[Bug 53060] Re: HP Compaq nw9440 - hibernation problem

2008-11-12 Thread drink
I know this bug is closed, just want to add that it works on Intrepid
Beta on my nw9440 EZ901AA#ABA (it's important to quote these codes, HPQ
owners! nw9440 refers to MANY different systems!)

Re: [Bug 182455] Re: [needs-packaging] Micropolis

2009-05-11 Thread drink
The packaging information should be changed so that the trademark Simcity
which is still active and held by EA is not being used without permission.
Every other packager and indeed the author of Micropolis was very careful
not to make this mistake.

Re: [Bug 242382] Re: Compaq nw9440 nvidia QuadroFX 1500M graphics errors

2011-04-28 Thread drink
For my part this turned out to be a die bonding error that HP knew was a
problem with my laptop, but it took me literally over a day on the phone to
get someone to admit it and send me another machine... after two
technician visits that left my laptop unbootable and not just glitching.
Record as HP's fault :)

I have this problem on an install of lucid from the original alternate
ISO and upgraded from there, i386 on a P4 with ATI (Mobility). Compiz is
working nicely but gnome-settings-daemon usually doesn't start. No
problems on my natty desktop.

[Bug 274461] Re: gnome-system-monitor window is semi-transparent when using compiz

2010-11-01 Thread drink
It is stupid to have the apps set opacity, that is Compiz' job. If you
put the settings in the apps the user has to control them per-app. If
you let the compositing manager handle opacity then all the settings are
in one place.

It's not a feature, it's an intentional bug, and it's done the WRONG
way. I would go so far as to say it's done the anti-Unix way, which is
to have small tools that work well and don't have too many features.
This is definitely a feature that doesn't belong in the tool since the
typical desktop already has a mechanism for managing this.

BUG.

[Bug 492782] Re: Mouse cursor disappears after restarting screen (xrandr / resume)

2010-11-08 Thread drink
I just found this bug by searching because I am having the problem ATM
with Maverick and Ubuntu on fresh install with nVidia drivers via repo.
Am not running unclutter (seeing some related bugs?) and more
interestingly was not having this problem on migrated install upgraded
through each step approximately since edgy or maybe feisty.

[Bug 208825] Re: yiff-server fails to install: Starting Y Sound Server: ERROR.

2010-06-16 Thread drink
if you run yiff manually you get an error about not being able to open
/dev/dsp

probably it needs wrapping with padsp, if that even works.

Still broken in Lucid! Fail, fail.

[Bug 568475] Re: [RV710] screen corruption : multiple cases : fast scrolling firefox error console - fast mouse movement - sometimes just so

2010-05-11 Thread drink
I've been having similar problems when smooth scrolling but not when
fast scrolling, so presumably it has to do with some sort of
acceleration problem in the driver. I've been having these problems with
every version of Lucid so far. I did not have them with Karmic. I can
trigger video corruption reliably by grabbing the scroll bar in firefox
or chromium and moving it quickly. Once corruption occurs it becomes
prevasive.

aaand another pic of the corruption, this showing damage to fonts.
the mouse pointer also becomes a big block (perhaps 100px or so?) of
noise. having more windows open at once makes it happen easier, e.g.
firefox and chromium.

I just noticed the workaround, and I have to say, not pushing out a
release with the workaround in it is unacceptable. I could perform the
workaround, but then I'd just get a prompt on my next upgrade. There's
been days to get this out already. Obviously the holdup is not testing.

[Bug 1078717] [NEW] keyboard and mouse nonfunctional at boot

2012-11-14 Thread drink
Public bug reported:

I used to have this problem, but it eventually went away, and now it's
back.

When I boot, my keyboard and mouse are nonfunctional. They become
functional if I wait, just about long enough to wake my slow Vista
netbook from sleep and log in via ssh. This is relevant because if I log
in via ssh, my keyboard and mouse start working. But if I wait, they
will start working on their own.

This is horribly frustrating.

I would report a problem through ubuntu-bug except apport tells me that
the report is for a package that is not installed when I run ubuntu-
bug.. and what would I report against, anyway?

[Bug 1189463] [NEW] cannot select text entry field on unlock screen

2013-06-10 Thread drink
Public bug reported:

Sometimes when I resume from suspend I cannot select the text entry
field so that I can enter my password, and the cursor is not in the box.
The keyboard is unresponsive, but the mouse works as I can click the
buttons, just not the text entry field. Then I have to reboot. I can't
even use the text console due to the typical nvidia console bug.

The Saucy ISO that I downloaded wouldn't boot on amd64. Stay classy.
I finally got dist-upgraded to 13.10 and this bug is still present.
I guess I'll just file this bug AGAIN. With the SAME NAME.

[Bug 1187343] [NEW] single-click on dock does not raise applications

It is now necessary to click the icon and then click it again in order

[Bug 1092093] [NEW] default kernel gives error bad magic number

2012-12-19 Thread drink
Public bug reported:

Selecting the default kernel gives error bad magic number. This
happened after upgrading to the -19 kernel. It's still happening with
the -21 kernel. I did not edit the conf file, this just started
happening after an upgrade. I waited for it to resolve itself with an
update, but it hasn't. I added to an old forum post about someone having
the same problem in 10.10 but I was told to open a new forum thread. I
opened a new bug instead, since it's obviously a bug, since it happened
on its own.

Yes, it happens whether I select it or it auto-selects due to timeout. All
was well until not this kernel but the last one.

Re: [Bug 1213357] Re: USB3 card does not come back from suspend in timely fashion

2013-08-25 Thread drink
I'd love to, but the nvidia won't dkms under the current mainline kernel.
If you would like me to try a particular mainline kernel version, I will do
that, but your suggestion does not work for me.

On Sat, Aug 17, 2013 at 10:19 AM, Christopher M. Penalver
christopher.m.penal...@gmail.com wrote:

drink, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available
following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the
daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you
tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the
 following tags:
 kernel-fixed-upstream
 kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
 example:
 kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.11-rc5

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon
next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As
 well, please remove the tag:
 needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following
 tags:
 kernel-bug-exists-upstream
 kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
 needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
 understanding.

 ** Description changed:

 - I have to lazy umount and re-mount the storage volume connected to my
 - USB3 adapter every time I come back from suspend. If I have it on USB2
 - then it works great, albeit slower.
+ When I come back from suspend, my USB storage volume is not mounted when
 + connected to USB3.

+ WORKAROUND: Manually umount and re-mount.
 +
 + WORKAROUND: Use USB2 port.
