[Bug 82381] network-admin generates chat script with invalid modem init string

2007-01-30 Thread Alex Mauer
Public bug reported:

network-admin creates a chatscript that contains the modem
initialization string ATFH0M0 which is invalid. First, it is IMHO
not good to initialize the modem back to factory defaults without
prompting the user(F). Second, if there is anything after the ATF it
needs to include the profile number first. That is, ATF is valid (the
modem assumes profile 0) but ATFH0 is incorrect (because 'H' is not a
valid parameter for F)

Note that the last statement is not necessarily correct for all modems,
but I believe it is for many, and it definitely is for mine. Further,
all modems which support the AT command set should accept an ATF0 --
that is, 'ATF0H0M0' should be correct in more cases than 'ATFH0M0'

[Bug 75654] Re: deleted songs listed again when using library watch

One situation I can think of: A shared music library (for example,
shared between myself and my wife) on a network drive. I want to load

likes (and vice versa). Since they’re not mine and one of us does want
them, I don’t want to delete the files…but I just want to remove them

[Bug 479226] Re: Cannot authenticate using PolicyKit dialogs with domain credentials, prompts for local user

2012-01-23 Thread Alex Mauer
I’m not sure that’s the entire problem/solution, actually.

I think this is saying that a likewise-open user, which has been added
to the local group 'admin' (and so should have admin privileges), does
not get admin privileges, or they are limited in some way.

Not that the AD 'domain admins' should have local admin rights (perhaps
they should, but that’s something different)

[Bug 920570] [NEW] Cannot edit network connections

2012-01-23 Thread Alex Mauer
Public bug reported:

I have set my system up to use likewise-open for authentication (joining
a Windows domain).

I logged in to my system as a domain user, this worked OK.

I added the domain user to the local admin group ('adduser me admin')

When logged in as this user I can use sudo and the like, so it seems to
recognize this account as an admin.

However, this user cannot edit network connections (wired or wireless).

[Bug 920609] [NEW] likewise-open users with migrated home directory won’t decrypt automatically

2012-01-23 Thread Alex Mauer
Public bug reported:

I am using likewise-open for authentication against Active Directory.

I log in as a domain user to create their home dir, and then run
'ecryptfs-migrate-home -u USER' to encrypt the user’s home directory.
This seems to work as expected.

However, when I try to log in, the user’s home directory is not
automatically decrypted. (and so of course I cannot log in to the GUI).
If I log in at the console and run 'ecryptfs-mount-private', it works
fine and I can then log in to the display manager.

[Bug 832303] [NEW] Option “Display incoming events in the notification area” is unclear

2011-08-23 Thread Alex Mauer
Public bug reported:

The meaning of the option “Display incoming events in the notification
area” is not clear. At first glance it looks like it would do what it
says, which is control whether incoming events (messages) are shown in
the notification area. However, what it actually does is “automatically
open incoming events” (when off), or “hide incoming events in the
notification area instead of opening them in the chat window”. This
option’s description should be made more clear. See bug #652568 and its
duplicates for several cases where this problem has bitten people

[Bug 831604] Re: likewise-open users don’t get ecryptfs home directory

2011-09-06 Thread Alex Mauer
I think it would need to encrypt the home directory at the same time it
creates it. I guess this is what the system adduser script does with its
--encrypted-home option.

I'm not sure the details of what adduser does, but I think it may just
do 'ecryptfs-migrate-home' after it makes the dir. The following links
are relevant:

[Bug 762032] [NEW] alt+tab broken with click-to-focus off

2011-04-15 Thread Alex Mauer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

If compiz is configured with “Click to Focus” off, then alt+Tab is broken:
* Open a full-screen/maximized application, such as a browser
* Open a normally-windowed application such as a terminal or pidgin’s buddy list
* Move the focus to the browser (alt+tab)
* Keeping the mouse cursor where the windowed application will *not* be, press
alt+tab.

Focus will remain with the full-screen app, while it should move to the window
switched to by alt+tab.

[Bug 314623] Re: likewise-open: allows lockout while disconnected

2009-04-28 Thread Alex Mauer
I tested by disabling the network (unchecking Enable networking on the
network manager applet in GNOME). I've also done it by simply
unplugging the network cable.

I used 'su - $USER', using a gnome-terminal session while logged in to
the GNOME desktop.

One incorrect, then one correct, allowed me to log in (using cached
credentials).
Two incorrect, then one correct, allowed me to log in (again, using cached
credentials).

Three incorrect, then one correct, did not allow me to log in, giving
the above error.

'sudo -i' gave similar results, although it prompted multiple times for
the password at one invocation rather than simply reporting
'Authentication failure' at the first failed attempt on each invocation.

In both cases, a correct password on the fourth or greater attempt will
display the error.

