[Bug 121653] Re: [gutsy] fglrx breaks over suspend/resume
Yes, it was made clear in the release notes and article that the latest driver still does not have 2.6.23 kernel support, which is most likely a euphemism for not handling the SLUB allocator which is default in 2.6.23. However, the bright side according to the article is that next month's drop is supposed to include it. As an aside, 8.42.3 does allow use of compiz without xgl since it has AIGLX support built into fglrx. The sprintf creates a string containing the month name and day number, separated by a space, and with a trailing comma. That means that if the day number is between 1 and 9, the length of the final string will be strlen(monthname)+3, or strlen(monthname)+4 for a 2-digit day (excluding the trailing null). As the variable is allocated as 10 bytes, then the month name can be no longer than 5 characters (noting the trailing null). Therefore, this code

if it helps your investigations, 8.4 is the first in the 8.x series that works reliably for me on suspend/resume and various crashes/hangs I was getting on any earlier version of fglrx. I have now had a 5 or 6 days of uptime on 8.4 and multiple suspend/resumes (with no changes to the acpi defaults about post video/save state, etc.) with absolutely no issues. [Bug 204733] [NEW] Nautilus location bar does not show the correct folder when navigating using the main toolbar, and then Nautilus main window becomes unresponsive [Hardy Beta]
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus When quickly navigating the filesystem with the main toolbar, the location bar can't keep up and displays the wrong folders. The Nautilus main window then becomes unresponsive to clicks. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open Nautilus 2. Go a few folders deep in the tree (for ex. I navigated to /home/phil/Pictures/, but it can be anywhere) * Notice how the folder contents displayed in the main window and the folder indicated by the location bar both match. 3. Now using the main toolbar (larger buttons above the location bar), double-click the 'Up' arrow quickly. * You expect nautilus to navigate up two parent folders, since you clicked 'Up' twice. However you'll notice that the main window is correct (showing the contents of /home in my case), but the location bar still shows the location only one parent folder up (/home/phil/ in my ex.) as if it only registered a single click to the 'Up' button. * You'll also notice that now when you double-click on folders and files in the main window that nothing happens. Clicking the 'Up' button on the main toolbar slowly allows the location bar to update correctly and does not freeze the main window. I believe Nautilus should register a rapid succession of clicks. I guess this is a responsiveness issue, but it is extremely annoying when you're trying to quickly navigate the filesystem and the main window freezes. * Using Hardy Heron Beta; 2.6.24-12-generic kernel; nautilus 1:2.22.0-0ubuntu3 ProblemType: Bug Architecture: amd64 Date: Fri Mar 21 13:06:17 2008 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.04 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/nautilus NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia ath_hal Package: nautilus 1:2.22.0-0ubuntu3 PackageArchitecture: amd64 ProcEnviron: PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: nautilus Uname: Linux 2.6.24-12-generic x86_64 ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug -- Nautilus location bar does not show the correct folder when navigating using the main toolbar, and then Nautilus main window becomes unresponsive [Hardy Beta] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/204733 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi Mads, Thanks for the patch. Still had X errors. Hardy (bulletproofX?) overwrote the new xorg.conf so I recopied it and made it read only (chmod 444). Still X errors. Then I gave up fighting bulletproofX... [Bug 213104] Re: Package internet in ubuntu-docs: press return instead of press enter
Thanks for reporting this bug. Return seems to be the standard name for this key - not all keyboards have an Enter key (the one on the numeric keypad), but many do call the Return key Enter. As such, I don't think that the term should be changed. [Bug 211152] Re: OpenOffice.org Writer crashes when editing Page Style in html documents
Ok I'm now getting the exact same problem on my desktop and laptop using the Hardy daily build AMD64 version (http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily/current/hardy-alternate-amd64.iso 09-Apr-2008 07:32). I get the problem on a clean install on both machines AND during the Live CD session (also on both machines). This makes me think that the bug can't be just me. Do I have log files or the like that I could attach that might help out? [Bug 216134] Re: Kernel make broken: No rule to make target `arch/i386/kernel/asm-offsets.c'
I'm not getting that problem with either Ubuntu's kernel source (2.6.24.2) or the current stable vanilla kernel source (2.6.24.4). Maybe you missed something. My steps: 1) Upacked linux-2.6.24.2.tar.bz2 and linux-2.6.24.4.tar.bz2 to their own respective folders (/home/$USER/linux-2.6.24.2 and /home/$USER/linux-2.6.24.4) 2) Ran 'make mrproper' in each source folder to make sure they were cleaned out (the compiler will complain if you don't do this). 3) Ran 'make ARCH=$(uname -m) defconfig' to quickly produce a default configuration for my architecture. Did this for both kernel versions. 3) Ran the compile process 'make' for both versions. [Bug 147294] Re: 'Visual Effects' keyboard shortcuts not documented in help
Hi Michael, Thanks for the extensive patch, it looks really good. I found a few reasonably minor issues which need to be addressed: * cursor, use the Super+1 = cursor, use Super+1 * For keycombos, use the keycombo and keycap tags rather +, i.e. Ctrl+Shift+Alt = keycombokeycapCtrl/keycapkeycapShift/keycapkeycapAlt/keycap/keycombo * It is used to change viewports - as far as I can see, workspace should be used instead of viewport. It might also be beneficial to create a link to the GNOME documentation which explains what a workspace is. * By default there are, besides the core, the main plugins of Compiz as well as the main and extra plugins of Compiz Fusion installed - the wording here seems a bit confusing. * The sect2 sections you've used should all have an id. * The note about the Super key is important enough to be a separate note, or at least its own paragraph. * Default: Initiate cube free rotation - this seems confusing, I'm not sure what is meant * Perhaps change the title from Commands for default plugins to Keyboard shortcuts for the default visual effects -- 'Visual Effects' keyboard shortcuts not documented in help https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/147294 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
