Re: [Bug 126369] Re: kernel disables irq after 10 minutes

2007-08-21 Thread Don Spaulding II
I've just booted with the irqpoll kernel option and again it hangs at the
"Preparing Restricted Drivers" step for about 10 minutes. Aside from that,
nothing appears any different from the output previously posted, except that
I don't receive any warnings about disabling irq 23. I would consider this
an acceptable workaround if it wasn't for the 10 minute boot-up time.
Here's the info I have one more time (this is while running with the irqpoll
kernel option):

home page which includes imbedded YouTube videos

Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. As kolya found, this issue is
most likely related to the update in Firefox that now runs certain
plugin processes outside of the browser in order to prevent plugins from
crashing the entire browser. Can you please go into "about:config" and
toggle "dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.libflashplayer.so" to "false" and see if
that resolves the issue? If it does, then this is a duplicate of bug
513887.

[Bug 472953] [NEW] Linksys WUSB54G won't connect to wireless network with karmic kernel

This hardware worked fine with Jaunty.
I did a clean install of Karmic and can no longer connect to my wireless

the router on the wireless network list and select it. After a few moments it
times out and
is not connected.
As a trouble shooting test, I installed a Jaunty kernel and the adapter
SUCCESSFULLY
connected. The kernel that worked was installed from:

[Bug 432728] [NEW] Bad punctuation in install

2009-09-18 Thread Don C Stokes
Public bug reported:

In the installation of Ubuntu Desktop 9.10 Alpha 6:
The following message is displayed during the install:

The installation will finish soon, we hope you enjoy using Ubuntu!

This text is two separate sentences and should read:

The installation will finish soon. We hope you enjoy using Ubuntu!

If you feel the two sentences are very closely linked, the comma could
be a semicolon, but I don't feel that is appropriate here.

[Bug 1842785] [NEW] Freeze after waking up from suspend on a Ryzen 3000 based system

2019-09-04 Thread Don Gi Min
Public bug reported:

My system is a newly build Ryzen 3600 based system with Vega 56
graphics.

On suspend wakeup, the entire system locks up. A workaround is booting
with linux kernel version 4.19.69.

Using newer linux versions (5.3-rc7) did not fix the issue.

The motherboard is an MSI B450I gaming plus ac board; I've loaded up
both the official non-beta BIOS (7A40vA8) and the newest beta BIOS
(7A40vA91) and both have this issue.

No dmesg logs are available after the suspend wakeup (last message is
putting the system to sleep)

I have a r8169 and iwlwifi based ethernet and wifi cards, but I've
tentatively isolated that those two are not an issue by blacklisting the
respective modules.

[Bug 1886016] [NEW] OEM mode - and beyond

2020-07-02 Thread Don B. Cilly
Public bug reported:

As suggested here -
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+question/691633 -
I'm putting this as a bug report, even though it's mainly a Feature
request.

Not copying user settings to /etc/skel and not configuring /etc/fstab on
the new user installed are bugs, though, even for the intended use.

I've been experimenting with Ubiquity's OEM installation (on neon User).
What I was trying to achieve was:

· Install neon on a test system.
· Customise it to my liking
· Make a tarball of it that I could send to my customers, friends and relations
- so they could install it as such.

What I managed to achieve was:
. Install it (in OEM mode)
· Boot it and customise it (even though it did not copy the personal settings
to /etc/skel
· Successfully copy the OEM install (prepared for "shipping") to another
partition and boot it.

After "minimal setup" on the final install, the newly created user's settings
disappeared.
All installed apps were there, but not configured.
Copying the settings to /etc/skel before "shipping" worked. Why the installer
doesn't do that to start with is a bit... mysterious.

What I could not achieve was:
· Copy the install partition to a different machine and boot it successfully.
Boot fails with multiple hardware issues.

Since the (let's call it) mini-installer at first boot does say
"configuring hardware", I was hoping the first boot itself would be
somewhat "hardware-agnostic" - like the ISO boot is. It isn't.

I was hoping someone on this team would want to look into making a "universal
OEM-mode installer" feature.
Which I believe would open a world of possibilities for Linux installs - not
least of which finally creating an option to install it without "live media" -
or rather obscure and failure-prone grub-ISO-booting - which IMO should
definitely be available.

[Bug 1745185] [NEW] If apt-get upgrade is run on mysql server when the server is disabled, the upgrade fails.

2018-01-24 Thread Don C Stokes
Public bug reported:

Since I only use the mysql server for development, I tend to keep the server
disabled with systemctl. If mysql server is upgraded while the service is
disabled, apt-get fails. To remedy this, I must run "systemctl enable mysqld"
before "apt-get upgrade". Since I found a work around, it isn't a big deal, but
a less experienced user may have trouble diagnosing this. Possible solutions
are:
1) Better error message
2) If the server must be running for upgrade, the upgrade could start it. Maybe
prompting first.

[Bug 990836] [NEW] Ubuntu 12.4 Desktop (32 bit) freezes after install on HP dv7-3183cl

2012-04-28 Thread Don C Stokes
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 12.4 Desktop (32 bit) freezes after install on HP dv7-3183cl.
The install media was booted from a USB drive. Live mode works fine and the
install finished successfully.
After boot, the boot menu is displayed, then the splash screen. After that the
screen flickers a few times and then remains blank. The keyboard gives no
response (no caps lock toggle or switching to other consoles).
I have tried to start the X server in recovery mode and it will not start.
I have re installing three times and the issue remains.
This laptop has nvidia GEFORCE with CUDA video.
Specs:
GeForce G105M
16 CUDA Cores
VBIOS Version 70.18.1f.00.2e
Memory: 512MB
Memory Interface: 64-bit

I have installed 11.10, and the machine works fine.

