The password was not entered in at all due to the keyboard keys not working when prompted to type password. This happened on all installations requiring password confirmation in Ubuntu 11.04 Then I'm not sure, because this should work, could you please clearify: 1. Does this happen with all installations (including software center/synaptic/etc), or only installations through the terminal? 2. When typing your password in the terminal it will not show any stars or dots, however it should be registered. So just typing the password and pressing enter as usual should work. [Bug 848607] Re: unable to complete installation of audacity or amarok due to inability to type password when prompted in terminal
It would also be possible to add this PPA through Software Sources in the Software Center. Open Software Sources and add the PPA (ppa:kubuntu- ppa/backports) to Other Software. Once this has been added you should be able to install or upgrade the packages offered by the PPA as normal. See also http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/how-to-add-a-ppa-to-software- sources-in-ubuntu/ which explains the process in detail, with screenshots.
