[Bug 1877085] [NEW] Log in with a fingerprint

2020-05-06 Thread lcs_europe
Public bug reported:

Dear All

Your documentation to the topic "Log in with a fingerprint" is not
applicable to Ubuntu 20.04. There is no "...next to (Fingerprint
Login)...".

I would be grateful if the documentation were adapted to Ubuntu 20.04.

Thank you for your help. Kind regards, Laszlo

[Bug 1873368] Re: ssshuttle server fails to connect endpoints with python 3.8

2020-05-06 Thread Pres-Gas
I found an upstream bug and added details to that. If I point to
python2, client 20.04 and target 20.04 works. If I do NOT point sshuttle
to python2, but keep it at python3 it fails.

Keeping client at python3 while target is RHEL 7.7 works. Please see my
post in this upstream bug:

https://github.com/sshuttle/sshuttle/issues/381#issuecomment-624607821

Perhaps this can be coordinated with upstream?

2020-05-06 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From niklas.schne...@ibm.com 2020-05-06 08:06 EDT---
To add, I'm pretty sure this broke in a very recent change as we were using
the installkernel script extensively just last week.
Also I believe there is something in the usual kernel upgrade process that
hides this issue as kernel upgrades via apt seem to work fine.

2020-05-06 Thread paoletto
thanks for the feedback Zed, i will give this a shot.
It's so sad to see how laggy canonical is in fixing such a serious bugs, but
also how careless in introducing regressions such as this one.
I believe these wireless cards are extremely widespread, so i wonder how it's
possible not to catch such a regression?

[Bug 1877114] [NEW] Fingerprint Reader not working

2020-05-06 Thread snow
Public bug reported:

Ican enroll my finger prints with "fprintd-enroll" successfully.
Then I add the line:

auth sufficient pam_fprintd.so

to:

/etc/pam.d/polkit-1
/etc/pam.d/sudo
etc...

However, Kubuntu does not offer FP login even with the above settings. It works
in Ubuntu.
What am I doing wrong? Is the wa to activate the FP Reader in Kubuntu different
then in Ubuntu?

[Bug 1875172] Re: gnome-weather / geoclue polls wpasupplicant SSID list too often

2020-05-06 Thread Kevin Keijzer
It's not just gnome-weather; it seems to be a more generic problem in
geocule

** Package changed: gnome-weather (Ubuntu) => geoclue-2.0 (Ubuntu)

** Summary changed:

- gnome-weather / geoclue polls wpasupplicant SSID list too often
+ geoclue polls wpasupplicant SSID list too often

** Description changed:

  Steps to reproduce:

- 1. Install GNOME Weather (sudo apt install gnome-weather)
+ 1. Install GNOME Weather, or GNOME Clocks, or basically anything that
determines your location
  2. In GNOME Control Center > Privacy, enable Location Services
- 3. Open GNOME Weather at least once, so it embeds a forecast in the
notifications menu
+ 3. Open the application requesting your location
  4. Do something latency-sensitive on WiFi, like SSH or ping
-

  Hypothesis:

- When GNOME Weather is running in the background and location services
- are enabled, it seems to tell geoclue to use NetworkManager's D-Bus API
- for letting wpasupplicant scan for surrounding networks very often. This
- causes lots of latency spikes and visible lag.
+ When an application requesting your location is running in the
+ background and location services are enabled, it seems to tell geoclue
+ to use NetworkManager's D-Bus API for letting wpasupplicant scan for
+ surrounding networks very often. This causes lots of latency spikes and
+ visible lag.

Typing characters in an SSH session is rather laggy, and running
something as simple as mtr 192.168.1.1 will show that every ~20 seconds
the latency is over 100ms and packet loss occurs, while it's normally
around 1.5ms with no packet loss. There are probably lots of other
issues caused by this as well.

When a WiFi adapter scans for SSID's, it has to switch channels,
delaying or dropping traffic in the meanwhile. This is what causes the
  lag and packet loss.

- Disabling location services in gnome-control-center and disabling
- automatic location in gnome-weather solves this issue.
+ On phones connected to LTE this may make sense, but on a laptop which
+ uses WiFi as its active network, this is detrimental to the connection.
+
+ Changing /etc/geoclue/geoclue.conf to disable WiFi scanning, solves this
+ problem:
+
+ [wifi]
+ enable=false
+
+ On Ubuntu 18.04, this setting was the default. On Ubuntu 20.04, it has
+ changed to 'true'.

  Expected behaviour:

- Don't break WiFi for a weather report.
-
+ Don't break WiFi for a location scan.

[Bug 1872726] Re: [Ubuntu 20.04] net/mlx5e: Fix endianness handling in pedit mask

2020-05-06 Thread Frank Heimes
Kernel SRU request submitted:
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-team/2020-May/thread.html#109623
Changing status to 'In Progress'.