I solved the issue using the following links

apt-get autoremove

apt-get clean

UNUSCONF=$(dpkg -l|grep "^rc"|awk '{print $2}')

apt-get remove --purge $UNUSCONF

NEWKERNEL=$(uname -r|sed 's/-*[a-z]//g'|sed 's/-386//g')

ADDKERNEL="linux-(image|headers|ubuntu-modules|restricted-modules)"

METAKERNEL="linux-(image|headers|restricted-

UNUSKERNELS=$(dpkg -l|awk '{print $2}'|grep -E $ADDKERNEL |grep -vE
$METAKERNEL|grep -v $NEWKERNEL)

apt-get remove --purge $UNUSKERNELS

update-grub

*** than after a reboot.. using Synaptic Package Manager.. reinstalled

P.S. I guess Upgrading from lubuntu 15.04 with 3.19 version of vmlinuz
to 15.10 doesnt cleanup all the old upgrades...

[Bug 828917] [NEW] When printing a pdf in duplex mode using Document Viewer 2.32.0, text is missing from every second page, horizontal lines are printed instead.

2011-08-18 Thread Don ter Beek
Public bug reported:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System ->
About Ubuntu
I am using 64 bit Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat).

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname' or
by checking in Software Center
$apt-cache policy evince
evince:
  Installed: 2.32.0-0ubuntu1.1
  Candidate: 2.32.0-0ubuntu1.1
  Version table:
 *** 2.32.0-0ubuntu1.1 0
500 http://nl.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick-updates/main amd64
Packages
500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick-security/main amd64
Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 2.32.0-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://nl.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick/main amd64 Packages

3) What you expected to happen
I use this package to view .pdf files. I expected the .pdf I wanted to print to
be printed as it appears on the screen.

4) What happened instead
Every odd sheet is printed as it should, even sheets contain horizontal lines
as shown on the image file I attached. I use the words 'odd' and 'even' to
refer to the sheets printed (as opposed to: page numbers).

I opened the file using Foxit Reader in Windows XP Professional. Duplex
printing works as it should.

Raymond,

Thanks for the help. I'm fairly new to Linux OSs - but once I get a
direction to head in I find it's easy to locate specific instructions.
So far the fix has worked.

[Bug 613288] Re: wubi installation failed - boot configuration store could not be opened

2010-10-09 Thread James Don Book
I found that the quality/cleanliness of the install CD is quite
critical. I had several failed wubi installs with various problems. I
looked at the disk and it had a few finger prints on it, no scratches.
Once I cleaned it with one of those CD cleaners, the install went
without a hitch. I guess cleanliness IS next to Ubuntuness (or
Wubiness).

It's not perfectly clear whether this bug happens on the Live CD, or on

clarifying which package this bug is related to.

[Bug 1666203] Re: pam_tty_audit failed in pam_open_session

2019-02-02 Thread Don van der Haghen
Attached patch (which is based on pam_1.1.8-3.6ubuntu2) fixes the issue for
Ubuntu 18.04/Bionic
Following fix was implemented as mentioned by the reporter of the LP bug:
https://github.com/linux-pam/linux-pam/commit/c5f829931a22c65feffee16570efdae036524bee

I tested the patch and it indeed resolves the issue: pam_tty_audit now
works as expected and users are still able to login after adding:
session required pam_tty_audit.so enable=root
to
/etc/pam.d/common-session

"aureport --tty" shows the expected output.

  * Fix: pam_tty_audit failed in pam_open_session (LP: #1666203)

The patch has also been submitted to Debian.

[Bug 1666203] Re: pam_tty_audit failed in pam_open_session

2019-02-04 Thread Don van der Haghen
Thank you both very much for the responses.

Toru: I just tested this on another 16.04 system (now with kernel
4.4.0-142-generic) and was unable to reproduce the issue there also. I
was able to reproduce the issue on both Bionic systems I tested however.
So there seems to be a difference between Xenial and Bionic.

Patrik: I believe LTS patches are required to be as minimal as possible
to minimize regression risk. It appears that the bug is resolved without
the change you mentioned. I looked at the code quickly and couldn't
determine whether this change is strictly necessary as the variable that
is initialized doesn't seem to be used within the module itself. Should
you disagree, then please report back.

I would like to ask a sponsor to review the debdiff and give feedback
about what changes are desired to get the patch accepted. I will then
also test the disco release.

Any feedback or additional information is more than welcome, I'm just
trying to move this issue forward as well as I can.

[Bug 1809682] Re: "systemctl enable corosync-qdevice.service" fails

2019-02-08 Thread Don van der Haghen
Attached debdiff, based on corosync (2.4.3-0ubuntu1) for Ubuntu
18.04/bionic removes the debian/corosync-qdevice.init script from the
package. If already installed previously, it removes the /etc/init.d
/corosync-qdevice script through the corosync-qdevice.postinst script
upon package upgrade.

I also tried to reproduce the issue on Debian 9.7.0: On Debian the
package also includes and installs the same script. However on Debian
systemctl prefers to use systemd service definitions instead of the init
scripts, therefore the issue doesn't occur on Debian.

I would like to kindly ask a sponsor to review the patch and let me know
which changes would be required to get it accepted.

Thank you very much in advance.

[Bug 1669257] Re: 16.04 / 18.04 - Snort 2.9.7 is EOL at March 13!

2020-01-02 Thread Don van der Haghen
18.04 still uses Snort 2.9.7.
Current community rules
(https://snort.org/downloads/community/community-rules.tar.gz) are incompatible
with this version.

** Summary changed:

- 16.04 Snort 2.9.7 is EOL at March 13!
+ 16.04 / 18.04 - Snort 2.9.7 is EOL at March 13!
