I wasn't aware of any plans to undertake implementation, but sounds like you have a much better handle on the state of things than I. I'm happy to hear there are already efforts in play, so will withdraw this topic proposal as it is not my intention to cause any delays in this. I'll leave the driving to whomever's working on it. No but the full implementation seems like a hefty amount of work and I don't think anyone's going to be working implementation for this project full time. Correct me if I'm wrong. Like mpt said, it's been discussed now for a couple years but there hasn't been that much progress. A proof of concept would at least help in getting the design nailed down. If there's manpower available to do more than that, well that would be great. I too would love to see this available in some form or other for the LTS. Re: [Desktop12.04-Topic] Crash Database
I think this database would be just plain awesome! Some thoughts from the peanut gallery: I frequently don't submit crashes to launchpad because #1 I don't have time, or #2 am lacking an Internet connection at the time, so * If the system is configured to "report statistical data" in software sources can we assume that it's alright to collect crash data too? (#1) * If it wasn't selected during install, perhaps we can ask after the first crash. * we could save the apport crash reports into a directory so that when an internet connection is detected, a queue of crash reports can be uploaded at once. (#2) I think the whole thing should be as automatic as possible to get the most complete record of crashes as possible. ~Dereck “The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.” - Michelangelo On Sat, Oct 8, 2011 at 11:44 AM, Ted Gould wrote: > On Fri, 2011-10-07 at 15:39 -0700, Bryce Harrington wrote: > > For Precise, I don't think we want to try to undertake implementation, > > but it would be nice to get the design more fleshed out and perhaps do a > > proof of concept implementation. > > Is that decided? Is that decided? I was really hoping that we could get this for P as being able to keep crash reporting on after release would really help with successive LTS minor versions. Is there a way we could simplify the server side (just make it a generic frontend for Launchpad) to make the desktop side a reasonable deliverable for P? --Ted signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part -- ubuntu-desktop mailing list ubuntu-desktop@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-desktop
