I advise you not to use the "build it and they will come" approach: don't start out with a separate mailing list. Instead, build relevant discussion here or on ubuntu-devel; if it grows to the point where it crowds out other discussion, it can then be moved to a separate list. -- Colin Watson [cjwat...@ubuntu.com] -- Ubuntu-devel-discuss mailing list Ubuntu-devel-discuss@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-devel-discuss

Right, now what would you advise to have some momentum and have a mailing list for the same? There is also a possibility (a stretchable one though) that if a mailing list is there, it may attract people who have knowledge about the audio stack and may be instrumental in a. Canonical hiring them b. Getting a corner and better support which in turn leads to better user-experience. > -- > Mackenzie Morgan > http://ubuntulinuxtipstricks.blogspot.com > apt-get moo -- Regards, Shirish Agarwal My quotes in this email licensed under CC 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0/ http://flossexperiences.wordpress.com 065C 6D79 A68C E7EA 52B3 8D70 950D 53FB 729A 8B17 -- Ubuntu-devel-discuss mailing list Ubuntu-devel-discuss@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-devel-discuss

What maintainers? It's just one of the many things rolled into the "Foundations" category. There hasn't been someone whose sole focus was sound in about 2 years. Still, there are likely a handful of people that each know a bit about some part of the audio stack, and maybe put together there could be enough coverage to be helpful. -- Mackenzie Morgan http://ubuntulinuxtipstricks.blogspot.com apt-get moo signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part -- Ubuntu-devel-discuss mailing list Ubuntu-devel-discuss@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-devel-discuss

Hi Tony, While PA has its fair share of grief, its also alsa and other things. For e.g. look at this thread. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1041622 and one of the solutions which is proposed by one of the users. http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=6569156&postcount=12 Logically, it seems this should have been the way it should, but a. perhaps there are issues with the approach (perhaps some race condition or something else due to which ubuntu doesn't have initscripts for alsa, I don't know ) . b. The post might be an incorrect solution to the given problem. c. Perhaps, its a workaround but what the real issue is we don't know. Furthermore, if there is a mailing list there is also possibility of having some script or small utility/tool something which could be used to give useful info. (for the developer) and see how it can be a better experience to users (i.e. we) A centralized place for knowing and sharing solutions is much better as well as knowing who the people are who are maintaining audio stuff in ubuntu > -- > Tony Yarusso > http://tonyyarusso.com/ > -- Regards, Shirish Agarwal My quotes in this email licensed under CC 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0/ http://flossexperiences.wordpress.com 065C 6D79 A68C E7EA 52B3 8D70 950D 53FB 729A 8B17 -- Ubuntu-devel-discuss mailing list Ubuntu-devel-discuss@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-devel-discuss
Re: a ubuntu-audio mailing list?
After the experience of trying to get PA to output to a bluetooth speaker I'd also say it would be nice to have a dedicated are for this sort of thing, especially as PA matures and becomes more prominent. -- Tony Yarusso http://tonyyarusso.com/ -- Ubuntu-devel-discuss mailing list Ubuntu-devel-discuss@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-devel-discuss
a ubuntu-audio mailing list?
Hi all, I (and many others for sure) have benefited a lot by the ubuntu-x mailing list. The list has been instrumental (from a user's perspective) to getting know of workarounds, better documentation on the wiki (more importantly timely information) as well as perspective from the ubuntu-x developers POV and road-ahead from time to time. It would be great if something of similar nature could be also put up for the audio experience so we know who the maintainers are for ubuntu-audio and put up our difficulties/issues or workarounds we believe to them and know more. Looking forward to know if something like this is on cards. -- Regards, Shirish Agarwal My quotes in this email licensed under CC 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0/ http://flossexperiences.wordpress.com 065C 6D79 A68C E7EA 52B3 8D70 950D 53FB 729A 8B17 -- Ubuntu-devel-discuss mailing list Ubuntu-devel-discuss@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-devel-discuss
