This sounds a bit like the idea we had for the youtube videos. Practical
tutorials sort of thing. I wouldn't mind having both videos and text,
though as you say, there are existing tutorials for most major
applications. Doesn't mean we can't make our own.

I'm thinking about how documentation should be organized. Tutorials
would deserve their own section. If we have a main "Documentation" page
on our website, it could have several subpages, and one of them could be
something equivalent to "Tutorials", where you can find all sorts of
resources, either our own made material, or links to existing stuff.

So, I'm all for it.

Thanks Robert,

It might make sense to open Debian bug as well for those since that's
not a delta it makes sense to carry for Ubuntu only. Note that several
in the list are libs used by nothing so (e.g libyelp0), which means
there is little value spending work on those no?

For those packages I can install in Debian (pkg-gnome, pkg-evolution,
pkg-vala and friends) I'd prefer to do it immediately there. Feel free
to file a bug with patch in the BTS and X-Debbugs-CC me.

As Seb says, probably at first concentrate on the things that help you
to achieve a goal (e.g. cross-building some package).

mod-gearman

Hello, I installed the German module, but I'm having some

Does anyone have any idea what that might be?

It's show and tell time!

2015-10-22 Thread Nicholas Skaggs
UOS Time is here! UOS is the Ubuntu Online Summit we hold each cycle to
talk about what's happening in ubuntu. UOS 15.11 will be on November 3rd
- 5th.

I'm writing to encourage everyone to not only attend, but to also
consider presenting a session for the 'Show and Tell' track(1). Sessions
are open to everyone as a platform for sharing interesting and unique
things with the rest of the community. These sessions can be very short
(5 or 10 minutes) and are a great way to share about your work within
ubuntu.

This means things like demos, quick talks, and 'show and tell' type
things. A typical session may last 5-15 minutes, with time for
questions. It's a great way to spend a few minutes talking about
something you made, work on, or find interesting. Your demo can be
unscripted, and informal. *This does not have to be a technical talk or
demo*, though those are certainly welcomed. Please feel free to how off
design work, documentation, translation, interesting user tricks or
anything else that tickles your fancy!

Last cycle we had developers talking about new APIs, flavors teams doing
Q and A sessions and demos, users sharing tricks, and even a live
hacking session where we collectively worked on an application for the
phone. Check them out(2). I'd love to see an even greater representation
this time around.

Proposing a session(3) is simple to do, and there's even a webpage(4) to
help you! If you need help proposing, feel free to contact myself,
hggdh, David Calle, or Laura Czajkowski who are your friendly track
leads for this track. Once it's proposed the session will be assigned a
date and time. Myself or another track lead will try to follow-up with
you before UOS to ensure you are ready and the date and time is suitable
for you.

Thanks!

Thanks for the help with testing Ross, and flocculant!

Having some odd problems with the partioner, which I think needs some
attention before next LTS. But, otherwise installs seem to work fine.
I've already marked our ISOs ready for publishing, though I'm still
doing some testing.

Re: mod-gearman

2015-10-22 Thread Michael Loftis
You'll have about a million times better luck either on a Nagios list
or if there's one for the development of the module you've got. The
Ubuntu list is very unlikely to have anyone who can help you and since
your issue is clearly specific to those packages it would be a much
better effort to go ask them instead of here.