** Description changed:

+ SRU Justification:
+ ==
+
+ [Impact]
+
+ * An issue with the endianess handling in the Mellanox mlx5 driver was
+ found.
+
+ * The mask value is provided as 64 bit and has to be casted in either 32
+ or 16 bit.
+
+ * On big endian systems the wrong half was casted which resulted in an
+ all zero mask.
+
+ [Fix]
+
+ * Backport: https://launchpadlibrarian.net/476243025/0001-net-mlx5-fix-
+ endianness-handling-in-pedit-mask.patch
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * An s390x system with RoCE Express 2(.1) system is needed and the
+ driver loaded.
+
+ * Check whether the mask value stays zero, or if it also get's non-zero
+ values.
+
+ * Functional testing is currently only doable by IBM, since we only have
+ RoCE (1) hardware that uses the mlx4 driver.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * There is regression potential is moderate, since:
+
+ * the RoCE 2(.1) cards are pretty new and not very wide spread, yet
+
+ * the fix got already upstream accepted with 5.6
+
+ * However, at the end the patch modifies Mellanox common code
+ (drivers/net/ethernet/mellanox/mlx5/core/en_tc.c) to make the driver
+ work correctly on s390x.
+
+ * but the changes were reviewed, signed off by Mellanox engineers and
+ are very limited.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ * The above backport (patch-file) is based on commit
+ 404402abd5f90aa90a134eb9604b1750c1941529 404402abd5f9 "net/mlx5e: Fix
+ endianness handling in pedit mask" - the backport was needed for getting
+ it applied to focal master-next.
+
+ * The commit itself got upstream accepted with kernel v5.6, hence should
+ automatically land in 'gorilla', but since gorilla is still based on
+ 5.4, I'm adding 'G' to this SRU.
+
+ __
+
Issue found in the Mellanox mlx5 device driver:

The mask value is provided as 64 bit and has to be casted in
either 32 or 16 bit. On big endian systems the wrong half was
casted which resulted in an all zero mask.

[Bug 1877108] [NEW] Ubuntu Dock appears on the display opposite to that indicated on Appearance tab

2020-05-06 Thread Paul White
Public bug reported:

I am unable to use ubuntu-bug to raise this report as I have upgraded to
a new version in -proposed to test bug 1866088. This issue was not
addressed in that bug fix.

paul@n1644:~$ apt policy gnome-control-center
gnome-control-center:
  Installed: 1:3.36.2-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 1:3.36.2-0ubuntu1
  Version table:

100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 1:3.36.1-1ubuntu5 500
500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages

I am using a a laptop with an external monitor set up as follows:

Display 1 is the laptop's built-in monitor
Display 2 is the external monitor set as being the primary display

To reproduce:

1) Go to the Appearance tab
2) "Show on" will indicate on which display the dock is being shown
3) In my case it is set to "1. Built in display" but it appears on the second
or primary display
4) Change the setting and the dock will move but...
5) In my case if I change to "2. GKE 24 (Primary display)" the dock appears on
the built-in display.

2020-05-06 Thread Paul White
Thanks Sebastien, I'll mark this one as verified on the basis that the
dock can be moved freely from one display to the other and back, and
that no crash occurs.

I've created bug 1877108 for the incorrect reporting of which display
the dock is currently being shown on.

[Bug 1877080] Re: rmlint-gui a.k.a. Shreeder does not work in Ubuntu Focal Fossa 20.04

2020-05-06 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1877080/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Yes: If a user has booted his system with Secure Boot enables and needs
to perform a standalone zfcp dump, the HMC panel keeps the setting of
Secure Boot enablement. Thus, if it was enabled for normal zfcp boot, it
remains enabled for zfcp dump, and if the zfcpdump kernel is not signed,
the dump fails and probably part of the memory content is lost.
Secondly, if dumpconf is being used, the automatic zfcpdump will fail,
too.

[Bug 1876821] Re: [needs-packaging] gtk+3.24: gtk+3.22 is discontinued

2020-05-06 Thread Fabian Keßler
I fully agree, that this is not good for a stable update. But on the other
side, developers are forced to discontinue the support for a stable Ubuntu LTS
like 18.04, because there are no updates which are necessary to run the
application without the newest bugfixes.
This will then also force end-users to switch the OS or drop the use of the now
not supported end user software, thus the complete sense of a LTS is therefore
broken.

Also switching to a newer ubuntu version is mostly ok for many end-
users, but not for those who use a distribution building on top of
Ubuntu 18.04 eg. Linux Mint(, the next release will come end of June).

As a developer I wished there would be a rolling release cycle APT
repository for LTS Ubuntu distributions, containing at least all stable
packages with active support.

[Bug 1877111] [NEW] disable consoleconf during UC20 install mode

2020-05-06 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

 * UC20 displays consoleconf during installation. But it should not be
shown. This is because the device is booted into ephemeral mode, and
will be rebooted loosing any consoleconf configuration.

[Test Case]

 * Build new core20 snap with new consoleconf package
 * Build new uc20 image with said core20 snap
 * Boot it, and observe that no consoleconf is shown during install
 * Observe that after reboot, consoleconf is shown.

[Regression Potential]

 * Small change to the consoleconf wrapper script, which is only used on
core systems / gettys, and otherwise is coded safely (traps any errors
and restarts).

[Other Info]

 * This change is merged into subiquity master & uploaded to groovy.
