Re: Testdrive fails to boot Saucy Beta 2, CPU not PAE supported

2013-09-26 Thread george fragos
Sorry for returning, but I was deceived in collecting cpuinfo and posting
in my messages: eventually, cat /proc/cpuinfo output includes the pae flag
for my cpu! Then, why running the Beta 2 for Saucy under
Testdrive-Virtualbox aborts with the same "pae feature not present" for the
cpu...?What do I do wrong...?

Unable to pick select another language for the section in 3.10

2013-09-26 Thread Fran Dieguez

Hi,

I'm using Ubuntu GNOME with GNOME 3.10 in English language. I've tried
to change to the Galician language but I cant find it in Region &
Language -> Language option list.

I've installed language-selector-gnome to test if I could do this with
it. And I could. From this one I can find Galician listed.

So, I suppose that this is a bug in the g-c-c. Anyone can reproduce this
too?

I'll try to report it in launchpad.net tomorrow, it someone can confirm it.

Regards

Re: Testing - lack of proper messages post-install

2013-09-26 Thread Lance
I noticed that this had been reported on the QA Tracker by Manuel Cuadra:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/casper/+bug/966480

But either those bug stats need to be updated by someone or a new bug filed.

Can Tim or Jeremy help out there?

Thanks in advance,

Oops, that should have said:

you should see a message saying to "remove installation media/close tray/press
enter"

The lack of the word "media" made it nonsensical ... sorry,

After that you should see a message saying to "remove installation/close
tray/press enter", so I'm sometimes also not seeing that. Without the proper
instruction one could easily think that a hard reboot is the only way to
proceed, but simply removing the installation media and pressing enter does
work.

So it has something to do with the proper message not being displayed which
creates confusion. I'm now cross-testing Lubuntu to see if it does likewise ;^)

I install directly from the live CD - this gives two options - to try
Ubuntu without installing and to install Ubuntu. I choose the second
option. Once the installation is complete a window pops up telling you
that a reboot is required. I choose to reboot. After this the screen
goes black and then the CD is ejected. After that the screen remains
black a control-alt-delete is required to restart the computer.

Sounds like the the computer is not getting the restart signal.

[Testing] Early issues

2013-09-26 Thread Ernesto Lana

Dear community members,

I'm testing the Ubuntu GNOME 13.10 OS and I will be sending information about
issues and findings.

--- Machine information ---

Model: Sony Vaio Pro Ultrabook (SVP13215PLS)
Memory: 7.7GB
Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-4200U CPU @ 1.60GHz × 4

Graphics: Intel® Haswell Mobile

OS type: 64-bit
OS: Ubuntu Gnome 13.10 in the whole disk

-

--- Found issues
1. The EFI installation does not work. UG installs normally but it does not
boot. I had to install with the bios in legacy mode.
2. When returning from suspension, the mouse pointer and touchscreen do not
work anymore.
3. When going into screensaver (super+L), the screen turns off for about 5
seconds before showing the clock.

-

I installed UG 13.10 because the 13.04 version kernel does not support many of
the hardware and features of my machine. I will continue testing and reporting
issues by this mailing list, hoping this improves the functionality of the OS.
If any of you have advice on enhancing my testing reports I'll be grateful.

Best regards,
Ernesto Lana

I've Installed from a LiveUSB

Ok, I think the problem is that the DHCP server is not giving the
computer an IP because I can do a manual ip setting and it works, I
tested the LiveUsb on a Netbook and it works with Wifi and the DHCP
gives and IP with no problems, so It might be the cable or something
like that, nothing related to the ISO, the only bug that I found was
that it doesn't prompt to restart after installation, it just reboots.

I will file that info on the test submit and thank you for helping out.

