2017-11-28 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a memory
test. Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1734825] [NEW] keyboard layout not coherent with the system => failed to decrypt

2017-11-28 Thread Grummfy
Public bug reported:

Hello,
I have installed a fresh new version of ubuntu 17.10 (and I try 3 times because
of this bug), but the layout of the keyboard choose by cryptsetup seems to be
qwerty (instead of azerty, the default on my system) and impossible to reset to
other.

In 16.10 & 17.04 the keyboard is the one from the system default (in my
case azerty).

[Bug 1734817] Re: keyboard: alt-F doesn't open File menu

2017-11-28 Thread Khurshid Alam
For me, Gedit and Evince are working fine. Do they show horizontal menu-
bar? Gnome apps doesn't usually have menu-bar. Ubuntu patches few to
show menu-bar (file, edit etc) under unity. But if a app doesn't have
file menu, naturally ALT+F won't work.

Also there is this bug, LP: #1683383 which happens because Ubuntu
removed a 5-year old patch from xorg. As a result lots of binding
shortcuts are not working under Unity.

Unfortunately that crash file is not very helpful:

Thread 1 (Thread 0xaf827980 (LWP 5793)):

Can you try running libreoffice in gdb to trigger the crash and get a proper
backtrace? You would need to install debug symbols for libreoffice (sudo apt
install libreoffice-core-dbgsym), see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Debug%20Symbol%20Packages for info on how to do that.

The crime rate may rise because of this and the mayor/admins folks

[Bug 1670959] Re: systemd-resolved using 100% CPU

2017-11-28 Thread James Cuzella
Maybe interesting things to note:

1. When in bad state:
  - The mentioned ENV var change in /etc/default/dnsmasq and `sudo systemctl
restart dnsmasq` immediately resolves the issue
2. When in good state:
  - Commenting out the ENV var and running `sudo systemctl restart dnsmasq`
does not immediately re-cause the issue
  - After a reboot, the bad state can be observed again (systemd-resolved using
100% of a CPU core)

Maybe there is an order of operations thing here?

Christian: I've tried as I believe you have asked.

When in the bad case (I comment out the line: DNSMASQ_EXCEPT=lo and then
reboot):

 - Running this did not resolve the issue: `sudo resolvconf -a lo.dnsmasq`
 - Running this did not resolve the issue: `echo "nameserver 127.0.0.1" |
/sbin/resolvconf -a lo.dnsmasq`

So far only the DNSMASQ_EXCEPT=lo line in /etc/default/dnsmasq appears
to resolve the issue.

[Bug 1733849] Re: libreoffice do not start, even after complete reinstalling

2017-11-28 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Another direction for investigation: is this crashing when opening a
specific file, or with any file? Or even simply when running the
libreoffice launcher?

I'm asking because the crash file mentions that it was generated by the
following command:

/usr/lib/libreoffice/program/soffice.bin --calc
file:///home/pietro/.cache/.fr-

It could be that the command is truncated, and it suggests that it's
trying to open a file from a temporary extraction directory created by
file-roller. I'm wondering if the crash happens when opening a file from
your home directory instead (e.g. ~/Documents).

which I pasted in reply to someone else's with similar/same problem

[Bug 1734388] Re: LibreOffice Snap version is not recognizing the word accent keys.

2017-11-28 Thread Olivier Tilloy
This looks very similar to https://github.com/sergiusens/telegram-snap/issues/4.
I can still reproduce the issue with the telegram snap (version 1.1.23), but
I'm not seeing the problem with the libreoffice snap. I wonder why it's
affecting libreoffice on your system.

What version of Ubuntu is this? And which desktop environment? Are you
running X11 or wayland?

As per Leann's request I have copied the 4.13.0-1003.3 kernel package to
xenial-updates (along with its linux-meta-azure-edge counterpart). Had
to do it with a manual copyPackage() so please confirm if all is good.

[Bug 1734839] [NEW] ncmpcpp in artful fails to connect

2017-11-28 Thread Petter Adsen
Public bug reported:

ncmpcpp:
  Installed: 0.7.4-1build3
  Candidate: 0.7.4-1build3
  Version table:
 *** 0.7.4-1build3 500
500 http://no.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu artful/universe amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

When I start ncmpcpp, I am met with the message "ncmpcpp: connection
refused", but there is no sign of this in mpd.log on the server. On my
zesty machine it works perfectly, even though it is using the same
version of the package, and both are using the exact same config file
(copied across with scp). Other mpd clients like gmpc works fine from
the artful machine.

The really weird thing is that if I launch it with 'ncmpcpp -h hostname
-p 6600' it works.

I have double- and triple-checked the config file, including rewriting
it all by hand and removing everything non-essential. I also tried
upgrading to v0.8.1 from
https://launchpad.net/~aguignard/+archive/ubuntu/ppa, but that gives the
same result.

The only thing I can think of is that something must have changed from
zesty to artful to cause this, but it's beyond me to figure out what.
Something in the dependencies (libbost?), maybe.

Should I file this upstream, or is there something else I can try? I
really want to avoid switching to another mpd client.

[Bug 1728303] Re: Display corruption on intel haswell Macbook Air

2017-11-28 Thread Sebastian
I have been busy for the past month, but I finally got around to try it
out. Here are the results and answers to @jsalisbury's questions:

1. I am not sure a kernel ever existed where this problem was not
present. Maybe ancient kernels around the time this computer was
released (2013-14 ish). It was probably before the CPU/GPU was
supported.

