The install process does check for updates (if an Internet connection is available), however they are not installed until the user requests it. This is done in order to speed the installation process, as downloading updates would otherwise be longer than the rest of the installation process combined. The user is notified of the availability of updates upon their first login, and can download and install them while exploring or customizing the system. -- - mdz -- Ubuntu-devel-discuss mailing list Ubuntu-devel-discuss@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-devel-discuss

True, but that's no excuse for not helping users with a moderate degree of technical literacy (surely one of Ubuntu's core constituencies) configure an essential piece of hardware. -- Ubuntu-devel-discuss mailing list Ubuntu-devel-discuss@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-devel-discuss

if the bug is already fixed on repositories, he could just do an update on the LiveCD before installing. Bug #96084
Is there any prospect of a workaround or installation CD update being issued to solve this bug, presumably associated with JMicron controller cards?