Actually, this is not correct. The Alternate ISO has the same Kernel of the
Desktop ISO. The main difference is the Alternate has NO fancy GUI
installer but rather a Text-Based Installer for special cases like LOW RAM:

http://askubuntu.com/questions/150202/difference-between-live-cd-and-alternate-cd

As I have mentioned on my previous email, Ubuntu GNOME 13.04 and 13.10 both
don't really support NON-PAE CPUs and therefore, can not be installed on a
machine with NON-PAE CPU.

Hi,

Starting from 12.04, Ubuntu Team has dropped the support for NON-PAE CPUs
from the default Kernel. Lubuntu and Xubuntu Team both maintained a NON-PAE
Kernel for 12.04 but starting from 12.10, all Ubuntu Official Flavours were
using PAE Kernel means users must have PAE CPU.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PAE

Having that said, Ubuntu GNOME 13.04 and 13.10 will require a PAE CPU :)

Thank you!

[Testing] Installation and personal introduction

2013-09-26 Thread Manuel Cuadra
Hello, I want to contribute to the Gnome Project by doing testing and
translation in any way I can, since I don't see any material related
to Translation I'm going to be doing the QA testing. I have Spare
computers to use in my office and I have about an hour or more a day
so I hope I can help as much as possible.

With that in mind also want to say that my experience in Linux is a
little mixed, I've been using it as a Server for more than 7 years and
I tried using Ubuntu since version 9 but I always get bottlenecked
because of video performance (I have a Nvidia GTX 260), usually if I
open 3 or 4 tabs with youtube videos the FPS just went down...

Ok, but now that is over, Nvidia has made better drivers and started
to contribute a little more in the Linux community so now I'm exited
and I want to be part of the change. So to no further talking about
me, I would like to ask about something in the testing area:

I'm installing Gnome Daily and when I get to the installer, it reports
that it finds a Network interface and tries to connect but I doesn't
work, if I use a stable release installer it works right away. How can
I test this things to report the bug and not sound like "Internet
doesn't work" person.

Hope to help,

Sincerely,

Manuel

Hi Phil,

May I ask you to please read this:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuGNOME/ContactUs#Mailing_List

Code of Conduct

The Ubuntu Code of Conduct governs all interaction within the Ubuntu
community. Because mailing lists form an integral part of that interaction,
it is especially important to bear the Code of Conduct in mind at all
times. Mailing list users should read the Code of Conduct in
full,
and if possible, should digitally sign a copy
.

Fundamental aspects of the Code of Conduct relevant to mailing lists
include:

   - Be considerate
   - Be respectful
   - Be collaborative
   - When you disagree, consult others
   - When you are unsure, ask for help
   - Step down considerately
   - Avoid flamewars, trolling, personal attacks, and repetitive arguments

While your intentions seem good, your attitude is not appreciated so I am
asking you kindly to watch your language :)

And, if you think something is wrong, I'd be very interested if you could
correct it or find someone who might be able to ;)

Nice quote that was not in my email. Don't ever cross quote me!

And the rest of your email deals with less than what the project is
doing. If you are dealing with releases - document as is. For people to
get involved with testing backport and up packages please split pages
and and help people into the movement of ubuntu gnome.

Ok. I will help in this work, but there is way too much internal
reference without docs that makes people feel like outsiders and scared
to come into the group. QA on this project is rubbish and obviously
handled by someone without industry experience.

Phil

Hi Phil,

"Be the change you want to see around" :D I do believe in this :)

I have built a Wiki Area from Scratch. Now, it is time for the Community to
Step in and HELP to maintain such area. Having that said, please feel free
to make the necessary changes here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuGNOME/#PPA

I am working on something very important right now and have no time for
this, sorry.

Hi all,

There is much conversation about gnome3 PPA and next etc. However the

Its not a strict dependency and will mostly work without it, however
if you are not using staging then its probably best to add gnome3
ppa to ensure you get gnome-control-center 3.8

Regarding the ppas, your message is not in the

- next for 3.10

And as Gnome 3.8 is the baseline of UG 13.10, I don't
really understand why we should add the Gnome3 ppa with
13.10. Could you please clarify?

  Thanks.