2. I have tested the latest mainline kernel (as of writing 4.14.2) and my
problem is still there.

[Bug 1734147] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 corrupting BIOS - many LENOVO laptops models

2017-11-28 Thread Andy
Just wanted to join in and say that I am also affected by this, the exact same
way as everyone else. I updated to ubuntu 17.10 and my bios died.
Like others, I also changed the CMOS battery etc. It was not a battery problem.

I followed user Marcin Ciosek's work around that he posted on the lenovo forums
and was able to fix my installation. But the bios is ofcourse still bricked.
I've never experienced this before, I thought it not possible for an OS to
brick a bios chip. If anyone knows how exactly this happened let us know.

[Bug 1731693] Re: kernel crash/freeze during shutdown

2017-11-28 Thread Hadmut Danisch
I've made some tests meanwhile with the latest 4.14 ubuntu kernel
package, but could not reproduce the bug with the tests under that
kernel so far, but that does not really and realiably mean anything,
because

- the kernel freeze occures occasionally only, therefore difficult to
prove the absence by a few tests.

- the machine needs zfs to use it's additional disks and I don't get the
zfs kernel modules with that 4.14 package, so it's unclear whether the
bug is somehow caused by zfs modules. Furthermore, I cannot test the
machine intensively (and under similar usage) without zfs.

To be comparable, the 4.14 kernel package would need to be compiled in the very
same way as the 4.4 kernel that comes with 16.04.

[Bug 1734855] Re: iscsitarget 1.4.20.3+svn502-2ubuntu4.4 ADT test failure with linux 4.4.0-102.125

2017-11-28 Thread Stefan Bader
This is actually a broken test case for the daemon. First it is actually
named ietd (not iscsitarget) and second it is already in (attempted)
started state after installation, so it needs a restart call to be
started after changing the config file. My guess is that the test only
ever passed because the test for the daemon running was done quickly
enough to catch the sysvinit script in ps output.

[Bug 1724173] Re: bcache makes the whole io system hang after long run time

2017-11-28 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Hi there was a slight issue in the repro relying on sda5, I changed that to be
on shm as well.
2x800M are easy to spare. Hope it triggers with that as well.

# Get a 3G guest with full console logging
$ uvt-simplestreams-libvirt --verbose sync --source
http://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/daily arch=amd64 label=daily release=xenial
$ uvt-kvm create --password=ubuntu --log-console-output --memory 3096
xenial-bcache-test release=xenial arch=amd64 label=daily

# setup guest into the crash in the guest
$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt install fio
$ wget
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-lts-xenial/+bug/1724173/+attachment/5008126/+files/bcachecrash.tgz
$ tar xvf bcachecrash.tgz
# Add in the fixed version of crash-setup from http://paste.ubuntu.com/26063669/
$ sudo ./bcachecrash/crash-setup
$ sudo ./bcachecrash/crash-attach

# now on two consoles
$ sudo ./bcachecrash/crash-grep
$ sudo ./bcachecrash/crash-fio

Not sure if it triggers the bug, but with those fixes it runs ...
Will let you know if it crashed the kernel before I needed to recycle the
machine.

I was unable to reproduce this on 4.13 until Nov 23 when it happened

doesn't imply as much disk I/O as the previous 40G dd did.

Hi,

unfortunately due to launchpad bug #983766 your attachment cannot be
downloaded. Could you please rename it to something that does not
contain symbols, something like "logs.tar.gz", and upload it one more
time?

Thanks

[Bug 1734830] Re: package linux-image-4.10.0-40-generic (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subproces dpkg-deb --fsys-tarfile gaf een foutwaarde 2 terug

2017-11-28 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

Works fine and hints correctly.

What gives?

Running last stable firefox (56.0, 57 all messed up, so locked 56 with

However, firefox still happens to show _some_ fonts incorrectly -
possibly, bitmap fonts?

Some fonts downloaded from the web (like on Gmail) work fine.

Others don't.

See attached SSots.

[Bug 1728762] Re: Update iwlwifi firmware for 3160, 3168, 7260, 7265 and 7265D

2017-11-28 Thread Seth Forshee
** Description changed:

+ SRU Justification
+
+ Impact: Intel wireless firmware WoWLAN functionality is vulnerable to
+ some CVEs from the KRACK attack vulnerabilities, CVE-2017-13080 and
+ CVE-2017-13081.
+
+ Fix: Updated firmware from Intel containing fixes for these
+ vulnerabilities.
+
+ Test Case: Difficult to test; we are reliant on testing done by Intel.
+
+ Regression Potential: There is always some possibility for regressions
+ with firmware updates, but as these are bug fix updates the regression
+ potential is minimal. I have been using the 7260 firmware for over a
+ week now without issue.
+
+ ---
+
There are two parts of WIFI firmware update. Please double check if
  Ubuntu release has include them.

A new firmware version for 8260 and 8265 WiFi devices.
  This our Core31 release (-34.ucode).

-
  A new firmware version for 3160, 3168, 7260, 7265 and 7265D
Note: This firmware version hasn't been pulled into mainline yet.
  This includes a security fix.
The patch in iwlwifi/linux-firmware.git is here:

Did you really link python to python3? Can you elaborate on what you
did?