[Bug 322827] [NEW] libpam-gnome-keyring: keyring password should be updated or cleared when a new system password is used

2009-01-29 Thread Alex Mauer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libpam-gnome-keyring

On a system set up to authenticate to an external service, such as LDAP,
Active Directory, or Kerberos: When the password is changed on the
external service (e.g. due to a forgotten password+reset or a forced
periodic password change where the user happened to log in on a
different machine when the change came due), the keyring is not
unlockable with the new password. This means that unless the user
remembers their old password, and knows how to change the keyring
password, the keyring must be wiped, losing all the keys stored in the
keyring.

This bug is distinct from several other similar bugs, in that it the
other bugs relate to the keyring password not being updated properly
when the password is changed on the current system. This one concerns
only the situation where the password is changed externally.

One possible (but very ugly) solution is to simply drop the current
keyring/passphrase and start anew when the user successfully logs in
using a password that doesn't unlock the keyring. Better would be to
somehow change the keyring password so that the keyring can be unlocked
with the new password.

This is in Ubuntu Jaunty.

[Bug 322827] Re: libpam-gnome-keyring: keyring password should be updated or cleared when a new system password is used

2009-01-29 Thread Alex Mauer
This is not the job of the tools used to change the password. It is not
the responsibility of say, Active Directory Users and Computers or
ldappasswd or kpasswd to know that libpam-gnome-keyring is used on
some arbitrary machine elsewhere and somehow go and change the keyring
password on that other machine. It is clearly the responsibility of
gnome-keyring to handle the situation gracefully when the password has
been changed elsewhere, outside of its control.

Fair enough, it *attempts* to open the keyring with the login password.
On a fresh install of Ubuntu, the passwords are the same, so the process
is invisible to the user until the password is changed.

[Bug 788367] [NEW] wired 802.1x never prompts for password

2011-05-25 Thread Alex Mauer
Public bug reported:

I have set up a wired Ethernet connection to use 802.1x (EAP-PEAP-
MSCHAPv2) It works fine as long as I have entered and saved a password.
However, if I set it to “Ask for this password every time” it pops up a
dialog with no place to enter the password. A screenshot of the dialog
is attached.

Obviously, if the option “Ask for this password every time” is checked,
it should actually do so, as it does for wireless connections.

[Bug 567582] [NEW] upgrade from 0.68 (hardy ) to 0.72 (lucid) doesn’t work

2010-04-20 Thread Alex Mauer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: glpi

When trying to upgrade glpi from hardy to lucid, it tries to apply the
change in /usr/share/dbconfig-common/data/glpi/upgrade/mysql/0.72.1.
This includes the line, ALTER TABLE `glpi_tracking` ADD INDEX `date_mod`
(`date_mod`); Unfortunately, the column date_mod doesn’t yet exist in
version 0.68 from Hardy. So the upgrade fails. Presumably some more
database changes need to be included

[Bug 442436] Re: empathy contact list does not appear in window-picker applet

2010-01-17 Thread Alex Mauer
It is reproducible.

Specific steps:

1. Launch empathy. It will bring up a wizard offering to create an account.
2. Press cancel. The contact list entry will appear in the window list and the
window picker.
3. Close the contact list window. Now the entry is gone as it should be.
4. Launch empathy from the Ubuntu menu. It will bring up the wizard again.
Press cancel.
5. Note that the contact list window appears on screen, but not in the Window
Picker applet, or in the Window List applet.
Optional:
6. Launch Empathy from indicator-applet. The entry for the contact list now
appears in Window Picker and Window List.

[Bug 508834] [NEW] wizard shown repeatedly when launched from Ubuntu menu

2010-01-17 Thread Alex Mauer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

If Empathy has no accounts configured, it will show the New Account
wizard every time the launcher is run from the Ubuntu menu. However, it
will not if launched from the indicator-applet.

This behaviour should be made consistent. If Empathy is already
running, it should only show the contact list. If it’s not, and there
are no accounts, only then should it display the wizard.

I’ve upgraded empathy to the Lucid version, and the only change is that
in step 4 it doesn’t bring up the wizard. The contact list still
doesn’t appear in either window list unless opened through indicator-

[Bug 476953] Re: polkit-grant-helper-pam general protection fault (SIGSEGV) when using Kerberos

2010-01-18 Thread Alex Mauer
I’m seeing the same problem.

One interesting thing to look at is /var/log/auth.log:

Jan 19 00:40:11 drowelf polkit-agent-helper-1[5553]: (pam_krb5): none:
pam_sm_authenticate: entry (0x0)
Jan 19 00:40:11 drowelf polkit-agent-helper-1[5553]: (pam_krb5): user:
attempting authentication as u...@kerberos.domain
Jan 19 00:40:15 drowelf polkit-agent-helper-1[5553]: (pam_krb5): user:
pam_sm_authenticate: exit (success)
Jan 19 00:40:15 drowelf polkit-agent-helper-1[5553]: (pam_krb5): user: cannot

I think this and bug #476069 are probably closely related if not
different symptoms of the same bug.
