" after an alt+tab

2017-10-22 Thread Dražen Matešić
Have the same issue.
Also using Ubuntu 17.10 with nvidia 384.90 driver.

Happens for me in Day of Infamy and Insurgency. I need to go to video
settings and set to windowed or borderless and back to fullscreen in
order to play the game in full screen again. Or just quit and relaunch
it.

[Bug 1724504] Re: navigation shortcuts do not work aver xorg update

Solution is found here:

https://askubuntu.com/questions/819585/workplace-switcher-stopped-

Activating Desktop wall in ccsm solves the issue.

I still think that a feature ceasing to work silently is a bug.

This happens if software-properties is closed on the desktop before the

[Bug 1723680] Re: GPU Hang in Xorg rcs0 drm/i915

2017-10-22 Thread Aun
I am unable to get useful debug info from the kernel for a bug report.
It hangs at a black screen and will not respond to any of the magic
sysreq commands. I tried the intel drm-tip too and same result. Fully
hung, can't ssh in, no console, nothing, completely wedged. Don't want
to send bug report without details.

I'm building some tags between working and not working and will try a
bisect after I narrow it down. linus v4.10 tag build works fine.

Any suggestions?
